CHAPTER FORTY EIGHT: SUNDAY FEELINGS
"Shut up Morayo!" I said in a low tone as I pushed her face away from my ear
"I knew it!" she said in a low tone as she smiled and looked away
I turned to look at Samuel who had been looking at Morayo and I little play
"You know each other from home?" he consciously asked
"No, we met here and became friends" I answered him trying not to add any unnecessary clause to it
"Oh…" he said with a smile as he looked away before looking at me again
"How old are you?" he asked curiously
"Nine. I am nine years old" I answered almost immediately
"Already nine or you are about clocking ten?" he asked as if surprised to hear my age
"Already nine" I answered him with a little chuckle because of his reaction.
"Wow! You are super young to be in J.S.S. one. Did you do primary six?" he asked curiously to know what made me to be in this class at a very young age
"I didn't do primary six. My school doesn't have primary six instead, when you reach primary five… you have to do both primary five and primary six studies" I explained his curious question
"No wonder but, doing both work in three terms is going to be so brain cracking" he responded with a worried expression
"No, it was quite easy to work on both because, I was already doing little of primary five work in primary four leisure classes" I explained also shocking his curious expression
"Oh…okay!" he said and then looked away "I am actually two years older then you" he responded before looking at me
"Eleven. You must be eleven!" I said as I calculated it
"Yeah!" he answered nodding his head
He was about saying another word when the usher barged in and interrupted him from talking, she warned us not to talk again
I guess she didn't bother to tell me to stand up because, Samuel was also talking
I was half relieved because of she didn't make me stand up. That will be so embarrassing! Many of the students in the congregation will be looking at me like a stubborn parrot.
I was also half annoyed that she had to interrupt my discussion with Samuel; it was actually making me not to sleep.
Before I knew it, special number activities ended then, various activities took place like hymn, junior and senior school choir ministration separately and bible text before the sermon started.
"Urgh!" Morayo groaned as she saw the same man that introduced himself as the church coordinator climb the pulpit
"Praise the lord!" the church coordinator started as soon as he took the microphone
"Hallelujah!"
"Let's stand up to pray" he said before starting a worship song
"I knew it, can't he just tell us bow our head to pray instead of standing up on our aching feet" Morayo complained as she groaned while standing up
"So, you can sleep while bowing your head ba?" Victoria asked as she stood up as well
('ba' is also the same thing as 'uh' or 'eh' in either the question or exclamation marks)
I laughed at the question Victoria ask
"You are talking as if you won't sleep as well" Morayo said in her own defence
"Me sleep? In your dreams" Victoria said to her trying to recollect when she had ever slept while bowing head for prayer
"There is no need to remind you but, all I know is that you have slept while bowing head for prayer not even once or twice" Morayo said to her as she looked away to face the pulpit so, she can hear what the church coordinator is saying
"When? Where? How? Which time?" Victoria asked shocked at the words she heard from Morayo's mouth
Morayo ignored Victoria's question as she prayed as soon as she heard the prayer point from the church coordinator's mouth
Victoria noticed that Morayo was trying to ignore her.
As if reading her thoughts, I assumed that she was annoyed that Morayo had to lie against her.
I wanted to ask what the big deal was that, she had to be annoyed at something minor like that
I kept quiet since, she isn't the same as me.
She might be annoyed that Morayo is taking her for someone who doesn't take to her advice but instead, uses it on others
After the prayer, the church coordinator's instructed that we should sit down back on our seats to listen to the sermon
As the sermon was going on, we saw some students on hi-jab passing by the chapel through the chapel's window
"The Muslims always finish earlier than us" Morayo complained as she dragged her words
"You can go outside and join them" I said to her, not really getting her at all
Is it that she came to chapel to just be there or for blessings?
The Muslims are different from us although we worship the same God but, that doesn't mean we finish at the same time
It goes with some churches that don't finish at the same time as others.
"Shake my hand jare" Victoria said with a smile as she stretched her hand towards me to shake; I shook her hand even though I was confused by the sudden intention to shake her hand "How did you know what I wanted to say?" she asked me with a smile before releasing my hand and turning to face Morayo "You can leave if you know you are uncomfortable staying here" she said to her somewhat in a harsh way
Morayo ignored her and sighed "someone cannot complain again like that" she said as she looked away
"You can complain but not in a way that doesn't make any sense"
Lol! I immediately thought about myself. I was also complaining about not allowed to gist while service is going on. I also complained about the chapel being boring
I know I am in the wrong to think like that but, everyone has the right to like and not like.
