it is finally Monday
I thought to myself as the clock struck 4:30 and i stared at the ceiling thinking if it is not too late to back down. Getting off the bed, i prelareds for my first day, dressing in my best 80s attire - a fitted blazer with shoulder pads, a white blouse and a pencils skirt. I ransacked Alexa's wardrobe thinking i would find something Alexandra Winfred of Elite-ex would like only to find the 80s attire. She must have had them when she was working as a writer. After a delicious and quick breakfast, i hailed a taxi qnd arrived at the company, my heart racing with anticipation.
As i stepped out of the taxi, my high heels clinking on the pavement, i strolled into the building, my head held high. The reception area felt silent as i walked in, eyes fixed on me with a mix of surprise, curiosity and anger.
"Can i help you?" The receptionist asked, her tone icy
"I'm here to see Reg Thompson" i announced, my voice firm
(Who is she? Is she one of his mistress, she is still so young or maybe my age mate) i read the receptionist mind as she scan through the computer with a mouse. "Do you have an appointment?" The receptionist asked, her eyes not leaving the screen.
"Hmmm? Ah that is a problem, i wasn't given an appointment, he just said i should come to get my job today"
The receptionist eyes widened with disbelief as she stared at the screen which has Alexa name as a Share liaison of the company. "Am so sorry Miss smith, welcome, you are expected, please proceed to the elevator, your office is on the 5th floor" the receptionist said apologetically yesterday to the elevator on the left.
"Right now, Mr Thompson is in a meeting"
"Thank you" i said as moved closer to the elevator my heels clinking on the tiled floor. As i move through, i could hear small whispers and people thinking and curious of who i was. I felt little bit intimated as i press the elevator button. As i entered the elevator, i felt a sense of determination wash over me.i was ready to face whatever lay ahead, honoring my fathers legacy and making a name for myself in the process.
As i stepped into the office,i was taken aback by the sleek, luxirious decor. The room was filled with natural light pouring in through the windows, and the dark wood furniture seem to gleam in the sunlight. My new office, complete with a plush chair and a sprawling desk, felt like a haven.
Just as i was settling in, Reg poked his head in the door. "Alex ,great, you are all settled. Now, let's get you up to speed. We have a meeting in the conference room. It's about the Johnson's account"
I followed him down the hall, my heart racing with anticipation. The conference room was a large rectangular space, with a long, polished table and leather chairs. The walls were adorned with sleek, silver frames holding prints of the company's logo.
As we entered, the room fell silent. A dozen pairs of eyes fixed on me, some friendly, others cold. I recognized a few faces from Alexa's memories from her father's stories but most were new to me.
At the head of the table, a tall impossible figure with a chiseled jawline and piercing blue eyes gazed at me with a calculating intensity. This was Victor Andrews, the Chairman, and my father's Alexa's father long time rival. He is the father of the deceased who wanted me, i mean Alexa go to prison by all means. Come to think of it, that memory of how she died hasn't single in yet.
"Ah, Alex, welcome" victor said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "We were just discussing the Johnson's account, i don't know if you are familiar with that name, care to chip in?"
All eyes turned to me, and i felt a surge of adrenaline. I took a deep breath, my voice steady and confident. "Well, from what have read and understand, the Johnson's account is one of this company's largest client. I believe we need to focus on buliding a stronger relationship with them, perhaps by offering additional services or incentives"
The room fell silent again, and i could feel the weight of their gaze. Victors eyes narrowed, his expression skeptical. "Go on" he said, his tone dripping with condescension.
i took a guilp of my own saliva and continued. "I think we should also consider expanding our marketing efforts to reach a wider audience" i said, trying to sound confident and professional.
Victor raised an eyebrow "And how do you propose we do that, Alex?, we are already stretching our budget thin".
I hesitated for a moment, but Reg spoiled in support. "Actually, Alex has a point. We have been focusing too much on traditional marketing methods. Maybe it's time to explain some new strategies"
The room erupted into a lively discussion, with some executives agreeing Reg and others siding with victor. I listen intently, taking mental notes and trying to absorb more information as possible. I tried to listen to victor's mind as he was quiet but the cacophony of discussions wouldn't allow me to concentrate.
As the meeting drew to a close, Victor turned to me with a cold smile. "Well, Alex, it's been....enlightening to hear your thought. But let's get one thing straight, this is a cutthroat business and sentimental won't get you far. You are either with us, or you're against us".
i felt a shiver run down my spine, but i refuse to back down. "I understand, Mr Andrew. But i believe my father's legacy deserves respect and i am here to make sure his visions lives on"
The room fell silent again, and i could feel the tension building up. But Reg stood up, a hint of smile on his face. "Well, i think that's enough for today. Alex, welcome to the team, let's get to work."
As the meeting adjourned and the executives filed out of the room, i felt a sense of relief wash over me. I knew it wouldnt be easy, but i was ready to fight for her father's legacy and her own place in the company.
As the room emptied, Victor and James, one of the rivals and also an executive lingered, their faces twisted in disgust.
"Can you believe it?" James spat, his voice low and venomous."Reg actually thinks she is worthy of sitting at the table with us"
Victor's eyes blazed with hatred. "Tbat little witch is responsible for my Jane's death. I will never forgive her for that'
James expression turned sympathetic."i know, victor. i know how much you are hurting, but we need to focus on the bigger picture here. We can't let her ruin everything we worked for"
victor's face turned red with rage. "I dont care about the company!, i care about making her pay for what she's done!"
James placed a calming hand on victor's shoulder. "I understand, but we need to be strategic here. We can't let our emotions oud our judgement".
Victor took a deep breath, his eyes narrowing. "You are right. Let's get rid of her, James. By any means necessary"
James became puzzled."but how?"
Victor smiled, a cold, calculatimg smile. "I am already working on it, James. Trust me, she won't last long aroung here"
The two men exchanged a knowing glance, their animosity towards Alexa palpable in the air.
