Chapter 4 - Picking roomies

Kimberly's POV:

Jace's parents' Malibu beach house is huge. I mean, it has massive glass windows everywhere, five enormous bedrooms (each with two large beds), an indoor theater, and a game room. The theater and game room walls are a deep green, with plush black chairs and purple LED lights shaped like stars and moons dotting the walls—it's like you're in another world. The parlor is just as impressive, with four long baby-pink sofas stretching across the room. And the dining room has this insane blue rock display at the end that looks like a water fountain but isn't—just really realistic art. But my absolute favorite? The terrace. You can see the ocean perfectly from there. It's breathtaking.

Two of Jace's friends finally arrived: Casey, a blonde with hazel-green eyes, and Luke, a dark-haired guy with piercing blue eyes. And of course, the arrival of two attractive guys instantly set the girls into "roommate negotiation" mode.

"Alright, we're gonna pick roommates," Jace announced, grinning.

"Yay! I pick Kimmy!" Kenna immediately said, linking her arm through mine.

Jessica jumped in, "Jade, you're with me."

But Jade crossed her arms, pouting. "Arghh, no…I want Casey."

"No, I want Casey!" Tori shot back, narrowing her eyes.

Jade glared back. "I saw him first."

Tori huffed. "Fine, then Luke is all mine."

Jessica wasn't having it. "Leave Luke out of this…he's mine."

Tori folded her arms. "No, you can't have any of them."

Jessica threw her hands up. "I just want Luke!"

"Who said you can have Luke?" Jade interrupted with a pointed look.

Tori rolled her eyes. "You said you want Casey—"

"But I want Luke too—" Jade started.

Tori sighed dramatically. "You can't have both."

"But I want them both!" Jade insisted, not budging an inch.

Casey glanced over at Luke and shrugged. "Roomie?"

Luke smirked, nodding. "Done."

Casey clapped him on the shoulder. "Cool."

Jessica pouted, "Ha, guess you're stuck with me then, sis."

Jade sighed, pretending to be exasperated. "Sadly."

Tori blinked, realizing she'd lost the round. "Wait…where am I gonna stay?"

Jade shrugged. "Nobody wants you, Tori."

I jumped in before this spiraled further. "How about you move one of the beds from the third room to the second room? It's large enough to fit an extra bed."

Jade's face lit up. "Okay!"

Jessica beamed. "Cool!"

Tori clapped her hands. "Now we get to stay together!"

"Yay," Jade said, rolling her eyes but laughing anyway.

Jessica batted her eyes at Luke. "Luke-boo, we need your help moving one of the beds from the third room to the second room."

Tori turned to Casey. "Oh, Casey, we need your help too"

"Sure" Casey agreed.

Luke gave a nod. "Yeah, I'll help."

With a chorus of "Yay!" from the girls, they all trooped off to rearrange beds. I watched them, shaking my head. Sometimes, I feel like these girls are just unpredictable; one moment they're arguing over boys, and the next, they're thrilled to share a room.

So, the rooming setup: Kenna and I are together, Jessica, Jade, and Tori are together, Casey and Luke are roommates, and Jace has no roommate—and honestly, he seems thrilled about that. According to him, the other guys "couldn't make it today because something came up," so it's just us for now.

After we settled in, hunger set in for everyone, so Kenna took charge and whipped up a huge pot of spaghetti. It was the perfect end to a chaotic day.
