The three kept standing there in silence for another minute, and it was clear that the siren was not going to stop anytime soon. Like an obnoxious and overpowered alarm, it kept blasting through the night, definitely waking up everyone who had gone to bed by now, unless they're absurdly heavy sleepers or deaf.
"What's happening?!" Jian shouted amidst the loud noise.
Christo ran toward the window and leaned outside, looking at the streets. But aside from the small crowd of panicking students and workers, he didn't see anything noticeable or a possible cause for the siren.
"Looking at how the siren's been ringing for so long, it doesn't seem like someone turned it on by accident," Christo remarked as he pulled back his head.
"What do we do?" Drai asked, still in full alert mode. Having gone through the jungle venture, he was used to shifting his gears in no time.
