Chapter 48 - INSULT

Kove looked at Mosey through the corner of his eye for a few seconds and made a mental note that the burly man was probably thinking the same thing he was.

He furrowed his eyebrows and then took his attention to Centshuu, who he gave a skeptical gaze.

He wondered if what Centshuu was about to discuss in this approaching meeting was going to answer the questions he had asked himself, Mosey, and Shieve mere minutes before all of the shenanigans at the bar took place.

Kove, wanting answers right that moment but in the end accepting that he had to wait for when it was time, grunted and finally focused on Bell.

/"Mister Vox,"\ Bell said calmly.

With a face depicting his annoyance, Vox, who had helped all his friends get up and all of them slouching next to him, looked at her.

Any other woman would have been scared of how threatening Vox looked, but Bell was different.

She knew she had the backing of every individual in the Velvet Serpent, and most especially, she knew she had the backing of her new business partner, Centshuu whose squad of ruffians had already proven themselves to be more than a match for Vox and his friends.

She knew that Centshuu, being the gentleman that he was, would step in to protect her if she ever needed it, so she spoke without worry.

/"I would never doubt the words told to me by my girls because they have and will never lie to me. However, because of how much patronage you've shown me and The Velvet Serpent over the years, I feel as though I owe you the discretion of asking if what they said is true or not"\ she said.

Vox looked down at the mess all over the floor.

/"As you can see from the evidence all over the floor, that little punk attacked me with—"\ Vox said but Bell quickly cut him off.

/"Pardon my rudeness but I could care less about what transpired between yourself and Centshuu's little pup. What I want to know is if the tale of you laying a hand on my Makieth and your friend yelling at Kenser is true?"\ Bell asked and Vox went still for a moment.

He looked at the three women in front of him then he looked at the other guests and thought about how many witnesses had seen him do exactly what Bell was accusing him of.

He cleared his throat and said /"Well, things do happen in the heat of the—"\

/"Sorry to cut you off again, Mister Vox, but that's all I needed to hear. If you don't mind, you and your friends should please escort yourself out of the premises. You are no longer welcome here"\ Bell instructed and Vox frowned.

He couldn't believe that she could say something like that to him of all people. How ungrateful of the woman whose business he'd spent so much to patronize.

Vox wanted to move closer to Bell, so he could explain things from his perspective and maybe change her mind. However, Bell swiftly flickered her eyes to his hands which had wanted to reach out to her and her blazing gaze became the only warning he needed to realize the mistake he was about to make.

With immediate effect, the taller and muscular man stopped what he was about to do, continuing to anchor his feet in their current spot and keeping his hands to himself.

He did a quick scan around the perimeter and saw the warning glares he got from the other guests and service girls which to anyone with a semblance of understanding was their way of telling him that he should never try anything like that ever again.

/"Madam Bell, you can't do this. Don't you know who I am?"\ Vox asked, placing his hand on his chest to give more emphasis.

/"Clearly I do or else I wouldn't have addressed you by your name or added any honorifics, Mister Vox. Do you want me to call the name of your associates as well just to prove that I know exactly who I'm speaking to?"\ Bell responded, her demeanor and tone both cold as ice.

/"Since you know who we are then this is a ridiculous response you're having to what happened. Not only that, this is an insult to how much I've spent in this fucking place. You can't just kick me out like this! No matter what, you have to reconsider your decision and you have to do that right now. We should all just go back like none of this ever happened"\ Vox commanded.

Suddenly, Bell who was beginning to lose patience stepped one foot closer, surprising the now evicted taller and muscular man.

/"Mister Vox, are you telling me what I can and cannot do in my establishment?"\

/"What?"\ Vox replied, acting and sounding surprised by the question.

Bell took yet another step closer.

/"I said, are you trying to tell me how to operate in my place of business?"\

Vox blinked rapidly and Bell took another step closer than stopped.

/"I asked in case I misheard or maybe even misunderstood what you said because it sounded to me like you were trying to tell me how to behave in my own home. Listen carefully, Mister Vox. You might be able to swing your dick back and forth while out there in the world, but you should have it in mind that as long as you're within these walls, I am on top. You speak of insults but if I remember correctly, you are the one who insulted me first"\ Bell said and Vox creased his forehead.

/"Insult you? When did I do that?"\ he asked.

Bell looked at Makieth then at Vox and replied /"Did you forget what you said to Makieth about me and my business partners or has your little fight wiped your memory already?"\
