Chereads / The Billionaire's Unexpected Twins / Chapter 23 - A Breakthrough

Chapter 23 - A Breakthrough

The past week has been incredibly stressful. Candy's disappearance has left me feeling helpless and anxious. It's even more troubling to learn that Alex wasn't who he claimed to be, using a fake name that complicates the search efforts.

Zayn's determination to bring Candy home is a glimmer of hope in this dark situation, but the lack of progress from the police is disheartening. Every day feels like an eternity as we wait for any news or leads. I'm meeting Zayn for breakfast at a nearby McDonalds.

"I have discovered Alex's real name. His name is Adam Dean. Last night he was spotted by one of my guys at a private bar. I'm going there tonight."

Zayn's words bring a glimmer of hope to my heart, despite the heavy weight of worry that still lingers. As we sit together at breakfast, his presence is a comforting anchor in the storm of uncertainty. T

The news of a potential lead fills me with both anticipation and nervousness, knowing that each step forward brings us closer to finding Candy. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for the challenges ahead, but grateful for Zayn's unwavering support. I just want to bring Cindy home safe and sound.

After breakfast , Zayn came to drop me off at work. He told me he has to prepare for tonight. I didn't wanna inquire more because I honestly don't want to know what he's actually planning. As long as Candy will be back, I'm good with that.

As I step into the salon, a wave of unease washes over me at the sight of empty chairs and the absence of familiar faces. Without Candy's managerial expertise and Alex's skilled barbering, the bustling energy of the salon feels diminished.

I make my rounds, checking on the remaining staff and offering words of encouragement. Despite their best efforts to maintain normalcy, I can sense the tension and uncertainty that looms over the salon.

Resolved to keep the business running smoothly in their absence, I dive into the day's tasks, delegating responsibilities and ensuring that clients are taken care of. Yet, with each passing moment, my mind drifts back to Candy and the looming question of her whereabouts. It's a challenging day, filled with moments of doubt and worry, but I'm determined to stay strong and focused until we find answers.

As I pick up the phone, Zayn's voice cuts through the line, his urgency palpable as he asks me to take the twins to stay with his sisters for the night. Instantly, my mind races with concerns, knowing the strained relationship between me and Zayn's family.

"But Zayn, you know how your family feels about me." I protest, my voice tinged with apprehension.

"What if they don't want the kids there either?"

Despite my reservations, Zayn reassures me, his tone gentle yet firm.

"Kattie, trust me on this. It's the safest option for the kids right now. My sisters are fond of you. Even if they weren't , they would never mistreat innocent kids."

He insists, his words carrying a weight of concern that I can't ignore. Reluctantly, I agree, promising to take the twins to their aunt's house as soon as possible, my heart heavy with uncertainty.

"Becky will come and get them at school babe , I'll just go over to your place and pack bags for them, and then I'll come get you there and we'll head to the private bar , okay?"

"Okay."

The worry gnaws at me, a relentless companion in this ordeal. Candy's safety is paramount, but the thought of being away from my kids, even for a night, fills me with a sense of unease. As I grapple with the decision, conflicting emotions tug at my heartstrings.

The fear of the unknown looms large, overshadowing my maternal instinct to protect. I can't shake the nagging thought of what might have happened to Candy at the hands of this mysterious Adam. Despite my fears, I resolve to prioritize my friend, steeling myself for the task ahead.

We are at this very discreet place. You can tell that people here are free because security is pretty tight. I'm sure most of these men are married. They look and act that way. Even their dressing codes are proving my suspicions.

Sitting alone at the table, I fidget with the coaster, anxiety coursing through me like an electric current. The dimly lit bar feels suffocating, each passing second amplifying my apprehension. Zayn's absence weighs heavy on my mind, his cryptic departure leaving me to grapple with my racing thoughts.

I steal glances at the patrons, their laughter and chatter a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing within me. I can only hope that Zayn's conversation with the manager yields some promising leads in our search for Candy.

Here comes Zayn. Feeling a rush of relief at his return, I eagerly accept his outstretched hand, rising from my seat to join him. His touch provides a sense of grounding amidst the chaos of uncertainty, offering a glimmer of hope in our quest to find Candy. With determined strides, we navigate through the crowded bar, anticipation building with each step.

