Chapter 12 - Be Careful

Jules' pov

When I blinked my eyes open once again, the force of the bright lights made my head start to ache at once. I let out a weak cough and winced at how sore my throat felt.

"Oh, good. You're finally awake!" A voice called out from the side and almost immediately, my eyesight was being filled with the nurse who had treated me earlier.

The nurse checked my eyes for something before scribbling something down. After a little while, he discarded the clipboard and stood beside the bed.

"You know, you've just broken a record. You're the first student who had to be brought here twice in one day, on his first day of resumption." The nurse crooned with a shake of his head and I found myself grimacing at once.

I tried to sit up but my head swam a little, causing me to grit my teeth as the incident that led to this began to flood my mind.

"T- that freaking vampire!" I cried out, wishing in this very moment that I had access to my magic, then I'd have gave him a taste of his own medicine tenfolds!

The door burst open in the next moment and Taylor rushed in along with Josh and one other student trailing after him. His eyes were filled with worry as he laid a hand over my head.

"You alright, Jules?" He asked and I nodded my head in response.

"Yeah, I am." I rasped.

"How did it happen?" He asked softly and I found myself seething once again. I sat up in the next moment with Taylor's help and grind my teeth in annoyance.

"It's that vampire, that freaking psychotic vampire!"

Taylor blinked at me in confusion. "A predator?"

"Yeah, the one from our classroom." I responded flatly.

"Oh, Malachi." Taylor breathed out with a grimace and I bristled.

"Yeah, that one! Who the hell does he think he is?!" I screamed hoarsely and watched as Taylor and the nurse exchanged a glance.

"How was that possible if preys and predators weren't swimming in the same section?" Josh asked and I spluttered.

"I… I don't know, okay? But, I know what happened! He grabbed my leg and dragged me into the pool before I could scream and he held me down until water had filled up my lungs." I explained and I watched as Taylor let out a small sigh before reaching for my hand.

"At least you're okay now."

I pursed my lips after that. The nurse gave me a vial of something to drink tonight and tomorrow and I thanked him after pocketing it.

"Moving forward, try to avoid Malachi at all cost, hm?" The nurse began and I threw my hands in the air in frustration.

"I'm the victim here. I almost died in the pool! And yet, I'm being asked to avoid that psychopath? I was avoiding him before I almost got killed by him." I snapped out in response.

The nurse pursed his lips and rolled his eyes before continuing.

"I don't usually say this because I prefer not to interfere in students' businesses. But I'll say this once. Be careful, Jules. This school isn't like any regular school out there and if you want to survive it, it's best you stop looking at yourself as a victim and instead regard yourself as a survivor in a game which you don't want to get eliminated from."

"This is the student who helped carry you to the infirmary, his name is Kai." Taylor introduced, pointing at the student who had accompanied himself and Josh. Kai offered me a small smile and a handshake.

"It's nice to meet you and I hope you're feeling better now."

I felt shocked out of my skin. This is the first predator here in this school who is speaking to me like a normal person and not looking down at me because of my supernatural status. Kai was a tiger hybrid and his eyes were a beautiful, dim gold.

I accepted the handshake and breathed in his scent. He smelled of the wind on a windy day. Color flooded my cheeks at the thought of him carrying me all the way to the infirmary while I had been passed out.

How embarrassing!

"I should be after a good night's rest." I finally responded after he dropped my hand. Kai shoved his hands in his pockets and exchanged a few words with Taylor before leaving.

Taylor turned to me almost immediately. "Kai is someone you don't need to be afraid of. He's a good predator." He explained and I slowly nodded my head while wondering if there was something like a 'good predator'.

Classes was already over because of the time I spent passed out at the infirmary. Taylor had helped me grab my stuff from the changing room in the infirmary and I had changed back into my school uniform before exiting the infirmary.

We rode the elevator down to the first floor and stepped outside the large building where a bus would be waiting a few minutes walk away, ready to drive us over to our dorms.

Predators buses and dorms were separated from preys' buses and dorms, which I was really grateful about.

So far, my interactions with almost every predators has been horrible.

We all got into the bus and I took the window seat with Taylor seated between Josh and I. As I glanced outside the window, I noticed a bunch of luxurious cars with drivers standing beside the opened back seats of those cars.

I glanced towards Taylor in confusion. "Students are allowed to bring their cars and drivers to school? That's allowed on school grounds?" I inquired and Taylor chuckled.

"There's a whole lot of things you aren't aware of, Jules. Of course, not every students are allowed to do that, but the group of special students are allowed to bring their cars and drivers into school grounds."

"Wow." I breathed out as I glanced outside again.

"How do you become a special student though? Does that have anything to do with your academic performances?" I asked and Josh breathed out a laugh this time before responding.

"Of course not. A lot of things in this school doesn't depend on academic performances. One of the easiest ways to be classified as a special student is if your parent or guardian is a sponsor of the school… amongst other things."

As the bus began to move, I let my head fall against the cushion behind it, and then I let my mind wander around.

This school is certainly something.
