Lysander's condition had already been exposed to the public. He had to deal with the consequences, so there was no point in hiding anything about it anymore. And today was an especially rough day. He had the rare impulse to want to complain.
He beckoned for Alfred to sit in one of the seats in his office before he rang the bell attached to the string near his table—a contraption made by his sister—to call for a servant.
He asked the maid to call Sophia and Darius to his office. While waiting for their arrival, Alfred, upon permission from Lysander, poured a cup of tea for each person who was going to, he supposed, have a somewhat lengthy conversation with Lysander now.
Lysander liked this easy attitude. He supposed, such a no-nonsense approach was something he was going to miss a lot.
After some time, there was a knock on the door. With Lysander's permission, two people entered the office and were asked to sit in the seats in front.
Sophia was Lysander's accountant and assistant. She was also his head chamberlain. A very capable woman. Clever, calm, and direct. She was older than him by five years and was personally chosen by his sister back when she was alive.
Darius was not old among the knights of his family. In fact, he had only joined four years ago, and yet he was already the vice-commander. Before this, he had served at another noble's house but was not able to fit in.
Lysander had seen him there when he was visiting that noble and had extended an invitation to him, saying that he would at least have a better resume if he worked for House Magnolia, even if he couldn't fit in there afterwards. He had initially hesitated but still accepted Lysander's request in the end.
These three had not accepted his help, nor his recommendation letters, or his compensations. The three of them did not seem at all worried about their positions from this point on, nor their jobs.
Lysander was worried for them. These three were his closest confidants, no matter the timeline. He was indeed close to them, to the point he could trust his life with them. But he was not close enough to the point he could figure out their thoughts or actions. If that was the case, he would not be as stumped as he was.
All three of them were also secretive and quiet individuals. But they were all fiercely loyal, and he cared for them deeply.
In a few timelines, they had suffered deeply for him. In others, he had tried his best to keep them safe from all the drama, but his situation had probably greatly affected them.
He now wanted them to live happily. They were all loyal to House Magnolia, and he did feel somewhat guilty when he thought of what he was doing to the house now, but this time, it was for the best. Not only for him but for all of theirs sake too.
Besides, he thought it better that the Magnolia family died with a dying man, not a 'villain'.
