Chapter Two
Lucian's POV
Hues of orange and black silver lined the sky as the moon turned blood red, thousand screeches and scream of pure terror, agony and pain rented the air as if purifying it. Blood, nothing but blood oozed from my hands and then every opening that was on my body, I fell to my knees unable to move, unsure of what to feel and a devilish aura suffocated me. My head suddenly snapped upwards, horror, resentment and pure evil written on my face but he simply chuckled.
"You don't belong here Lucien, you don't." He chanted.
Then it consumed me, the flames of hell.
Beep, beep, beep.
I woke up with a gasp, sweat beads rolling down my forehead. I desperately reached for the alarm and slammed it against the wall. I struggled to catch my breath and clenched the bedsheets tightly, the bed felt cold and I grunted before getting out of bed. I flipped the light switch and the place lit up. I walked to the water dispenser and took a cup of water, downed it and went straight into the bathroom.
My reflection stared back at me as I turned on the water faucet and washed my face, I ran my fingers through my hair and struggled to catch my breath. The nightmare was never ending. I reached for the face towel and dried my face, a devilish smirk appeared on my face and I walked back into the bedroom.
I glanced at the huge clock on the wall and it was eight in the morning, I had slept late and the blinders were still up. The bed was already drenched with my sweat and the sheets needed changing. A gentle knock interrupted my thought and a maid walked in, her head bowed not daring to look me in the face.
"Change the sheets." I said coldly.
She nodded and scrambled to do as instructed. The door opened once more and my personal assistant walked in.
"Good morning Alpha." He greeted.
"Greg, I told you to call me Lucian." I chastised.
He stiffened. I sighed and went into the bathroom, I spent quality time bathing and my thoughts were scattered all over the place as usual. When I came out my attire for the day was already on the bed and no one was there. I dressed up and made to leave the room but caught sight of a pink muffler, I scoffed, remembering the events of the previous night.
The moment I step out of the room Greg was all over me, telling me of the day's schedule. I didn't bother to have breakfast and ordered that the limo be made ready. I entered the car and zoned off. I spent half the day attending meetings and just when I thought I was done Greg made an annoying announcement.
"You have one more important event today." He reminded.
"What would that be?" I snapped.
He gulped in nervously.
"The orphanage, you offered to fund. Today is the fundraising and your presence is mandatory."
"Mandatory?" I bellowed.
He looked away as I cast him a dirty look. He was right, I needed to be present since I volunteered to do it. I only agreed to such because I needed to get the attention of some investors in order to make them pay for trying to con my years ago, I wasn't going to let it slide. Of course a little orphanage had no connections with the investors but Williams Krueger, the man that sold fake shares to a branch of mine in Sweden five years ago causing the company to almost crash and fall into debt was raised in the orphanage.
He's been trying to run away for years and needs someone to con but what he doesn't know is that I was the owner of the company and I have hundreds more of such companies and I can simply let it slide but the devil wasn't generous with forgiveness. If he notices a big shot he'd definitely show up.
I sighed, feeling defeated.
"Let's go." I ordered.
As I stepped out of my office, took the elevator and walked through the lobby every employee bowed their head or shook in fear. I walked to where the car was parked and got in.
"Are you sure the event has started?" I asked Greg.
"Yes Alpha."
I sighed and looked out the window. Nothing changed, except for civilization. A smile formed on my lips seeing little children play as we passed by. A century ago the entire country was underdeveloped, there was no good transportation or road and there was war everywhere but everything had changed, except the torture and memories I bore.
Half an hour later; the car came to an halt and the car door was held for me. I stepped out and unbuttoned the first two buttons of my tuxedo as I felt a bit hurt. The orphanage looked humble from the outside and the area had a cooling effect. Greg showed me in and we were received by the patroness who was delighted and shocked to see us.
"Right this way Mr. Rutherford." The patroness offered.
I smiled and followed lightly behind her, a beautiful girl in her early twenties came by and greeted me politely to which I replied to. I was led to a very cozy space where a chair was reserved for I and my men. We sat down and my eyes scanned the place, there were little children looking excited in their best of attires , some were munching on a snack or other while others were simply waiting for instructions.
They all tried to be on their best behavior and the place was decorated well, the lighting made it look lovely and the background music was soothing. A couple of chairs were arranged at a distance away from me and I guessed it was for the other guests. I chuckled seeing a little kid argue over a piece of candy with an older kid. Childhood meant innocence, something I craved to have.
My eyes fell on someone and I was shocked for a moment. She squatted beside a kid who was having a hard time knotting his tie. My brain told me she couldn't be the one but she looked my direction and smiled, I gasped. She definitely was the one. Without thinking, I stood up, went over to her, grabbed her by the arms and dragged her to a quiet place.
Before she could protest I grabbed her by the neck and her eyes widened in fear.
"How dare you?"
