Chapter 3 - Magic Perception

Since obtaining the book "Fundamentals of Magic," Morlanxiu had immersed himself in the practice of magic, neglecting food and sleep. From the book, Morlanxiu learned many rumors about magic.

On the Holy Spirit Continent, the levels of magicians are roughly divided into nine grades. Among them, levels one, two, and three are known as junior magicians (low-level magicians); levels four, five, and six are known as intermediate magicians; and levels seven, eight, and nine are known as advanced magicians. Among them, advanced magicians are also called grand magicians, and the status of a grand magician is no less prestigious than that of the nobles in the royal city.

In the royal city, many nobles are proud to be able to associate with a grand magician. This is because the number of grand magicians in the kingdom is far lower than the number of nobles. This is not only the case in the Kingdom of Carlisle but also in any kingdom or empire on the continent.

And a level nine magician is called an archmage. In the entire Kingdom of Carlisle, there are only five living archmages recorded in the history books, among which the grand priest in the palace is one of them.

As for the saintly archmage, it is just a legendary existence. Although there are some legends about saintly archmages recorded in the historical annals of the Kingdom's Magician Guild, they are considered unattainable by ordinary people. In the history of the entire Kingdom of Carlisle, it is said that there are only two saintly archmages, but no one has ever seen their true faces, nor does anyone know where they are. All they left behind in the kingdom are just two names.

To become a true magician, one must possess two essential conditions.

First, one must have a strong perception of elements, so as to be able to sense the elemental forces existing in nature.

Second, one must have a strong spiritual power. The stronger the spiritual power, the more magic one can absorb and store, and the more accurate the control of magic will be.

...

"Morlanxiu!!" Mode stood outside his son's room, shouting Morlanxiu's name.

It had been a month since the mage had visited the village, and during this month, Morlanxiu had never stopped practicing magic. Apart from the necessary training, he had hardly left his room, and even his meals were brought to him by Mode.

"What's wrong, Father?" Morlanxiu opened the door, poking his head out, looking puzzled.

"Morlanxiu, becoming a magician is not easy. Among the dozen or so villages near our village, we have never heard of any child becoming a magician. How about you go to Uncle Mora's today to continue practicing hunting skills?" Mode also hoped that his son could become a magician, but that was too far-fetched, and hunting skills were the foundation of a hunter's family in the mountains.

If his son didn't become a magician in the end and wasn't proficient in hunting skills, that would be troublesome. In that case, it might be difficult for him to even marry a wife.

"Okay, Father." Morlanxiu nodded readily and then closed the door to his room.

"Morlanxiu, you're not angry, are you?" Mode's eyebrows furrowed.

"Father, why would I be angry? It's been a month since I went to Uncle Mora's for training, and I'm itching to go." Morlanxiu quickly put on his animal skin clothes in the room and then opened the door again, smiling.

Mode breathed a sigh of relief. He didn't want Morlanxiu to practice hunting skills out of spite.

Morlanxiu had completely memorized the basics of magic from the book. So now he didn't need to stay hidden in his room reading books. Even when practicing hunting skills, he could still be close to nature.

During the daytime, Morlanxiu's figure would appear in Uncle Mora's training ground. And at night, Morlanxiu would come to the edge of the village's woods alone, feeling the majestic elements between heaven and earth, even though he couldn't feel anything now.

The book said that the stronger a person's perception, the more elemental forces they could sense, and the faster they could practice magic. While a person's perception usually remains unchanged throughout their life, spiritual power slowly increases as their own magical power grows. The most important thing for a magician is spiritual power, which determines the magician's ultimate achievement.

If a person's spiritual power is low, even if their perception is strong, they cannot become a powerful magician. In simple terms, perception affects the speed of absorbing elements, and spiritual power affects the amount of magic stored.

Morlanxiu sat quietly on the grass, breathing slowly, trying hard to feel the mysteries of nature. This was something he had to do every night, even if it was windy or raining.

The first step to becoming a magician is to truly sense the elemental forces of nature.

In a blink of an eye, three months had passed. Morlanxiu's perception had not made significant progress, but he still persisted in practicing and was not disappointed or discouraged at all. On this night, Morlanxiu sat as usual on the grass outside the village, closed his eyes, and thought about the steps to sense the elements.

Suddenly, he felt as if something had touched his fingers, very lightly, but Morlanxiu, who was highly concentrated, still felt it. He quickly opened his eyes, but saw nothing.

"Is it an illusion?" Morlanxiu closed his eyes again, entering the same state as before.

This time, Morlanxiu felt the sensation of something like wind playing between his hands more clearly. Yes, it was a windy feeling, very active wind.

Morlanxiu knew very well that there was no wind at all tonight. And what he felt between his hands seemed to be the elemental force mentioned in the "Fundamentals of Magic."

"After four months of practice, is there finally progress?" Morlanxiu's mood was cheerful, and he did not stop communicating with those elements.

Morlanxiu still closed his eyes, trying to calm his emotions. Those wonderful elements were dancing joyfully between his fingertips.

When one truly senses magical elements, one must communicate with them and then absorb them, transforming them into one's own stored magic.

Morlanxiu recalled what the book had said and began to experiment slowly with communicating with the magical elements. In fact, this kind of communication was just a familiarization process. Magical elements have no life and cannot communicate with humans. But humans can familiarize themselves with them and then absorb them.

After a whole night of trying, Morlanxiu failed to absorb even a bit of elemental force. But he was not discouraged at all. After all, he could already sense them, which was a great progress.

In the morning, when Morlanxiu returned home, Mode sighed softly. If he could find a magician to teach Morlanxiu, maybe his precious son wouldn't have to work so hard. But where could they find the money to hire a magician? Besides, magicians were not easy to find.

"Morlanxiu, any progress?" Mode tried to show an expectant

expression and asked. Every morning, he would ask the same question.

Morlanxiu's eyes flickered slightly. It was useless to tell his father the news now. His father didn't know what elemental forces were. He only knew that magicians could release fireballs, but he didn't have any magic power now, let alone releasing fireballs. So he decided not to tell his father for now.

"Not yet," Morlanxiu walked to the table and sat down, picking up the bowl of porridge prepared for him and started to drink.

"Morlanxiu, my son, you will succeed," Mode patted his son's shoulder, saying firmly.

Actually, in his heart, he felt sorry for Morlanxiu's hard training every day. He even thought about letting Morlanxiu give up magic, but every time he saw his son's passionate eyes for magic, he couldn't say the words to let Morlanxiu give up practicing magic.

"I will succeed, Father," Morlanxiu nodded his head, his voice equally firm.
