Chereads / The Billionaire's Unexpected Twins / Chapter 25 - Deception

Chapter 25 - Deception

With Candy's safety secured, I can finally shift my focus to the next phase of hiring. Today's agenda includes a tasting session with Zayn and Kylie, where we'll sample dishes prepared by potential candidates.

Kylie is my senior chef. I hired her recently when the one I had started his own restaurant.

I can't help but feel excited, especially thinking back to the girl who came a bit later. Her story touched me a lot. The prospect of experiencing her culinary creations firsthand fills me with anticipation. It's not merely about finding someone to fill a role; it's about discovering a talented individual who can add flavor and creativity to our team.

Her name was…Emily. Emily Golding. She seemed passionate about food and eager to showcase her abilities. Despite the brief encounter, her charisma and self-assurance left a lasting impression on me. I was intrigued by her potential and I'm curious to see if her culinary talents match her confident demeanor.

Today's tasting session has been a whirlwind of flavors and culinary delights. Kylie, Zayn, and I have been meticulously sampling each dish, trying to discern the perfect balance of flavors and presentation.

With so many talented candidates vying for a position in our kitchen, the decision-making process is proving to be tougher than anticipated. As I glance around the room, I can't help but wish Candy were here to lend her expertise.

Nevertheless, having Zayn by my side provides some much-needed support and reassurance.

However, amidst the sea of aspiring chefs, one name seems to be conspicuously absent: Emily Golding. I distinctly remember her mentioning her interest in the position and even expressing her confidence in her culinary skills.

Yet, as I scan through the list of candidates, her name is nowhere to be found. It's puzzling, to say the least. Could there have been a mix-up with her application, did she even receive a call? Regardless, her absence leaves a noticeable gap in our tasting lineup, and I can't help but wonder what delicious creations she might have brought to the table.

We are done for today. All I wanna do now is do a follow up and figure out why Emily didn't pitch. She needed this job , probably more than anyone else and I cannot shake the feeling that there has been a mistake.

"Hey, Megan, can you come to my office for a moment?"

I call out as I glance over at the reception desk. Megan nods and quickly makes her way over, a curious expression on her face.

"Sure, what's up ma'am?"

She asks as she enters my office.

"Thanks for coming."

I begin, gesturing for her to take a seat.

"I just wanted to check if you managed to call every single candidate who left their CV to come in for today's tasting session."

Megan furrows her brow slightly, flipping through her notes on the clipboard.

"Yes, I called everyone on the list we had. Some confirmed their attendance, while others said they couldn't make it today."

I nod, mulling over her response.

"Did anyone mention Emily Golding by any chance?"

I inquire, hoping to shed some light on her absence.

Megan pauses, scanning through the list once more.

"No, her name isn't on here. There's actually no CV by that name. Would you like me to call her for you perhaps?

I consider the suggestion for a moment before shaking my head. I don't have her number.

"No, it's alright. Thanks, Megan. That's all I needed to know."

I reply with a grateful smile.

Megan nods and heads back to her desk, leaving me to ponder the mystery of Emily Golding's absence.

"Hey, Zayn, can I talk to you for a moment?"

I ask as we find a quiet corner away from the hustle and bustle of the tasting event.

"Of course, what's on your mind?"

He replies, giving me his full attention.

"I wanted to discuss something that's been bothering me."

I begin, my brows furrowing with concern.

"Remember Emily Golding? The girl who dropped off her CV and seemed really eager for the job?"

Zayn nods, recalling the name.

"Yeah, I remember her. What about her?"

"Well, she didn't show up today for the tasting event."

I explain, my tone reflecting my worry.

"Considering how desperate she seemed for the job, I find it odd that she wouldn't come. Worse , her CV isn't on the front desk. It's supposed to be there because I instructed her to leave it there."

Zayn's expression mirrors my concern as he ponders the situation.

"That is strange. Maybe something came up?"

He suggests, though his tone indicates he's not entirely convinced.

"I suppose…"

I reply, though the unease lingers in the back of my mind.

"I just hope she's okay. It's unlikely for her to miss an opportunity like this."

