Ess harrumphed, grabbed Malven by the hair and pulled him to his feet. He then turned to Jibhawe.
"Where's the water reserve?" he asked.
The fat little man nodded furiously, and beckoned him to the back of the motel. He chattered nonstop along the way. Perhaps he thought that since Ess didn't offer as much pushback against his reasonings for supporting the Clean Riders' outrageous demands, he approved or was somewhat convinced.
Ess found the little man despicable, but not for moral reasons. Jibhawe thought he was subtle, but Ess could sense his every attempt to show Malven that he didn't approve of how Ess was treating him – dragging him along like some shameful prisoner.
