Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: The Girl and her friend (Part 1)

Knock knock...

The knock echoed loud in the fair and occasional quietness of her room as Teresa smiled looking upon the photo of her family placed atop the dresser where she sat getting ready for the day.

In year of the present; It was a bright sunny day in Alexandria, Virginia, today. The sun shone it's rays, pouring them over the elegantly aged walls of the Winthrop manor. The manor was housed by only a few, among which, Teresa Winthrop was the head of the house and the sole owner of the manor.

Along with her, there lived a hand full of staff that helped the girl maintain the integrity of the house as it was too much for a single mid-twenties girl to handle on her own.

And one more resided in the manor; simply called Sia.

The door to the room busted open as the patience of the girl on the other side snapped like a thin thread.

Teresa chuckled knowing she purposely annoyed her childhood best friend by not answering the door when she was the one who insisted that she knocked before coming in.

"Sia, you didn't wait for my permission to come in." Teresa teased as she turned around to see who came waltzing in as if she owned the place.

"And if I wasn't such a cultured girl full of manners; I'd say F*ck you Tree, i knocked ten times." Sia threw herself on the bed humorously showing how tired she was from all the work she had to do around the house in exchange for living here.

When in truth, Teresa and Sia have been living together like sisters since they were merely six years old; Sia was treated in the same family like manner by Teresa's parents when they were still alive.

But with her nature to throw witty jokes around here and there, Sia sometimes pretended it was the opposite case. Since Teresa was aware of her friend's nature to jest, she played along most of the times.

"Where's my breakfast, maid? You know- I can- I can have you hanged for such disobedience and insolence in my presence!" Teresa tried to quip, standing up tall and proud near the edge of her bed in order to intimidate Sia.

Sia who was rolling around Teresa's bed like a tired kitten, even after waking up from a 10 hours worth of good night's sleep; raised her dishevel haired head, "Chill out countess, this is not the medieval times. Violent much?"

Teresa huffed and dropped herself on the bed as well.

Sia chuckled sitting up, " Why don't you leave the jesting to me. You can be the posh snob out of the two of us."

"Shut up! I am not a snob!" Teresa defended herself, looking abhorred by the idea of being snobbish.

"Oh yes you are, why else wouldn't you wanna go to that awesome fair I have been raving about since a week? Instead, you wanna go to a stupid party tonight with those showy jerks who can't stop drinking and showing off their new Jaguars that papa bought them with his blood money. " Sia grumbled as she stood up.

"And the worst part, they end the night with their tongues down each others throats."

Teresa made a disgusted face at what Sia described, all the while thinking of things to oppose with but unfortunately she came up short on that.

"So what else do you suggest, huh? Be a kid and go to a silly fair and eat cotton candy? We should grow out of it now." Teresa gave a look at her.

"Eww, who likes cotton candy?" Sia argued before adding, "They have great pretzels, though." with a sweet smile.

"See! that is what I am talking about. You need to grow up Si. Both of us do. And being grownups means we socialize with people our age instead of going on Ferris wheels and eat pretzels with everything bagel seasonings on top... even if that sounds awesome." Teresa, although opposed, looked like she was being swayed by the idea.

Seeing Teresa beginning to sound convinced Sia saw that as her opportunity, "It's just a few blocks away on the 76th Lane, you know the view from there is always epic."

"Also, I should have you know, it's a traveling carnival; so you know how it's gonna be..." Sia wiggled her brows up and down in an exciting grin.

Not following, Teresa questioned, "How's it gonna be?"

"I don't know," She shrugged, "That's why we should find out."

"Who told you about it anyways?" Teresa tried changing the subject before Sia manages to make her say yes. She always had that effect on Teresa. But now she needs to stay firm in her decisions.

Teresa talked whilst she went into her closet and brought out a few dresses for tonight that they could wear.

"I was getting my favorite sandwich I get on Tuesdays after-" Sia was cut short mid-sentence.

"After you archery lessons ends and you are famished for some; how do you put it?" Teresa made a face to show she was thinking though she knew it like the back of hand.

"Some greasy shit." The two girls said at the same time, giggling at each other.

"Yes, so move along quickly. And by the way do you want the red dress or the black one? I feel like wearing something daring, I am going with the red." Teresa was looking at the mirror whilst putting the dress near her to see what looked better on her.

Sia rolled her eyes at her, "I want the White one. Anyway, as I was saying, I was buying the 'greasy' sandwich and Max told me about it. He said he and his daughters went too and they had a blast. You know he talked about some spooky gypsy stall there too."