Zayn slides into the driver's seat, his expression tense yet determined.

"The manager mentioned that Adam is a regular here." He begins, his voice laced with urgency.

"He's supposed to come by later tonight. We need to stick around and see if we can find out more." As he speaks, I feel a surge of apprehension mingled with determination. Every moment counts in our search for Candy, and the prospect of getting closer to finding her fills me with a renewed sense of purpose.

"But baby , don't you think that is dangerous?"

Zayn's eyes meet mine in the dim light of the car, his expression serious yet reassuring.

"I understand your concern, but I've taken precautions."

He says calmly.

"We'll have security nearby, and I'll make sure you're safe."

Despite his assurances, a knot of worry tightens in my stomach. The thought of facing potentially dangerous situations for the sake of finding Candy is both terrifying and necessary. Yet, with Zayn by my side, I feel a glimmer of courage, knowing that together, we can navigate whatever challenges lie ahead.

As the hours tick by, the tension in the air becomes almost palpable, each passing minute dragging like an eternity. Just when we start to lose hope, a figure emerges from the shadows, catching our attention.

My heart lurches as I realize it's him, the elusive Adam, or Alex, whatever his name is. Zayn's grip on my hand tightens, a silent reassurance amidst the uncertainty. We exchange a nervous glance, steeling ourselves for whatever is coming.

With adrenaline coursing through our veins, we waste no time in confronting Adam. Zayn's swift and decisive actions catch me off guard as he seizes Adam and escorts him to the car. The tension is growing thick as we drive to a secluded spot, the weight of the situation hanging heavy in the air.

When we arrive, Zayn's righteous anger boils over, his fist connecting with Adam's face in a swift and forceful blow. It's a moment of raw intensity, the culmination of days of fear and uncertainty. I didn't expect things to happen this way. I have never seen Zayn like this.

As we confront Adam, tension thickens in the air. Zayn's voice cuts through the silence, demanding answers about Candy's whereabouts. Adam's defiant demeanor only fuels Zayn's frustration, prompting him to apply more force in his questioning.

Despite Adam's resistance, I interject with a plea for cooperation, hoping to appeal to any shred of decency within him. Yet, his responses remain elusive, each word laced with arrogance. With each refusal to cooperate, Zayn's patience wears thinner, his actions becoming more forceful as he presses Adam for the information we so desperately need.

This secluded area is also making my nerves worse. How did Zayn know of this place anyways? The tension hangs thick in the air as Zayn, Adam, and I stood facing each other. Zayn's voice is stern as he demands answers from Adam about Candy's whereabouts.

Adam smirks, his arrogance visible as he shrugged off Zayn's inquiries, taunting us with cryptic responses.

"You'll never find her."

He sneered, his defiance only fueling Zayn's frustration.

"Enough games, Adam."

Zayn growled, stepping forward with a menacing glare. I intervened, attempting to reason with Adam, but he remained obstinate, refusing to cooperate. With each passing moment, the tension escalated, and I could sense Zayn's patience wearing thin, his resolve hardening as he prepared to do whatever it took to uncover the truth.

With a forceful blow, Zayn struck Adam once more, the impact echoing through the desolate surroundings. As Adam recoiled from the punch, his expression shifted from defiance to astonishment, his eyes widening in disbelief.

Seizing the opportunity, Zayn leaned in close, his voice low and menacing as he revealed the leverage he held over Adam.

"I know about your illegal activities. I know why you changed your name. I know who you're running from."

Zayn declared, his voice laced with authority.

"The evidence we have could put you away for a long time. But it wouldn't be that long for you because you messed up with a lot of bad people who could get to you inside and kill you the minute they hear that you were arrested. But we're willing to make a deal. You give us information on Candy's whereabouts, and we'll consider not turning this over to the authorities."

Adam's eyes widened in alarm, realizing the precarious position he was in. I wonder how Zayn got all this information. I'll ask him later , for now , I'm grateful that we are going somewhere.

The color drained from Adam's face, replaced by a look of fear as the gravity of his predicament sank in.

"You're in no position to negotiate." Zayn asserted, his words carrying a weight that left Adam speechless, his facade crumbling under the weight of his own treachery.
