Lynnette and Florence walked through the sandy paths, dominated by dead plants as well as dead trees. The air was dry and the sun was still scorching hot. They had walked for about a day or two, thirsty for water and hungry for food. Ryan wanted to laugh because he had no idea why he was hungry – he was a walking bomb for crying out loud!
The sands behind them had been marked by the feet of these two stranded souls. The sky was clear and there was no cloud dancing in the air. No birds, no animals; only some poisonous snakes and scorpions as well as flying-hungry annoying vultures that sang the most deadly music!
"Vultures! Vultures! Gather around!
Breakfast is almost ready! Make some sounds!
Gather the children! Gather the old!
Let's eat! Let's eat! Some delicious folks!"
"Will you guys stop singing for crying out loud?" Ryan scowled at the vultures.
"They're singing?" Lynnette asked Ryan before glancing at the vultures. "All I hear is 'Caw caw! Caw caw!"
One of the vultures turned to Ryan, "You can hear us? What are you anyway? A walking rectangular spider?"
"Nope, I'm just a bomb and trust me, you won't want to eat me." Ryan said in a nonchalant tone.
"You're a walking bomb? Then that means you won't be delicious." Another vulture spoke. "But I bet the girl would be fascinatingly befitting to my taste."
"Douglas! You stingy asshole! She'll be everyone's taste by tonight!" The two vultures jumped into a fight.
Lynette shivered in fear after noticing that the vultures were smirking at her hungrily, "Ryan, how come it feels like they're talking about me?"
"Actually, they're talking about eating you tonight!" Ryan smiled, "But don't worry, they won't eat you tonight."
"We're definitely eating her tonight!" Douglas barked at Ryan.
Ryan shook his head with a sigh, "What about this? You tell me out to get out of this desert and I tell you the location of some already cooked dinner! What do you say?"
Douglas rubbed his chin with his wings, "And what if you're lying to us?"
"If I'm lying, you lose a human. But if I'm telling the truth, you get to eat in bunches tonight! And remember what I said, those bunches are already cooked!"
"Alright then," Douglas nodded. "There is a crashed aircraft a mile away from here. I don't know if it's still working, but you can try it out."
"Thanks," Ryan sighed even more. "I don't think we can walk another mile. We're exhausted."
"Do you hate being exhausted?" The vulture who had picked a fight with Douglas asked.
"Yes," Ryan replied as he raised a brow.
"Then, would you like being digested? Huh? What do you say?" The vulture grinned evilly.
Ryan laughed, "Nice joke. But I really don't think I can walk another mile."
"Hmm. We could've asked our queen to give you a ride if she deemed you worthy." Douglas replied. "But too bad! We ate her a few hours ago!"
"So, where is the food you promised us?" A vulture asked.
"Just follow the footprints we left on the sand, that should show you the way to your dinner." Ryan replied briefly.
"Vultures! Vultures! Come let's go!
Let's go eat and laugh, ho ho!
Dinner is ready! It's already cooked!
Let's fly! Let's fly! Food! Food! Food!
Ryan and Lynnette watched the hungry vultures flap their wings and head towards food. "Why do they get to have all the food?"
"What just happened? What did you two talk about?"
"Why'd you wanna know? Just some personal stuff," Ryan replied. He wasn't in the mood for talking right now. They walked and walked till it was almost dark.
"I see something!" Lynnette pointed at a large silhouette some meters away. Ryan and the girl charged towards the silhouette and fortunately for them, it was what they were looking for – The crashed plane.
"How do we get it into the air?" Lynnette asked.
"I learnt a thing or two about planes back in my military years," Ryan replied. "As long as the engines and propellers aren't damaged, the plane will be just fine."
"Just the engines and the propellers? What if there are other faulty parts?" Lynnette asked in fear, she was tired of staying here.
"I could try and make them work, but it'll only be for a while," Ryan answered. "Now, get into that plane and see if you can find a tool box."
It was a two seats plane so it wasn't too hard for Lynnette to find the box underneath one of the seats. She brought it to Ryan and he started to work on the plane. The sky was empty; there were no stars, only crowing crows lurking around in the sky. The black bats occasionally zoomed by, embounding the environment in a state of forebodingness.
The fans of the plane started to twirl around, carrying the dusts and the sands. Lynnette beamed with a smile when she felt the cool breeze touch her skin. "You did it?"
"Mm-hmm, what do you think?"
"It's amazing! With this, we can find my dad and reveal the Terrorists hideout to him!" Lynnette jumped up happily.
Ryan smiled seeing her jump. "Sure, sure! Let's get back to the US!"
I do not know which world I am in, but something tells me that I was brought here for a reason. I do not know that reason, but I do know that it must be one worth fighting for. The path ahead will certainly be a rough one and I might even be beaten down along the way. But I will never stop going, until I unveil the reason to my existence. Why was I reborn as a nuclear bomb?
