"Why do you like pulling me?" Selena asked as she struggled to free herself from his grip but Damien wasn't going to let go.
"You talk a lot" Damien answered as he touched her hair with his fingers and began to fondle them.
"If we are getting married then you are going to have to get used to it" Selena spoke as she stopped struggling, she looked at Damien as her eyes wander around his face. From his grey eyes down to his nose and then his well shaped lips, the man was handsome, one couldn't deny that. Selena sighed as a thought crossed her mind, was it really possible for her to escape from the agency? It was all too good to be true, the agency was not going to let her go just like that. Selena still had the thumb drive in her possession and that puts her life at risk, the only reason she was still alive is because she was with Damien Parker. The agency had one rule and that was secrecy, no one was to know about them.
"What are you thinking about?" Damien asked, he could tell she had drifted.
"Where are we going to?" Selena asked as she looked at him, moving to another country was a great idea.
"Country D" Damien answered, he could have taken her somewhere else but Country D was the only place he had so many resources. He even had a safe house there just in case of emergency, he had a feeling that they would be a lot of emergency later.
"About my mother..…" Selena couldn't find the right words to explain this.
"It's okay if you don't want to talk about it" Damien quickly interrupted, if she wasn't okay talking about it then he wasn't going to force her.
"No, I think you should know" Selena said as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath to calm her nerves.
"I'm listening" Damien said.
"My mum had a serious illness before the accident happened but she was still doing fine and then the accident...it .....it left her paralysed" Selena tried to remember that day, of course she had not forgotten, even though it was five years ago, it felt like yesterday. "She was the one who took the hit, I only had a few scratches but she...her legs....the car crashed into an appliance shop and so the Speakers, well the speakers were the first thing that hit her leg...and then the TV came crashing down" Selena could remember everything that happened that night, she remembered screaming her lungs out in the back seat, she couldn't get anything, the scene had put her in shock.
"The driver died right on the spot, mum screamed in pain as she cried, I...I...I was trying to get out of the car but the seatbelt... it was stuck..." Selena swallowed the lump in her throat as she continued. "We stayed there for like thirty minutes, we kept calling out but no one could here us, mum's illness was acting up again. I was so scared that I might loose her, I was only eighteen years old, and...she was the only one I had...fuck it I was only Eighteen" Selena said followed by a scoff. "They showed up, they gave me an offer, they promised to take care of my mother, pay the bills but in return I'll have to work for them....I was scared...I didn't want to loose my mum...so I agreed and they recruited me" Selena said with a sigh, she was trying her best not to cry right now even though she was hurting.
"What kind of work?" Damien finally asked. He had listened quietly the entire time, he noticed how she tried to give out only little information.
"I can't tell you that" Selena answered, even though she was a rogue agent, she still wasn't allowed to say a word.
"What about your mother?" Damien asked.
"They took her in, her illness got worst and so she had to stay in the hospital" Selena answered as she sighed again, talking about all of this only brought back past memories.
"What hospital?" Damien asked.
"I don't know, they didn't tell me, the agency felt it would be a distraction if I knew where my mother was. But once in a while I get letters from her, and I'll write her back, that's the only way we communicated" Selena answered. No one said anything, silence reigned between the both of them.
Damien didn't know what to make of this situation, if the agency really didn't want any distractions then of course they would have killed her mother. Selena had said that she never did meet her mother in person, that was more than enough proof to conclude that Selena's mother was dead.
"How are you so sure that your mother is in the hospital?" Damien asked.
"I have a friend, she gives me tab on my mother's health, she's even the one helping me right now." Selena added.
"You are being played" Damien spoke not bothering to hide it any longer, they were making a fool of her.
"What do you mean?" Selena asked.
"If the agency really didn't want you to be distracted then that means they killed your mother a long time ago. I'm not trying to say anything harsh but I'm just being honest, that friend of yours, she's probably the one helping the agency with all this. The fact that you've never seen your mother since they took her in, that's saying enough already" Damien explained.
Selena didn't say anything for a while, she was silent as she thought about what he said. Her eyes dimmed as anger pooled in her veins. Damien had a point, no one knew about the thumb drive being stolen, only Diana.
Damien saw the expression on her face changed to one he had never seen before, the smile was gone, the pitiful look was no longer there. All he could see was rage, for someone who had been lied to for the past five years, she sure had every reason to be angry.
