Chapter 7 - Chapter VII

Tanis POV

"Call it magic. Cut me into two. And with all your magic. I disappear from view. And I can't get over. Still, I call it magic. Such a precious jewel," Magic by Coldplay is playing in the background in Lexi's honeydew and lavender coloured bedroom with a very confused looking Lexi located in her walk-in closet in. "Lexi, what's going on in that brain of yours?" I ask with worry present in my voice. She has been starting at her little black dress for six minutes straight without even blinking once. Whatever had good her mind so focus that she forgets to blubk and show signs of human involuntary nature is something that's I'm intrigued to know.

"It's nothing serious," she blinks rapidly and releases a long deep sigh. "Okay, since it's nothing serious as said, and then explain why you just zoned out for six minutes straight?" I ask realizing that my curiosity level is a bit high than usual. "I cannot believe that you've been watching me like an animal for six whole minutes... You're such a creeper," she says while rolling her eyes. I can't help but laugh at that comment. "I was just thinking about how, so far, seeing that it is our senior year, why are we not living through every moment? We're acting like we are in a retirement home, for Pete's sake!" She claimed out of frustration. Lexi is usually the calm one in the crew, so bearing witness to this state of her emotions is always something interesting to observe.

"Well, I might have a solution to that," I say hesitantly. I meanLexi strongly hated hanging around with the A-squad, especially the twins (Jason and Jessica) and whenever you would ask why, she would say, "They fucken think that they are God's girft to people. Like what the fuck, dude?"

"But be warned, you won't like the idea at first. But just give it a few more seconds to make sense," I continue with caution. Silence status filling the room. She starts looking around like she is trying to figure out why I'm not saying anything. "Dude I am waiting for your so called solution," she says a bit irritated. I ley out a sign before saying, "okay I got a text from Mack. Well it was more like an invitation to a party he is throwing. Don't ask me what's the reason for this party because I don't know. We both know the true reason is that he just wants to get drunk". " Okay... So your point is?" She asks impatient. Hesitantly I state "Iwasthinkingforoncewego..."

She has this blank expression that I knew was going to appear the moment I said those words. "Tan slowly so that I can hear what the hell you just said," she says calmly this time. I look at my hands which is my nervous tell. "Girl grow some balls," my subconscious says. Okay. "I said I was thinking that we go to that party this time," I say slowly but loudly enough for her to hear. She looks at me like I just grew a second head. Then she closed her eyes for a few seconds as if she was calming herself or trying to think straight. Now I am on high alert on her reaction because right now, I am expecting her to curse me out of her room.

"So the whole A crew will be there?" She asks after two minutes of unbearable silence. I nod my head in my response, afraid that saying my answer would cause some interruption. "When and what time is it?" She asks. I pull out my phone out if my left back jean pocket and scroll to Mack's name in my inbox. "It's tonight, at nine," I say. She goes silent again. After the silence settled in the room, I couldn't handle anymore. It was deafening. "Lexi talks to me... You're killing me here with all the silence," I say dramatically. I guess Lexi's exaggeration habits are starting to rub off on me, I think to myself annoyingly.

"Well dude I don't know what to say I mean it is a solution to out retirement home problem but on the other hand, those people are really not my type of people. I mean they are like water and I'm like oil... We can never mix!" She says having so much exhaustion at the end of the sentence. "Well Lexi really this is up to you. I'm not really a social butterfly and you know parties are amongst the things that I don't like participating in... Right there with camping," I say kneeling down in between her legs, squeezing her hand to being a sense of assurance. She looks down her hands, which were on her lap like they were the most interest things ever created. After what felt like forever she says, "Okay, let's do it. It's not like they will be the only people where. We can do this," she gives me an ear to ear smile. I look in her eyes and all I can see is excitement about the party, so I automatically smile back.

-----------------------Time Lapse-------------------

I open the right side door of the taxi that dropped us off at Mack's house party. I check my surroundings and I'm faced with this homage playboy mansion. It even has a playboy them to it, with models wearing white and pink bunny ears and lingerie greeting guests at the entrance of the gates. "Wow! Ever heard of the word modesty? I guess not," my subconscious comments. "Oh my gosh!" Lexi says all shocked while walking my way. Her voice sounds exactly like how I feel. "Are we at the right place? I thought we were going to a high school party, not a flipped masquerade party. Wait a minute, is it Halloween already?" She continues and I burst into a fit of laughter at her last statement.

"Lexi, it's still January last time I checked. And I do think that we are at the right place according to the name on top of the mailbox, Peterson," I say trying to hold my laugh because my mind is stuck on her last comment. Mack's full name is Mack William Petterson, named after his great grandfather or something like that. "It looks like we are way overdressed," she says looking at her outfit. Lexi is wearing an LBD (little black dress) that ended midway on the thigh and had an open back and paired them with blood red heels. She accompanies the dress with a long necklace with a cloudy colour stone as the main attraction and hool earrings; her hair is loosely curled and with the bare minimum of make up to play off a ni make up/make up looks. All in all, she looked stunning. I, in the other hand, am wearing tight pitch black high waisted pants and a black crop top paired with stiletto heels. I accompanied the outfit with a black and silver neck chocker, my hair is in a messy bun and the only sign of make up on my face is the eyeliner on my waterline making my brown eyes pop. "Yeah, I think you're right. Sadly, we didn't get the memo of undergarments only theme," I say. "Oh well, we can't go back home now. Let's just have fun, okay," I continue ending it with a polite smile. We get inside the mansion and the music Volume could cause permanent ear damage, that's how loud it is. "This is one of the reason why I stay at home," my subconscious says, whines. Sometimes, Tan your comments are not helping solve the situation at hand. I look over at my left side, where Lexi should have been but hi I've is there anymore.

