Chapter Four
Lucian's POV
The event was well organized but I wasn't. I almost poured a glass of water on myself as I couldn't bring myself to stop staring at the weird girl. I had misunderstood her, twice at that. Her eyes shone whenever she smiled and she seemed to smile a lot which I hated. I hated sincerity and pure bliss and she had that in abundance, the aura around her was an extinct one; pure and unpolluted.
She was all over the place, either helping the kids or tending to the guests. My mind went back to minutes ago when I slammed her against the wall and threatened to kill her. I would actually kill her at the spot if she were guilty and get away with it. No one would ever know how she died, she wasn't the first to be killed through such means but something made me stop halfway.
A pure tear. The purest I'd ever seen, I've seen my fair share of tears shed by humans and none was pure as they were all fake but hers was the purest, I couldn't bring myself to kill her. I grew more uncomfortable with her presence and abruptly made Mt donation before proceeding to leave but I was stopped by the door.
"Mr. Lucian." A gentle voice called out.
I turned back to see the face that taunted me the entire day bloom with smiles at me and I sighed. Greg swiftly moved in front of me and stood in-between the girl and ai while she peered from his huge figure at me. Her bulgy ocean blue eyes accentuated her oval shaped faced and it gave her a heavenly look. I shook my head, such thoughts were unacceptable.
"Let her be." I told Greg.
Greg turned to look at me and shook his head, signaling that he didn't trust the girl but for some odd reason, I did.
"What do you want?" I said emotionlessly.
Her face was red and it showed that she was trying to catch her breath.
"Don't leave so soon Sir." She said in-between breaths.
"We're done here Miss, if you will excuse us." Greg cut her off.
She looked surprised for a second and turned her attention to him, he scowled at her and she was expressionless for a moment. I chuckled and patted Greg's shoulder.
"Let's go." I said quietly.
He half-bowed and the car stopped right in front of us and the door was held open for me, as I was about to sit I felt a petite hand grab my shoulder and I almost jumped out of my skin. It was the weird girl, she has somehow maneuvered her way away from Greg, my two hefty bodyguards and grabbed my arm. The men were alarmed and ready to act but I stopped them with a lift of my hand.
"Miss, are you aware of the consequence of your actions." I asked, staring at her hands.
She seemed to get the point and she let go of me but immediately smiled widely at me.
"You were leaving the event in a rush and after the huge donation you made today I can't let it slide sir. Thank you for being charitable, we do not take it for granted. This cookie is for you." She said cheerfully.
She handed a little box which I didn't notice her carrying from the onset to me.
"What's this?" I asked warily.
"A box of chocolate, I made them myself. It's delicious, I know it's not much but I made it with love." She added, stretching them forward and almost forcing it into my hands.
"What do you think...." Greg started but I stopped him.
I looked at the girl, she looked excited and clueless, just like a naive child or little lamb. She stuck out her tongue at Greg whose eyeballs widened in shock.
"Don't give him even a bit out of the cookies." She pouted like a kid, referring to Greg which made me chuckle for a split second. Greg was astonished so we're others.
I snickered.
"It would take a little more than pretense to fool me. Thank you for the cookies." I said rudely.
She looked confused and I signaled for the men to take her away. She didn't fight them but kept giving me a warm smile. I properly sat in the car and Greg got beside me. The men let go of her and got into the other car.
"Keep yourself warm, it's cold out there. The cookies goes along with a cup of chocolate coffee." She yelled as the car's window was wind up and we drove away.
"Should I get rid of her?" Greg asked.
I kept mute.
"Alpha?"
There was something about her that was different. I couldn't pinpoint what it was but whatever it might be I won't be foolish enough to fall for it, men were devious and evil but women were worse, my scars taught me that the hard way.
"I want to know everything about her, by nightfall." I ordered.
"Yes boss." Greg concurred.
I looked out the window and smirked, my plan was in motion, all that's left is to wait for the bastard to fall into my trap. I retired to my room after having dinner that night and awaited the results of the search. Greg sent me a file containing everything they'd find on the mysterious girl. I smirked as I saw her picture and name boldly engraved underneath.
'Annabelle Das.' I read out loud.
Turns out she was a low class girl who attends college on scholarship and spent her entire life at the orphanage and volunteering at the home for elderlies as well. She was the perfect good girl in her early twenties and her father had a chronic heart disease and needed a heart transplant as soon as possible.
I closed her file and went to bed and for the first time in a very long time, I didn't have a dream. Rather, her face kept reappearing with a smile plastered on her face.
