Chapter 59 - SCOTCH

Selena tossed around as her eyebrows creased, her eyes open as she took in deep breaths. Selena sat up on her bed and looked around her room, the whole place was quiet and all she could hear was the sound of her heavy breaths.

Selena reached her hand out to turn on the side lamp on the table, She sighed as she massaged her temples with her fingers, so much was going on in her head and now she can't even get a good night rest.

Selena got down from her bed and reached her hand out to collect the glass of water, in one gulp she was done with the glass. She looked around her room, her eyes strained on the drawers a little longer than they should.

Selena opened the drawers and brought out the small thumb drive, ever since she stole it from the agency, she had never bothered to check it's content. The thumb drive was another reason why the agency was reluctant to let her go Scot free.

Selena didn't have any computer system lying around, tonight seem to be the perfect time to check it out. Damien was not home and Alfred was downstairs in his quarters fast asleep. Selena sighed as she dropped the thumb drive back inside the drawer and closed it.

Selena knew that if she tried checking out the content of this thumb drive then she would just be putting both her life and Damien's in danger. The Agency had good technology and if she tried inserting this thumb drive into any device, it won't take them less than thirty minutes to trace her and come get her.

The thought of having this mansion surrounded with Agents and then putting Damien and Alfred's life at risk, Selena didn't want to be responsible for any more deaths.

She glanced at the time on the wall, it was still early in the morning, a few minutes past 1am. Selena knew that it would be difficult for her to go to sleep now and so she decided to stay awake for a while, Selena grabbed her cellphone and then she put on her robe. She remembered seeing a bottle in here somewhere and so she checked, there was a mini fridge next to her bed. Selena opened the fridge and then she brought out a bottle of Scotch, she guessed whoever lived here must have loved alcohol.

Selena grabbed a glass and then she made way to the open patio in her room, she opened the bottle of Scotch and poured a fair amount in her glass. Selena raised the glass to her lips and took a sip, the taste of scotch so early in the morning was exactly what she needed. With everything that had been going on, Selena didn't really get the time to sit down and think about it.

A week ago, she lost her mother, and Damien had convinced her not to blame herself, Selena knew deep down that her mother's death was her fault. She was the naive one, if only she was smarter then she won't have let the agency fool her. She had let herself get played by the agency all in the name of saving her mother.

Selena took another sip from her scotch, the early morning wind was cold but she wanted to feel that. As much as she tried to deny it, Selena wanted to avenge her mother's death, the other day Diana had her locked up in that building, Selena wanted to kill her. Selene could feel the urge to kill her but deep down Selena knew that Diana wasn't the one responsible for her mother's death. Diana was only a messenger, she was doing her masters bidding. The one responsible is the man who sits in his office all day sending orders.

The thought of him had Selena drinking from her glass of scotch, she had only talked to him once, that was years ago. She had watched him torture people, everyone feared him, rumor was that he ruled with an iron fist, some said it was literally an iron fist but Selena knew that it was just a little joke on their part.

Nevertheless he was still the same ruthless man, he had no mercy, no compassion for any. Back then she was scared of him, she didn't dare defy him because that would mean a death sentence. But now, Selena didn't care wether or not he killed her, what she did care about was to exact her revenge on him, and the thumb drive was going to be her first step in doing that.

Selena finished all the scotch in one gulp, she closed her eyes as she enjoyed the moment, silence, it was peaceful. She remembered her mother once told her that 1am was the time of poets. Now she understood what she meant by that, the silence was peaceful that anyone would be able to think and Comprehend well.

With a deep sigh Selena walked away from the patio, she dropped the bottle of Scotch on the table along with her glass and her cell phone. She could feel the scotch starting to take it's effect on her, but Selena had good tolerance to alcohol and so she managed to slip under her sheets and drift to sleep.
