Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: New World.

Using my mycelium, I continue to feed, I feel myself absorbing the nutrients from the structure, and slowly accumulating Biomass. My hunger seems insatiable as I consume the flesh, feeling myself becoming more and more full with each passing moment.

[You have gained one Biomass.]

It feels like days pass as I feed, before I feel my body begin to expand from the Biomass of the structure, but, the weirdest part is that it also feels like only minutes have passed.

[You have gained one Biomass.]

Going through the list of biomass upgrades it seems like some things are locked or hidden and to my surprise very customisable, I could have gotten four legs if I wanted to. I end up spending all my biomass on my arms and legs. Being human once is definitely something you can't get unused to, being more of a monster would have just been unnerving, right? or at least I hope so, I can't be losing all of my humanity here, not just yet at least.

[Would you like to purchase Hyphae Legs, Arms, an eye, and the skill Cell Harvesting?]

I thought I made my intentions obvious at this point but it looks like this system needs some sort of verbal confirmation to execute tasks. Yes! I say in my head with all my might.

I feel my body begin to uncomfortably sprout new growths, my limbs grow and I get a feeling of strength coming from them as my body takes on a more defined shape. The mushroom cap on top of my head begins to shimmer, and I feel myself gaining new abilities and powers. Finally able to see after what felt like a year of sitting in the darkness. With newfound strength, I push against the fleshy structure that has been my home for a couple years now, breaking free and stepping out into the world for the first time.

I soon came to an odd realization. It must be something natural for this species but I can't inhale air. At least in the traditional sense, the feeling of my lungs expanding is unnaturally missing but for some reason I can still feel the air enter my body. This is such a weird creature to be.

As if being moved through a dark tunnel my mind begins to feel what I can presume to be my eye finally being let open. It feels weird to me the eyes I had on earth could see so much more of an area then what I have now. With my hyphae eye I begin to look around. I realize that my whole body acts as a sensory organ for many different feelings that I used to naturally have in my human body. Feeling sounds is a new thing to me and almost causes a sensory overload to my mind, taking a few minutes to adjust to everything I find myself in a damp cave like structure full of what I presume to be my brethren mushroom. All of them bundled up on a pile of dead and decaying monster flesh. I wander around the dark cave for a bit and it looks like some kind of mother colony from where I hopped out of and from what I can tell, there are rotten monsters all over the place. I investigate the area some more and find that it looks abandoned for years. Stalactites hang like ancient chandeliers from the ceiling, some reaching down to touch the floor below. They seem to shimmer with a scattered luminescence, casting eerie shadows that dance and play across the rugged walls. The dampness in the air is palpable, leaving a slight moisture on my body, filling me with a refreshing coolness.

Finding nothing of value to me I travel out of the cavern. A dense forest, surrounded by towering trees and a lush undergrowth of fungi. It is as if the forest itself is alive, with a pulsing energy that I can sense all around me. The thick canopy of trees above greets me, blocking out most of the sunlight and casting dappled shadows on the forest floor. The leaves rustle gently in the breeze, creating a soothing sound that fills the ears. The air is cool and fresh, carrying the scent of damp earth, moss, and decaying leaves, which I ended up tasting through my hyphae. the diversity of the flora around astounding as if walking into a fantasy world. A plethora of trees stand tall and proud, each with their own unique bark textures and leaf shapes. Some of the trees are straight and tall, with smooth bark that is almost silver in color, while others have rough, gnarled trunks that are twisted and bent. The ground beneath my feet is soft and spongy, covered in a thick layer of moss that feels like a cushion beneath your feet.

As I try to adjust to my new body and surroundings, I can feel the gills of my cap and the hyphae filaments of my two-leg protrusion touching the moist earth beneath my feet. I almost begin to feel a connection to the forest and all the life that it supports, as if the hyphae of the souls of my feet begin to wander into the soil but hastily retract.

I take a step forward and feel the ground give slightly under my light-weight. I notice the abundance of fungi growing in the underbrush. Mushrooms of all shapes, sizes, and colors grow in clusters on the decaying wood, providing homes and food for a variety of creatures. Some are tiny and delicate, with caps the size of a fingernail, while others are massive, with caps the size of an elephant. The forest is alive with the sounds of wildlife, with the chirping of birds and the chattering of animals.

The forest seems to go on forever, with no clear end in sight. Each step I take brings new wonders and surprises, making it seem like a world all its own. The beauty and serenity of the forest is overwhelming, leaving me feeling awestruck and humbled by the natural world around me.

I slowly begin to feel surprised by my own strength and agility. I remember my skills and mutations from the status board in my mind and realize that I could be more capable of doing so much more than I thought.
