Chapter 8 - A Smile Only A Mother Could Give

Lucy didn't even want to imagine what would happen when she found her dad and her son as she made her way through the rest of the house searching.

After around forty minutes of thoroughly searching through the entire building, she came to a conclusion. Her dad and her son were not there.

A spark of hope lit up within her as thoughts of them surviving brought so much relief into her body.

Making her way back to the porch carrying with her a large bag filled with a few necessities that she might need like food (that one was very important) and a few change of clothes for her and her son (after changing the one she was wearing of course).

She filled her car up with other things then turned back to the building, tears threatening to spill down her face. Opposite her on the front door of her parents house, her mom layed on a floor covered in flowers. Her eyes closed and her face properly cleaned bringing back her mature beauty.

"I'll miss you." Lucy whispered and then raising her arms with a broken heart she yelled.

"FIRE STORM!!!"

With a resounding explosion Lucy watched as the flames engulfed the building and then shot into the night sky a fiery geyser. She watched as the building seemed to melt and evaporate and within the flames her mother seemed to have stood up and with a loving smile only a mother could give, she faded away.

Taking a deep breath, Lucy got back into her car starting the engine at the first try.

Leaving the now empty town in under fifteen minutes.

Only to stop a few minutes away from Meadow Brook.

A black jeep had parked right in the middle of the road, a jeep that she was sure wasn't there when she drove towards Meadow Brook.

A second later she notiya group of people waving her down quite frantically.

Making her way out of the car slowly, cautious of any sudden action. She walked slowly towards the group until she was able to see their faces clearly.

"Pete? Is that you?" Recognizing one of them she called out in surprise.

"Huh? It's Lucy. Lucy how... What are you doing here? You're not hurt are you?" The man in front now known as Pete called back in excitement.

There were around nine people in their group with most of them armed with rifles and the rest carrying machetes and knives.

" Where are you guys coming from? Where are you headed? What happened back in town? Where's everyone? Is .... I..Is Ethan , is Ethan alright?" Lucy fired questions after questions.

Pete's face turned grim at Lucy's questions as he struggled to answer.

"A lot of people didn't make it, there were so many of those damn things that before we even got our bearings we'd lost over half the town. We were able to make a small camp not far from here with the rest of the survivors. And Ethan's ok but..yo.. the old man didn't make it."

Lucy's face turned dark for a moment before it brightened up again.

" I understand, thank you Pete." She said forcing a smile.

' she's staying strong, damn those monsters.' Pete face softened when he glanced at Lucy.

"Come on, we'll take you to the camp." He smiled and then got into the drivers seat in the Jeep as the rest also got in with some getting on the back.

Lucy also got into her SUV and followed.

After a few minutes Lucy's and Pete's cars stopped at a filling station with a massive warehouse beside it.

Stepping down the first thing Lucy noticed was the barricade set up with cars as the foundation. Next were the people carrying rifles on different parts of the barricade and then the numerous people in front of me the warehouse. There were probably more inside.

The situation had calmed down a little so everyone was a little bit relaxed.

However it was a very grim kind of relaxed, with everyone looking like lambs that had already accepted their fates.