Zayn places a reassuring hand on my shoulder.

"We can look into it further if you want. Make sure everything's alright."

I nod, grateful for his support.

"Yeah, let's do that. Thanks, Zayn."

"I suggest we start by checking out the CCTV to see if she dropped her CV at the desk or she forgot."

"That's a good idea," I agree, nodding in appreciation of Zayn's suggestion. "Let's head over to the server area."

We're going through the footage , indeed , Emily dropped her CV at the front desk! Then why isn't it there? Is someone sabotaging her?

"It's not making any sense."

I mutter, frustration evident in my tone as Zayn and I review the footage of the front desk.

"Emily clearly dropped off her CV here. Why isn't it in the stack?"

Zayn nods, his brow furrowed in deep thought.

"It's possible that someone intentionally removed it."

He suggests, his voice tight with concern.

"But why would anyone do that?"

I shake my head, feeling a mixture of anger and worry bubbling within me.

"I don't know, but we need to find out."

I declare, determination clear in my voice.

"Emily was desperate for this job, and if someone is sabotaging her chances, they're going to answer to me."

Zayn places a comforting hand on my shoulder, his eyes reflecting his unwavering support.

"We'll get to the bottom of this."

He assures me, his voice steady and reassuring.

"We won't let anyone stand in the way of justice."

With a renewed sense of determination, we continue to comb through the footage, determined to uncover the truth behind Emily's missing CV.

Looks like we have a sneaky worker who took Emily's cv and probably got rid of it. The footage is missing some clips so this person works here and know exactly how we operate

"It's becoming clearer."

I sigh, frustration lacing my words as we piece together the puzzle of Emily's missing CV.

"Whoever took her CV must have known exactly what they were doing. They knew the blind spots in the footage and took advantage of them."

Zayn's jaw tightens, his expression darkening with anger.

"It's despicable."

He growls, his voice tinged with fury.

"To sabotage someone's chance at a job like this..."

I nod in agreement, feeling a surge of determination coursing through me.

"We need to find out who's responsible."

I declare, my tone resolute.

"And when we do, they'll face the consequences."

Zayn nods in agreement, his eyes flashing with determination.

"We'll keep a close eye on everyone."

He says firmly.

"No one gets away with this under our watch."

With a shared sense of purpose, we set out to uncover the identity of the culprit, determined to bring justice to Emily and ensure that such sabotage never happens again. Emily needs this job.

"I know we're busy, but we have to find Emily."

I implore, my voice tinged with urgency as I turn to Zayn.

"She's counting on this job, and someone is actively working against her. We can't let her down."

Zayn's expression softens, his resolve unwavering as he places a comforting hand on my shoulder.

"We'll do everything we can baby. I'll find her."

He assures me, his voice steady with determination.

"Emily deserves a fair chance, and we're going to make sure she gets it."

With Zayn's support bolstering my determination, we set out to track down Emily, determined to right the wrong that had been done to her and ensure that she has the opportunity she rightfully deserves.

I'm calling an urgent staff meeting. I want to inform them about what I've just discovered. As the staff gathers in the meeting room, I take a deep breath, my voice resonating with a sense of urgency and determination.

"I have some troubling news to share."

I begin, my gaze sweeping across the room to meet the eyes of each employee.

"It appears that someone within our organization has tampered with Emily's job application. Her CV, which she submitted at the front desk, has mysteriously disappeared."

A murmur of concern ripples through the room as the gravity of the situation sinks in.

"This is unacceptable."

I continue, my tone firm.

"Emily deserves a fair chance, just like every other candidate. We cannot allow sabotage to undermine our hiring process."

I pause, letting my words sink in before concluding,

"I need your full cooperation in uncovering the truth behind this incident. If anyone has any information, no matter how small it may seem, I urge you to come forward. Together, we will ensure that justice is served and that Emily receives the opportunity she rightfully deserves."

With a shared sense of resolve, the staff nods in agreement, ready to assist in any way they can to rectify the injustice that has occurred. I can't determine if any of them look guilty.
