Chapter 20 - Renaming

Asna's eyes widened in surprise, and she looked up at me, prompting me to furrow my brows as well.

"They... they must be here to find the escape pods!" Edmund exclaimed, sticking his head out. "The escape pods are the technology of their Silvermoon City, and they contain energy blocks."

"So they're not here for Yvette?" Princess Asna inquired.

Edmund blinked, his expression hesitant, unable to determine.

"They probably won't be," Instructor Celeste said confidently, looking at me. "Yvette, we heard what you said earlier. Since Silvermoon City has abandoned you, they won't come looking for you."

I felt a bit relieved.

"But just in case, it's better for you to disguise yourself," Instructor Celeste added. "You said earlier that the people from Silvermoon City didn't realize you were a girl. How is that possible?" She looked at my face with confusion. "Your appearance is still quite recognizable."

Princess Asna also looked puzzled, and Edmund, by their side, stared at me for a while, then shyly turned away, taking out a notebook to calculate.

I touched my face and found that the mud on it was gone. "My face was covered in mud before, and my throat felt like it was burned. The voice that came out was like a boy's." Then I looked at the oversized school uniform on me; it was the uniform that protected me.

"That's how it is. Do they know your name?" Instructor Celeste asked again.

I nodded. "They do."

She looked at Asna. "Princess, let's have Yvette change her clothes. Yvette," she looked at me again, "you'll be called... Cora from now on."

Cora?! I was stunned.

She noticed my hesitation. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," I shook my head.

She smiled. "Don't be too nervous. They're probably here for the escape pods. If they ask your name, just say Cora. However, we need to change your clothes now to make you look more like a girl." Instructor Celeste smiled at me, her beautiful face radiating a touch of brightness.

"Ah! Ah!" Suddenly, Flying Corpse Monster cried out anxiously, her snowy eyes looking in the distant direction.

"Flying Corpse Monster's senses are more sensitive than ours humans. She must have sensed danger!" Edmund exclaimed excitedly, almost dancing with joy.Flying Corpse Monster's every change excited him, a trait of a scientist.

"Princess, you go back first and prepare to welcome the people from Silvermoon City!" Instructor Celeste said respectfully.

Asna nodded, still looking at me with some concern. She instructed Instructor Celeste, "Take care of Yvette." After that, she walked back inside.

Celeste looked at me from a distance. "Yvette, hurry, let's go back." She raised her eyes to Flying Corpse Monster behind me, her eyebrows furrowing.

I turned around to reassure Flying Corpse Monster, "Don't be afraid. With me here, you can come with me." Flying Corpse Monster calmed down, lowering her face to look at me. I began walking forward, and she followed me.

"She really listens to you!" Edmund exclaimed excitedly. I looked at them and asked, "Can she be brought inside?"

Instructor Celeste's expression tightened, but Edmund was thrilled, "If she can listen to you, no problem! We can let her hide with the escape pods! This is great! We can keep her!"

I immediately gave him a cold, guarded look, determined not to let him use my Flying Corpse Monster for experiments. Edmund's expression tightened, he quickly turned away, and his ears started turning red again.

Flying Corpse Monster only stared at me, following closely behind as we entered the underground city. Edmund opened a side door, "Go this way! The square is crowded, and she might startle someone. Let's avoid her causing harm."

I nodded. Flying Corpse Monster now only trusted me, and between us, a unique trust had formed due to the life-and-death dependence. I couldn't risk letting her harm anyone.

Flying Corpse Monster and I entered the side door. The passage inside was spacious, and Edmund led the way. Flying Corpse Monster didn't seem to reject him either. I casually asked, "Did you treat her wounds?"

"Yes," Edmund walked excitedly while observing Flying Corpse Monster. "We injected her with a tranquilizer, so I could get close to her. It's my first time being so close to a conscious Flying Corpse Monster, Yvette, you're truly amazing!"

"It's because you didn't see them as human beings," I coldly looked at him and said.

Edmund stopped in his tracks, staring at me in a daze. I held Flying Corpse Monster's arm and walked past him, looking at Flying Corpse Monster, "How about I call you Second Sister? My Second Sister used to protect me a lot when we were kids, often taking beatings for me..."Flying Corpse Monster glanced at me, and I didn't know if she understood. I held her hand and started calling her Second Sister while walking forward.

Edmund followed, staying close to my side, still cautious of Flying Corpse Monster. As he walked, he slowly took out his notebook and started calculating again, but he didn't speak.

An exit appeared ahead, and the door of the exit was round and thick, like a watertight door on a battleship. Edmund hurriedly approached, pressed a button beside it, and the door rumbled open. Inside was a chamber, and when the door opened, the lights in the entire chamber turned on. It was filled with instruments, and thick data cables crawled across the floor like a spider's web.

In the center of these instruments, the escape pod I had used the night before was dismantled and unrecognizable!

"Flying Corpse Monster's claws are really powerful, able to penetrate the escape pod," Edmund exclaimed as he entered, picking up a shell from the ground casually, with a hole in it. "This is a miraculous evolutionary phenomenon."

Second Sister followed me inside, and Edmund touched the dismantled escape pod, his expression resembling someone caressing a beloved girl. "You hid so many precious things. No wonder they came looking for you."

"What things?" I asked casually, and Second Sister stood quietly by my side, gazing ahead.

Edmund, already excited without waiting for my answer, paced excitedly in front of the escape pod. "There's Silvermoon City's technological information inside, very valuable! I can decipher them and use them in Noah City! More importantly!" Edmund paused, his eyes shining with excitement. "There's also precious blue crystal energy! Since you've lost your memory, let me tell you—blue crystal energy can absorb solar energy, extend its usage time, and make vehicles travel farther, exploring more distant places!"

Exploring more distant places? What's going on? Why use the word "explore"? Are they trapped here? Aren't they from this planet? So, do they want to explore other places? But they don't seem like extraterrestrials with the ability to travel through the stars, as they value an escape pod so much.

Could it be that something happened in this world? It trapped humans in certain areas, preventing them from going elsewhere? Oh right, how could I forget? It's radiation. It must be radiation surrounding them, or it isolates them from others.

I still couldn't quite understand, but I didn't plan to rush with questions. Because I'm going to live here, and these questions are also my exploration goals. I will gradually find the answers.

He looked at me, then glanced cautiously at Second Sister. "She can only stay here temporarily. There are many people outside, and she might harm them."

I nodded, looking at Flying Corpse Monster and gently patting her arm. "It's safer here. You can hide for a while."
