Chapter 5 - The Retreat of the Magic Beasts

*Snap!*

Fresh blood gushed wildly from Mochal's severed arm. The Windblade Wolf, with a mouthful of Mochal's arm, continued to howl crazily, then opened its mouth again and bit towards Mochal's throat.

Mochal's previous attack had triggered its ferocity. Although Mochal had exerted all his strength, his hunting knife didn't cause much damage to the Windblade Wolf. The toughness of the Windblade Wolf's skin and flesh far exceeded that of ordinary wild animals.

"Mochal..." The villagers were filled with anger, but they were powerless. If they rushed forward now, the Windblade Wolf might release its Windblade Magic, causing more deaths and unable to save Mochal.

Mochal's body fell softly to the grass, his neck already broken.

The blood-red eyes of the Windblade Wolf swept over the villagers pulling their bows, and a smirk appeared at the corner of its mouth, as if mocking them.

"Damn it!" Mode heard another wolf howl in the distance.

"Village Chief, there's... another Windblade Wolf!" Morlan looked at Mode in horror.

If there were two Windblade Wolves, or even a third, then the only way for the entire village to survive today would be luck.

"I know, everyone prepare for battle." Mode took out the hunting knife that had been hanging at his waist for a long time. Although it hadn't fought beasts for a long time, Mode had never let his hunting skills deteriorate, practicing every day. Now, it seemed like it was time to use it.

"Yes, Village Chief!" The crowd roared lowly.

Even if they died, they had to kill these beasts.

The villagers were ready for hand-to-hand combat. Arrows had little effect on the Windblade Wolves unless they hit vital spots; otherwise, it was just scratching an itch for them.

In an instant, the second gray Windblade Wolf, emitting red light from its eyes, appeared in front of the crowd. This Windblade Wolf was even larger than the first one.

The two Windblade Wolves stared coldly at the villagers of Algu Village not far away, but didn't immediately attack.

"Shoot! Aim for their eyes!" Mode shouted loudly.

Arrows flew rapidly towards the two Windblade Wolves, with a piercing sound in the dark night. However, none of these arrows hit their targets.

Suddenly, the two Windblade Wolves charged madly.

"Take out your hunting knives, everyone follow me!" Mode shouted loudly, leading the charge.

"Father." Morlanxiu's heart contracted for a moment; his father was not far from him. For the first time in his eight years, Morlanxiu felt panic, an instinctual fear.

He didn't want to see his father die under the Windblade Wolf's jaws; he wanted his father to survive.

Even though his father's right hand was missing five fingers, his father was still the best hunter.

Mode and the villagers of the hunting team had already surrounded the two wolves. A white Windblade flashed by, and a villager suddenly fell to the ground, blood instantly staining the ground beneath him.

The Windblade Wolf used Windblade Magic, and the villagers couldn't dodge it at all; the Windblade was too fast.

*A light, faint sound.*

Mode's hunting knife opened a long wound on the Windblade Wolf's fur, causing it to roar repeatedly. Mode quickly dodged and engaged in close combat with the agile Windblade Wolf, knowing he must know how to dodge.

The Windblade Wolf, injured by Mode's attack, locked eyes with Mode and abandoned the villagers beside it, chasing after Mode. Mode rolled sideways, skillfully avoiding the Windblade Wolf's mouth and claws, leaving another scar on the Windblade Wolf's belly. Even if these wounds weren't fatal, if there were enough of them, the Windblade Wolf would still lose combat effectiveness due to excessive bleeding.

The Windblade Wolf seemed truly angry, suddenly stopping its angry roar, and didn't chase after the agile Mode.

It seemed to be preparing to release its Windblade Magic. The cunning human in front of it made it very angry.

"Father..." Morlanxiu felt the danger.

*Boom!*

A fireball suddenly appeared, hitting the Windblade Wolf's head just as it was preparing to release its Windblade Magic. The blazing fireball burned fiercely, and the Windblade Wolf's miserable cries echoed far into the night.

*Howl!*

The Windblade Wolf that was attacked by the fireball quickly turned around and fled back into the forest. Now, only one Windblade Wolf remained, and three villagers had already fallen.

Then, the second fireball appeared, hitting the tall Windblade Wolf. The fire burned fiercely on its back, emitting a scent of roasted meat in the air.

It was said that the meat of Magic Beasts was very delicious.

A few minutes later, both Windblade Wolves disappeared from the villagers' sight. Magic Beasts were extremely cunning; if they sensed danger, they would flee first.

"Can I finally release magic now?" Morlanxiu looked at his hands; the two fireballs just now were released by him. In the urgency of the moment, Morlanxiu didn't have time to think too much; he just chanted the spell, and then the fireballs really appeared.

"It's a pity I couldn't kill those two Magic Beasts." Morlanxiu said regretfully.

He didn't even think about it; Windblade Wolves were Level 2 Magic Beasts, not so easy to kill. Moreover, he only released two basic Fireball spells, which couldn't kill the Windblade Wolves with one blow.

"Village Chief?" Mora, covered in blood, stood in front of Mode.

"Take the injured brothers back for treatment, including Mochal... Take him back too." Mode's expression was somewhat bleak.

This time, when the Magic Beasts attacked the village, one person died, and three were seriously injured, severely weakening the strength of the hunting team.

"Okay, Village Chief. But..." Mora hesitated slightly and continued, "What about the two fireballs just now?"

Those two fireballs were obviously cast by a mage.

"That's right, I don't know which mage passed by and saved us. Otherwise, our village would be finished." Mode suddenly remembered the fireballs and realized they needed to thank whoever it was.

Looking around, there was no trace of the mage.

"I noticed just now, it seems like the fireballs flew out from the village." Mora said uncertainly.

"Is that so?" Mode was also surprised; from inside the village? How could there be a mage?

Mora nodded and shook her head!

"Father, are you hurt?" Morlanxiu ran out from behind the haystack.

"Morlanxiu, I told you to stay in the house honestly. Why did you run out?" Mode was a little angry; it was very dangerous just now. If a mage hadn't passed by and saved them, everyone would probably have been killed.

"This..." Morlanxiu felt aggrieved, wrinkling his nose slightly, not knowing what to say.

"Morlanxiu, you're still young, you're only eight years old this year, not old enough to hunt. These beasts are very fierce; if something happens

to you, what should I do?" Mode's nose felt a little sour; Morlanxiu was his everything, even if he died, he couldn't let Morlanxiu suffer any harm.

"I know, father, I won't do it again." Morlanxiu nodded.

He understood his father, and he could also understand his father.
