Chapter 32 - The small talk

JL Enterprise.

"Oppa…."

"Has the letter arrived?"

Min-young gives the envelope to Lay, their predictions seem to be correct, and NIS does as they say.

"I've asked the police who handling the case, she has to come by herself," said Min-young.

"That was the plan."

"Is there something I don't know? You know the company is starting to wonder what's going on."

"I can't say anything for now, I still have to wait for her."

"This has something to do with 5 years ago? I started to get suspicious when you told me to pick up Seon-mi."

"Min-young ah.."

"Yes, I understand."

Lay dialed a number. "What!?" shouted the person from behind the phone.

"What the hell, why yell at me? Did I do something wrong to you?"

"Just say it."

"You're the one causing problems in Korea, so if you have problems there and here, don't be mad at me."

"Hey hey hey, zip it. You are just talking around Lay. Say it."

"You need to come home now. Where's Sok-ji? I need to talk to him. He needs to go with you."

"Call him by yourself, he's not here."

"Why?"

"We're kinda in a bad situation, he's leaving my mansion."

"He's what!? What are you doing Sun?"

"Hey, why is it my fault?"

"Oh, actually I do positive it is your fault. Because last time I knew about him, he's not walking around with anyone."

"Wow… So now you are accusing me of cheating on him?"

"Well, you said it. It means you admit it."

"Oh my God. Is the letter arrived?"

"It is."

"Then send me so I can come home."

"Make up your mind, and try to find some shit word to explain to him."

"That's kinda my business and you don't need to do anything about that."

"Do you think I want to be involved in your relationship? I'm not Sun. I'm trying to make more money for you and your company."

"JL Enterprise it's yours, not mine. I have my own and I am still trying to save all of the money that went away when our stocks are falling like the rain."

"Oh my God. I have forgotten how hard it is talking to you. What the hell happened? Why are you talking like this? You aren't a bitch."

"Just call him Lay. I sent one of my best guys. He's safe."

"This is not about whether he is safe or not. He can protect himself."

"What were you trying to say? Why does it feel like I'm the one who is wrong here."

"Are you?"

Lay turned off his cell phone and left the room, but what he saw was that Min-young was there. His face didn't look good, he already knew something was strange yesterday.

"Min-young.."

"Go away, I don't know what to say. If your biggest reason is to protect me, I give up."

"You know I never wanted to involve you in this, because I didn't know when suddenly things would turn against me, and it might be harm for you."

"It may be true that half of this company belongs to her, but that doesn't mean I'm useless here. I built this company together with you when she didn't care and stayed at home. Even if you shut me out of all trouble, I will still be involved."

"Min-young ah, why are you talking like that?"

"Because that's what you always do, as soon as her name is mentioned, as soon as you get a call from her, my existence is just your business partner.

"You know I never did, you know I never thought of you like that. I can't get you involved, I have to keep you safe."

Min-young raised her hand and gave up the battle of words with Lay because he and Sunny had one thing in common, namely, being difficult to talk to.

"Fine. do whatever you want. If you don't want me to get involved with any of this, then I won't. But this is the last time you treat me like this."

"I'm sorry Min-young ah."

"Just Go."

Lay immediately left his office, but Min-young was still there. He picked up the figures on the table, one was an engagement photo of the two of them, and another was a photo of Lay, Sunny, and Jin.

"She's with someone else now, and you too, why can't you get over it now? Why can't you see me like you see her?"

K-4 Building

Lay got into the elevator and pressed the 25th floor, the top floor where there was only one elevator that could go directly there.

Equipped with an access card. Even if people find where the elevator is, they cannot open the elevator if the access card is not permitted.

Lay opened the door to the office on the 25th floor, only Min-tae was there who was still reading some things.

"don't you get some sleep?" Lay asked.

"Said someone who said he had to go to Japan last night."

"Yeah, I sent someone else there."

"I'm sure she must have made something burdensome for you."

"Well, it's her. Have you had breakfast?"

"I don't think so, I just got through all these documents, trying to remember what happened 5 years ago. Why'd you come?"

Lay took out a letter from his coat pocket. "This came this morning. I think you know what this is, right?"

Min-tae took the letter from Lay's hand and read it for a while. "This just arrived? NIS can get the police to issue this subpoena."

"Ah, hyung, what are you doing here?" Jae-young asked.

Min-tae waved what he was holding. "A warrant for Soo-hee has arrived. I'll call someone first."

Lay took out a credit card from his wallet. "Jae-young, this is for your needs, I might not be able to come here every day."

"Gomawo sajangnim..." he said while accepting the black credit card with both hands.

