"Ready, get set, go!"
As soon as the announcer dropped those words, the inmates on the race started running. Even though the race just started, there was someone that was running faster than everyone else, leaving a big gap between him and the second place.
"Speedro really doesn't let anyone win against him."
"That guy had been dominating the race ever since he came here."
"He would've been faster if not for the restriction on our cufflinks."
"I heard that he will be released next month, what crime did he commit again?"
"When he was running towards the Awakened Special University's entrance exam, he seemed to have bumped into a Government Officer."
"That's the downside of having a speed skill, they are not able to see much in front of them when they run."
"If I could only see fleeting images when I run, I would certainly bump into someone."
'So that person also wants to enroll in ASU. Should I try and befriend him?'
Knowing that he could be a fellow schoolmate in the future, Eirik wanted to establish a friendship. Perhaps they could become best friends when the university starts.
When Speedro reached the finish line, he waited there alone for the other participant. Because the winner was already expected, no one was surprised and acted like it was normal.
"Speedro, inmate no. 50334, had won the race. You may now return to your cell or watch the next sports events."
As soon as the announcer finished talking, Speedro immediately went in front of the Gymnasium Door and waited for a warden that would escort him to his cell.
"Speedro really doesn't stay a minute more after he finishes the race."
"Well, he has been like that ever since he came here."
"If I was jailed for something simple, I also wouldn't want to make friends with other inmates."
"What crime did you do?"
"Me? I robbed a car and it turns out it was an official's personal car."
Looking at the back of Speedro leaving the Gymnasium, Eirik sighed. It's a pity that they couldn't even talk to each other.
With Speedro gone, it was as if an enthusiasm was brought back in the Gymnasium. When the other participant reached half of the race track, many spectators started cheering for their own pick.
"Get that second place, Damian!"
"The Second place is for you, Friro!"
Countless similar cheers echoed in the whole Gymnasium. It was as if the second placer had more worth than the first placer.
'Well, because the race for the first placer didn't have any thrill at all, their attention is towards who will become the second placer.'
Maybe this was the reason why there were still people participating in the race even though the first place was already decided.
Near the finish line, there were three people that were head to head. It was unknown who among them would be the second placer, suddenly one of them made a last dash just before the finish line and won.
"Well done Friro!"
"I knew you could do it!"
"The Second Place is yours Friro!"
Meanwhile, the other two received encouragement to try again next time.
"Don't mind."
"Try again next week, for sure you will win second place."
After the race, other individual events such as heavy lifting, javelin throw, archery etc. It was soon the group sports.
"Attention, everyone needs to play at least one event. Otherwise your meal for the next week will just be plain gruel... And for this week group sport is Soccer!"
'This sucks, I didn't plan to participate in any event after all.'
As a certified non athletic person, he really sucked in any kind of sport. But because he didn't want to eat gruel for a week before the trial, Eirik still tried to participate in one.
"Hmm... Soccer requires 22 people for the game. 11 people on each team... Should I become the goal keeper? I heard that they do almost nothing the whole game..."
After taking out all the equipment at the center of the race track, it now became a proper indoor soccer field.
While the prisoners were busy dragging out the equipment from the center of the field, 5 wardens came inside as referees for the game.
"Excuse me... Are you still looking for a goalkeeper? I can be one if you want."
Eirik first tried to ask a group of people that looked like they would participate in the game.
When a man, who seemed like the captain of the team, looked at the slim body of Eirik devoid of any muscles he hesitated. But because they were lacking some people and the time was limited, he agreed in the end. "Okay, you can be the goalkeeper."
"Thank you!"
Having found his team, Eirik went to line up with them in order to get their uniforms for the game. Even though they are just inmates, this was still an event prepared by the Government as an Entertainment for the prisoner.
All the uniforms for each game and equipment are high quality.
The uniform for the goalkeeper was an orange dri-fit paired with an orange short with white flare designs. He even had gloves of the same color.
Meanwhile, his teammates wore white t-shirt dry suits with orange flare design. Their shorts even matched their t-shirts.
Because they couldn't let the prisoners play with their worn out prisoner shoes, the wardens even provided cleats for them.
As for the opposite team, the players wore a style similar to Eirik but with shorter sleeves. While their goal keeper was the same as the field player of Eirik's team but with longer sleeves.
Eirik went to his position and waited for the game to start. He knew that goalkeepers are needed to stay in the goal and guard it, so he can just relax here without anything for the next 90 minutes.
However, even though he didn't need to do anything for now, he still assumed the proper stance of a goalkeeper and what the other side was doing.
He opened his legs, squatted a little and had his hands on his knees.
While he was thinking that it would be easy to keep the goal guarded for the whole game by doing nothing at all, not even after 5 minutes the game started, a powerful strike came directly at him.
The force was so strong that it seemed like it was being reinforced with something, and then something appeared before his eyes.
