Selena continued clinging on to Damien's shirt as she soaked it with her tears, her body shook in his arms as everything finally registered in her mind. She couldn't deny it all, the evidence was now in front of her, her mother was dead, she had no one, no one else now.
The though of it made Selena cry harder, only her sobs could be heard in the quiet cemetery. Damien remained silent as he let her cry out to her hearts content, he thought that was the only comfort he could give her now, letting her cry.
Damien remembered the day he lost his parents, that day seemed like his whole world had burned to ashes in front of his eyes. Damien didn't know if she was feeling what he felt that day, it could be that it was the same feeling, the feeling of loss, fear, at that time Damien thought he had lost everything.
Damien was lucky to have Alfred and Dylan around at the time, they were of good help to him, they helped him out of the darkness and Damien saw hope. Right now he wished he could do the same for Selena but Damien knew he couldn't.
This was just the beginning, Damien knew what follows next, first there's sadness and then anger comes, the thirst for revenge, all that consumes you and turns to hatred. Damien remembered how he investigated his parents murder for years, so many times he thought he was close but he never really got the answers.
"They killed her" Selena murmured in between her sobs.
Damien didn't know what to do, if it was a few years ago then Damien would have Killed Diana because he would have thought that was the right thing to do. But Damien had learnt a lot these past few years, revenge had never solved the problem, and most times we think revenge helps us get over the problem but that's not true, revenge is just you carrying another burden.
"Diana" Selena called the name with so much contempt, she raised her head up from Damien's chest as she wiped the tears off her cheek. "I need...I need to talk to Diana" Selena stuttered as she pulled away from Damien.
Damien could see the new look in her eyes, the anger that pooled up in her veins.
"What are you going to do to her?" Damien asked with his arms crossed as he leaned on the tree behind him.
"You'll know when we get there" Selena said, one could hear the coldness in her tone, the tears had stopped, now she looked like she was ready to face anyone.
"You want to kill her, beat her?" Damien asked. Right now he could tell that she was just acting on her emotions, that was a really bad move from her part. Emotions are misleading and if she was going to follow them then she might as well get caught.
"Do you think killing her would bring your mother back? No, it won't" Damien said carefully as he looked at her from where he stood. "You think you'll get some kind of satisfaction knowing she's dead?" Damien asked but he got no reply from her and so he added. "Killing her will not change anything, your mother is dead and that's reality Selena. You killing Diana would only be another loss in your life" Damien said and then he heard her scoff. He could swear he saw the mad look on her face for a few seconds.
"Do you know how many people I've killed?" Selena asked him as she laughed mocking herself. "With all the training and everything, the skills, even with all that I still couldn't protect the one person I cared about" Selena said as she half smiled.
That was the most bitter smile Damien had ever seen on her face, he could tell that she was breaking, she was falling apart right now but she had to smile to hide everything.
"Diana....she used me....I was their puppet the entire time....so foolish of me to think that those little notes were from my mum, someone who had been lying dead for years" Selena said as tears rolled down her cheeks again. "You tell me not to seek revenge, then what should I do, live my life knowing that I let some scum bags kill my mother" Selena said as she scoffed, she could feel a headache coming up as she tried not to fall on the ground.
"You think the agency killed your mother?" Damien asked. All this while she had blamed the agency for her mother's death but what if she was wrong. Damien didn't want to shift blames or anything but it was good to let everything out.
"My mum was fine before the agency took her in custody" Selena said.
"No she wasn't" Damien spoke as he stayed silent for a moment. "Your mum always had an illness right from the start, the one that the doctors couldn't cure. The car accident that day had somehow triggered that illness and you know that right Selena?" Damien asked but he could see the confused look on her face and so he went on saying. "I made a little research, turns out she had a brain turmoil, she got it from her mother. Now all this while your mother had been trying to fight but she too knew one day that she was going to die. The day of the car accident, I'm sure you noticed she was bleeding, she had a cut on her head, that had triggered the brain turmoil" Damien said and paused trying to get her to process everything. Damien could see the tears rolling down her cheeks as she listened to his words.
"You always told me your mum had an illness, you never really told me what it was" Damien said as he looked at her.
"Mum didn't tell me.... whenever I would ask she'll always dismiss the topic saying it wasn't something serious" Selena answered as she remembered those times she saw her mother coughing or having a bad headache.
"Well my guess is before the agency could take her to the hospital she had already lost a lot of blood and so she died" Damien said, it took a while for him to analyze the whole thing to this point but after talking to Diana and then doing some research he realized that perhaps there was more to this story than he thought.
