Chapter 30 - Missing Home

I sat on the massive gate of the underground city, carrying my bag and accompanied by Second Sister. A large slope had formed behind the entrance of the underground city, and for the first time, I noticed grass growing on the gate.

Second Sister remained quiet, her bright white eyes fixated on a specific direction in the southeast. Occasionally, she emitted whimpering sounds, "Wu~~~ Wu~~~~~"

"Are you calling for your family?" I asked her, but she didn't respond, still staring intensely in that direction. I touched her arm gently, "I can't reach mine either..." I didn't even know which way to look. "By the way, I have some food, would you like some?"

I took out my bag; earlier, when I went to fetch Second Sister from Edmund, he was carefully extracting seeds from apples, performing a delicate operation resembling surgery. It was nothing like us, who would simply throw apple cores into the trash after eating. He placed the seeds into a green container similar to the one he used for sunflower seeds, mentioning that he would transfer them to a cultivation chamber. Then, I saw him eyeing the remaining apple core, salivating. As we turned away, I heard the crunching sound of him biting into the apple. Edmund seemed more like a lab rat.

I retrieved a can of yogurt from my bag and opened it for Second Sister, saying, "You need some nutrition now."

She sniffed it with a disgusted expression.

"Hey! This is way more expensive than milk, you know? And it's highly nutritious! Look, it's high in calcium!"

Second Sister still looked repulsed, as if I had given her something spoiled.

"Well, how about this?" I pulled out a ham sausage, opened it, and she immediately grabbed it and started eating. Junk food always seemed to be the most delicious.

"Princess, it's getting cold tonight," Celeste's voice came from below the gate.

"I want to go for a walk alone.Asna.said"

I looked down; it was Asna.

"Alright, don't go too far, I'll have Qianli keep an eye on you." Celeste watched her silently for a moment, sighed lightly, and turned to enter Noah City.

Who is Shepard? I've heard his name twice, but it seems like... I've never seen him. This Shepard is quite mysterious.

Asna walked out alone, under the serene moonlight. She then sat on a nearby cannon, the moonlight tonight was beautiful and clear. Silver moonlight fell on her, coloring her golden hair with the moon's hue.

She sat there quietly, tilting her face up, gazing towards the beautiful Silvermoon City in the distant azure sky.The sparse grass swayed gently in the night breeze, dancing together with the hem of her skirt. She resembled a moonlight princess, quietly gazing into the distance.

I jumped down directly from the two-meter-high gate, a height that wasn't much for me. I walked over to Asna, lifted my face to glance at Silvermoon City, and lowered my gaze to Asna's serene and beautiful face. "Do you like Silvermoon City?"

Asna's expression softened even more, and the reflection of the silver moon shone in her beautiful and clear eyes. "Tomorrow, it's going to leave."

"What?" Great! I felt like celebrating with fireworks. However, there was still some confusion in my heart. "Leave? Isn't it fixed?"

Asna turned to me with a smile, looking at my puzzled face. "Right, you've lost your memory..." She tilted her face again to gaze at Silvermoon City. "Silvermoon City divides this world into twelve regions. Every month, it flies over one of the regions, guarding us and providing assistance."

Guarding you?! No way! It looks more like surveillance!

If it weren't for Edmund instructing me not to talk about Edmond, I really wanted to tell her what kind of person Edmond was. But... Edmond played his role too well. Even with Edmund's high intelligence, he wouldn't believe what I said. If it weren't for Emery witnessing it with her own eyes, she wouldn't have thought that Edmond could be someone else.

Asna's gaze was gentle and nostalgic. I think Edmond must be like an idol in her heart. Many girls in our class are obsessed with idols, and no one wants someone to ruin the image of their idol in their hearts. Even if the idol's surface presents a false image, after various revelations by paparazzi, they still hold their heads and say, "I don't believe it, I don't believe it, I just don't believe it!"

Asna is so pure and kind, and she took me in. I didn't have the heart to make her sad. Anyway, Edmond also said he wasn't interested in Asna. This parting is just for a year. Let Edmond's beautiful image continue to stay in Asna's heart.

I opened my bag, took out a lunchbox, and placed it in front of her. "Eat, it's watermelon." This was the last fruit in my bag."What?!" She finally withdrew her gaze from Silvermoon City, looking surprised at the watermelon in the box. Excitedly, she immediately held it up, "Watermelon! Seeds!"

I knew she was going to bring up the topic of seeds again. I sat beside her and directly picked up a neatly cut piece of watermelon. "Eat, it's seedless watermelon. I can't carry a whole watermelon, right?"

"Seedless..." Asna's face turned disappointed. However, she seemed to remember something and looked at me. "What about its genes?"

Genes?! Do I have to discuss such profound topics while eating a watermelon?

"Genes... Genes..." Who knows! I only have basic middle school education, studying subjects like mathematics and physics. Fields like genetic engineering should be as distant to me as the universe. Even if I go to college, I probably wouldn't choose subjects like genetic engineering.

"Hey, forget about it! Just eat!" I grabbed a piece and stuffed it into her mouth. She paused for a moment, and the next moment, she stood up excitedly. "It's so delicious! I've never eaten watermelon before!" She seemed unable to contain her excitement, momentarily losing her princess demeanor. Finally, I found the appearance of a girl of the same age in her. She excitedly covered her mouth, "I only knew about watermelons from my grandfather. Although many things are gone now, we remember them so that we can identify them when we find the seeds. After the divine punishment, many lands couldn't grow anything, and watermelons... have become extinct in the nearby areas too."

Asna sighed lightly as she sat back down. From her words, I heard about the divine punishment.

"Just because there are none nearby doesn't mean there aren't any in other places. Maybe there are in farther areas. Otherwise, where did mine come from?" I took out my own watermelon, well aware that my watermelon came from another world.

"There isn't enough energy..." Asna sighed and shook her head, looking at me. "Do you remember the radiation circles?"

I shook my head in confusion. No need to act; I genuinely didn't know.

She smiled and bent down to pick up a stone, drawing a circle on the ground. "Look, this is a radiation circle. The center..." she pointed at a point in the center of the circle with the stone, "has the strongest radiation. Then, from the center as the point, the radiation weakens as it extends outward until there's none." She pointed to the edge of the circle.

She looked around us. "Our surroundings are filled with these radiation circles. This place is where they are separated, and it's the only ecological gap where survival is possible." She bent down again and drew several circles next to that one circle, which intersected, separated, or touched, like a math teacher giving us a lesson.

In the positions where they intersected or separated, a small area was formed. This area, being outside each radiation circle, had become a survivable ecological zone. In the other areas around it, they were covered by radiation. They were indeed trapped here!