I look at the one place I am sure she went to... The dance floor. Lexi loves everything concerning music, so the dance floor should be the first place one looks at. I spot her there dancing to Beyonce - Single Ladies. "I guess I'll be getting the first round of drinks," I mumble to myself. I make my way to the kitchen. It isn't that hard to find because besides the noise coming from the speakers, the kitchen is the second loudest place in the whole mansion. I walk into kitchen, I bumo into familiar but not so pleasant faces - the A squard. "Look what the cat dragged in!? I really thought you won't come," Mack says while walking over and giving me a hug. "Well I wasn't planning to come, honestly speaking. You should thank Lexi for wanting to come," I whisp r in his ear while still hugging. He finally breaks the gut after a few more seconds .

"Lexi is here? Where exactly is she?" Coleasks. "Hello to you too, Cole. I'm great thanks for asking," I say in a sarcastic way but ended it with a smile. "I'm sorry ma. Whenever I hear her name, my manners just fly out of the window. You know I got much love for you," he says, with his turninga but red out if embarrassment and he gives me a hug. Jason walks my way, but gets redirected by Kimberly, "Babe cineabd see this," she says loudly looking up frim her with a you better come my way look. "Okay?" my subconscious says. I am list for words. "So what's there to drink? I ask, which is a poor attempt to change the subject and a way of clearing the tension that is starting to building up in the kitchen.

Mack clears his throat, "okay there is a whole lot if alcohol, but I know that you don't drink. I don't get why you don't but whatever. So I kind of bought different cool drunks for you and anyone who isn't in the mood for alcohol," he ends it with an eat to ear smile. "Wow, he actually thought of someone besides himself when organizing this party," my subconscious says. Ladies and gentlemen, she's back! I really don't want to say what I am thinking, so I turn his direction and I kiss him in the cheek. He turns a bit red and smikeskije a five year old kid who got his favorite sweets. "Thank you so much," I say to Mack and head to the fridge to get a drink for myself. While browsing through the variety of drinks, I feel a blow of hot air breathing on my neck. I get goosebumps from the effect that the person behind me has on me. I automatically close my eyes for a few seconds . "Jason," my subconscious whispers. Yep, that's how much he has an effect on me.

He literally all the snappy comments in my brain. I open up my eyes and focus on what I was doing before this interruption, I grab a sprite can with my left hand and I turn around . I'm expecting him to move out of my way seeing that I am not in the mood to explain myself, but he doesn't get the hint. I liij up, into his eyes and they had a hunt. I liij up, into his eyes and they had a hint of mischief in them. "He is just a guy, not God," my subconscious keeps chanting. "Well unlike Mack you have never done anything which wouldn't benefit you in any way," I say and gently push hin out of the way. He pulls my ark and we have a 30 second stare game. I am not starting out of pride of losing or anything, I just have a tendency of getting lost in his eyes and forget where and what I am doing.

"Babe, what's going on here?" Kimberly breaker the Trans and he keys go. I hear to the basket of ciders filled with ice as well in the middle of the kitchen, and I pick a random cider and started walking out of the room. "Thanks again Mack," I shout while leaving the kitchen without looking back. I walk in the direction of the loud music this time. "Where are you, Lexi? Please tell me I don't have to interrupt a make out sessionso early in the night,' my subconscious whines. This is I don't do parties, I have to look for people and that annoys my every being. I scan through the crew at the dance floor section. It is a show jam playing and I see red/ginger hair. That can only be Cole. I just hope he is dancing with Lexi and not some stupid bimbo. As he turns around, I see Lexi in his arms. A sigh of relief escapes my lips. I wave in their direction and after a few seconds she naps out of whatever trance she was in and comes my way.

"Hey I got you a cider. I thought you might be thirsty from all the dancing, but it seems like you're in good hands," I say doing the whole nag nag/ wink wink thing. "Oh shut up," she says smiling from ear to ear with a bit of blush redness on her cheeks. We laugh after that. "Well, go back to him. He seems lost without you," I say pushing her in Cole's direction. I'm really happy that she's enjoying herself. The DJ starts plays an oldie, Hometown Glory by Anele (the house version). I automatically close my eyes for second time this night. That's how I enjoy my surroundings, by closing my eyes. I'm standing in view of the dance floor listening to the song playing without asking making a move. "Someone would swear you're shocked frozen," Jason whispers behind my ear. I know it's him by the shivers running down my spine. My eyes fly open. "There goes the one moment of actually enjoying the music," my subconscious says irritated. "I was just enjoying the song," I say turning around to face him.

He looks into my eyes for a good sixty seconds and then moves forward to hug me. I allow it. I mean I miss these hugs. "Hey," he whispers in my ear. "Hey stranger," I say back relaxing. I try to pull away after some time, but he wouldn't let me go. There is anything I could do but stay in his arms for a few more seconds. The hug is broke by a few simple words, "dude, Kimberly has been looking for you," Mack says. Jason looks at me first... Like his mind and body were having an internal battle. I nod my head, "go, it's fine," and I put on a fake smile.
