However, what she said was the truth.
I had encountered ability users, not ones like Amanda, who was a healer, but those with genuine combat abilities. The ability of the Corrupt Ghost Tribe I encountered was still haunting me. If it weren't for Helle, I would have been turned into a hornet's nest.
I looked again at Bernice and the others. Clearly, they were different from Amanda. They were dressed in military uniforms. Dawn's words revealed a message: if you didn't have abilities, you couldn't join their so-called DR. Judging from this, DR was likely the name of a combat team, and this combat team only accepted those with abilities. Therefore, Bernice, Lindsay, and this Dawn were undoubtedly combat ability users!
Oh, and there was Farley...
"Don't become a burden to us." Suddenly, Bernice said coldly, but her gaze remained fixed forward. Her words undoubtedly dealt a severe blow to me, making me feel even more useless in front of these ability users. I could only be their burden.
A trace of unwillingness welled up in my heart.
"But how do you explain bringing back the escape pod?" Lindsay's voice became deep, like a steady contralto, and her demeanor carried a certain mature elegance. "No one can escape from Silvermoon City's hands and steal an escape pod. That must be luck!" Dawn immediately retorted, her chest bouncing, breasts jiggling, looking at Lindsay with disbelief.
Lindsay lowered her face to look at her, her gaze like that of someone looking at an immature little girl.
"The chance of having the luck to steal something from Silvermoon City is zero." Bernice's snowy eyes finally turned to my face. I noticed that her gaze moved very slowly, as if in slow motion. However, when she stared straight at you, there was an icy chill that could make you feel cold from head to toe.
"Well, so even though she's not an ability user, it doesn't mean she doesn't have other abilities that regular people don't have." Lindsay nodded decisively, crossing her arms.
"But to join our DR, we need to see if she has that ability." Amanda looked at everyone, and everyone nodded in agreement. It seemed like they were having a small discussion about whether I could join their team.
"I agree!" Farley suddenly raised her hand and shouted loudly.
Dawn stuck her tongue out at her. "Eh, you've been bribed by her apples~~~"
Celeste chuckled, stroked Dawn's head, and also reached out to pat Farley's head. The scene suddenly became warm. Celeste didn't seem like their leader; she seemed more like their guardian. I liked this feeling, even though I didn't know if I could join, but this team felt like a family."I disagree!" Suddenly, Emery was bouncing and jumping behind Lindsay, urgently shouting, "Mom! Don't turn my wife into that kind of person!"
Instantly, Celeste raised an eyebrow, and in an instant, the surrounding onlookers quickly backed away, giving them a wide berth.
Celeste looked at Emery with raised eyebrows, "Emery, do you think your mom is not good?"
Emery completely lost his earlier arrogance, shrunk his neck, pointing with trembling fingers, "So fierce... what's good about it..."
"Emery! Emery!" Emery's brothers crowded around him, hooking their fingers around his neck, "Calm down! Don't go against Celeste! We'll die a miserable death. Listen to your mom, let your wife go for the test, she might not even get into DR; she's not an ability user."
"Yeah!" Emery became cheerful again, grinning at me, "Don't worry, wife, you won't get into DR."
"..." I found myself wanting to hit him even more. Was it okay for me to be utterly useless?! As the child of a veteran, it was absolutely not allowed to be inactive! I also wanted to join everyone, protect Noah City because Noah City was my home now!
"Yvette, the test for joining our DR will be conducted later." Celeste's tone suddenly became serious. I became somewhat excited. Regardless of the outcome, I was very grateful to Celeste for giving me this opportunity.
"Thank you, Celeste!" I looked at her gratefully.
She smiled at me, "I trust my instincts; you will definitely be able to join our DR!" Celeste patted my shoulder heavily, "Go and get your things."
"Yes!" I subconsciously stood upright, saluting like a soldier. She smiled, "See you later." With that, she led her squad and passed by me.
Suddenly, Lindsay stood in front of me, slapped a piece of paper onto my chest with a loud "smack," and looked down at me with a cool expression, "I don't care who you are. No matter which department you end up in, stay away from the men on this list. To avoid future complications, because they're all my men!" She warned me with a stern look, glared at me harshly, and left.
Although Lindsay's expression was a bit fierce, I knew she was a good person because she had just given me a fair evaluation.
I stiffly took the paper off, and it turned out to be a long list! A total of... fourteen!
Lindsay's meaning was that these fourteen guys on the list were all her men?!
My goodness, fourteen men...I subconsciously read out the name of the first guy on the list: Kerry White!
"Hey, did you call me? Yvette?" Suddenly, a handsome guy who had grabbed Emery looked at me with some joy, "You know my name?" He even raised his eyebrows at Emery, "Your wife knows my name~"
Emery's face immediately darkened, he wrinkled his face, staring at me intensely, "How can you know the names of other men besides your husband?"
Come on, I know Edmund's name as well! Oh right, they don't consider Edmund a man.
I rolled my eyes at Emery, picked up the list, "Lindsay warned me, saying all the guys on this list are her men..."
Suddenly, Kerry's face turned pale and then exploded into a deep purple. Without saying a word, he covered his face, turned and ran away. Accompanying his escape, his brothers burst into merciless laughter:
"Hahaha—hahaha—"
I continued to look at the list. It was surprising for me, and I didn't think about it in an adult way. I felt these were probably the people Lindsay was interested in.
"So many... why isn't Edmund on the list? Edmund is not bad-looking..." Even though I didn't know the people here, I felt Lindsay's taste shouldn't be bad.
"I find him annoying!" Suddenly, Lindsay's voice appeared again, startling me. I didn't know when she came back. Farley was still perched on her neck, nodding, looking disdainful, "Edmund looks like a girl, not attractive at all."
I looked at her in surprise, "You also know 'attractive'?"
"Yeah." Farley made a mature look, "Just have no thoughts about it."
Phew... I was relieved. At least, she didn't understand.
Lindsay swung her short hair coolly, "Being with Edmund is like being with a girl. Ugh~" She even made an unbearable gesture, then continued walking while carrying Farley.
"Wife!" Emery ran back to me again, sneakily glancing at my list, grumbling, "How come I'm not on it?" He also combed his soft reddish-brown short hair, trying to look cool.
I rolled my eyes in exasperation and left his side.
"Wife! Why did you leave again?" He caught up again, like a sticky piece of plaster, "I was wrong, I was wrong. You're supposed to get your things over here." He grabbed the back of my neck and tried to steer me in another direction, but I pushed him away, annoyed, "Don't touch me!" I really couldn't stand people touching me.
He still wore that playful smile.
