'Deactivate System merging,' Xavier ordered mentally. It was getting increasingly frustrating as he repeated the same command, but the system seemed to be toying with him, responding with nothing but error messages.
He was supposed to be dead; he vividly remembered the moment his life slipped away, the cold grasp of darkness taking hold. But now, he was in a strange limbo, caught between life and death, between control and chaos. His mind was a swirl of confusion and fragments of memory. He couldn't piece together what had happened after he died.
'Let me out!' he shouted mentally, his desperation growing. The void of silence that followed his command was maddening.
