Chapter 2 - 2: Meet My Family

So, who wants to meet my family, and move on from the subject of myself? Me too! I have a baby sister, Adamantia, which in Greek means "invincible", and a little, six year old brother, Kairos, meaning "right, or opportune moment". I have a mother, yes, but she isn't the typical, loving mother. Ever since I was old enough to take care of myself, which was me at the age of four, she thought I was old enough to take care of her and my brother, too. So, most nights, she was either out at a bar and having her fun while I was the real parent, or coming home drunk and whining for dinner. And my father, you ask? Never met him, never seen him, never think about him, and never talk about him. So, I don't know what happened to him, even after all these years.

Wow. I just realized what time it is. I've been up all night. And I have an hour to get myself ready for school. I'm virtual, since I have to take care of my siblings, and I usually leave my camera off for privacy reasons. Anyway, I've got to get ready.

I was able to shower and throw on a hoodie with some nice ripped jeans. I was, as of now, cooking some breakfast, and holding Tia, my sister, at my hip. That was my nickname for her. Soon, I'd have to wake up my brother. But, right now, one thing at a time. I finished breakfast, some eggs and sausage for me and Kairos, and a bottle of warm milk for Tia. I grabbed my chromebook, sat on the couch, and was able to finish some assignments for today before the virtual class FaceTime. I didn't notice it, maybe because I was too busy feeding my sister, but my camera was on. I would find this out later. "Alright, class, you know the drill. You do the work as I talk about the subject." My friend texted me. I glanced at it, and read, "Who's the baby?" I sighed, annoyed, and texted back, "She's my sister. Leave it alone." But he didn't. The thing is, I've never told him the truth about my life. And he never asked. But now.... oh, boy. "No. You never told me you had a sister. So what's going on really?" I texted him back with, "I'll tell you later. You have work to do since I already finished mine." On the screen, a girl raised her hand. She had black hair and beautiful, ice blue eyes. "Yes, Martha?" "I have a question for Ted. Who's the baby?" I internally groaned. "None of your business. I've finished all my work, ma'am, so I'm getting off for today." And I closed the FaceTime without another word.