"Hyung, who will manage this building?" he asked again.

"I don't think I can answer it. Hey, forget it for a second, do you know what happened with those two?"

"Something happened at the Mansion, their former director brought people to attack, and after that, I took care of their security system. It's just finished. I haven't heard anything else. Why? Something wrong?"

"Before I came here, I talked to her, I think they were fighting and Sok-ji is not at the Mansion."

"He's not? Are you sure?"

"Pretty sure I am. Check his GPS."

Jae-young turns to his computer to try to see Sok-ji's position via GPS and sure enough, he is not at the Kang Mansion anymore, but in a hotel.

"Sok-ji is at the hotel. What's wrong with those two?"

"That's why I asked you, I thought you knew what happened."

"Sok-ji not at Soo-hee's house?" Tae-guk asked.

"Ah, you're awake. Yes, I checked the GPS on his cellphone, and he wasn't at the mansion."

"Oh, have you seen Soo-hee's house fire interview?" Tae-guk asked.

"I came to deliver a letter, came this morning," answered Lay.

"Min-tae?"

Min-tae heard his name called and waved his hand but still made the call.

"You investigated it?" Min-tae asked.

"I told you, I might not be able to participate in the investigation. This morning, investigators suddenly issued a subpoena. Do you know anything?"

"Yeah, I think I know what happened. Who is the investigator responsible?"

"Nam Joo-suk. Honestly, I'm a little worried about him. He got to this position is a bit suspicious."

"You mean?"

"I can't say what makes me suspicious. But I'll try to keep an eye on him today. You guys think about how to get her home safely."

"Okay, thanks."

Min-tae finishes his call and returns with his team. Tae-guk, Jae-young, and Lay hope that what happens now can bring Sunny home.

"So how?" Lay asked.

"It looks like the NIS was the one who issued the subpoena. The police said that suddenly this morning the subpoena for her came out," answered Min-tae.

"Lee Chang and Myun-shik?"

Min-tae shook his head. "Not them, Lee Chang has said from the start that the possibility of him holding onto this case is very small."

"So who's holding it?" Tae-guk asked.

"A special crimes criminal detective, Nam Joo-suk."

"So what do you think? Shall we continue or not?" Lay asked.

"We have to move on, we all want her home right?"

"But hyung, I don't think it's that easy to get her to come home."

"You mean?"

"After you came home something happened at his house and it involved these 3 people," Jae-young showed a photo of 3 people throwing a rage when she took over the company.

Min-tae approaches the screen as does Tae-guk, both of whom are still quite confused about what happened to Sunny.

"Who are they?" Min-tae asked.

Lay took a deep breath. He knew who they were and what they had done in the past few months. "The three of them are directors who support Kang Mirae, aka Soo-hee's mother."

"Then where is the problem?" Tae-guk asked.

"Soo-hee's mansion was attacked using heavy weapons, the three of them were probably the ones who also sent snipers to injure Soo-hee," answered Lay.

"Soo-hee is in a company with super tight security and even her house is not safe, especially since she has to travel for a long period," said Jae-young.

"Min-tae, what do you think? We ask for Jong-gi's help?" he asked.

Min-tae shook his head. "Our plan from the start was to send Soo-hee home, we have to calculate all the risks. But if the NIS takes her back, I don't think that's good either."

"But the risk if Sunny gets hurt is that two companies will come down. DFK and JL Enterprise. I'm going to go crazy if that happened," Lay tried to predict what would happen.

"Believe it or not, but thousands of people's life depends on how we handle these things."

"Ah, what if we use the NIS method when they bring Keil back to the U.S.," said Jae-young.

"You mean?" Lay asked.

"The CIA still needs Soo-hee for these 3 people, that means if Soo-hee has to go to Seoul we can ask the CIA to escort her departure, right? After she arrives in Seoul, we and the NIS will take over."

"Okay, that can be done, but what about the matter of his father's will? She can't leave the company," asked Lay.

"Ah, the Will," Jae-young regretted that he forgot that one factor.

"The letter said that he could not sell or merge with other companies, but this time Soo-hee has an official letter to carry out an investigation, she should be able to leave, or if she can't, there are other ways," said Tae-guk.

"What other way?"

"Just bring one of the directors or a lawyer from DFK, ensuring that Soo-hee will still come home after this is all over."

Everyone fell silent. They fell silent as if they agreed with the idea. Finally, they each grabbed their cell phones.

"I will contact the police to ask for a time," said Lay.

"I'll call Soo-hee," Jae-young immediately put on his headphones.

"I'll let Jongi-gi know," Min-tae answered.

Tae-guk went to the coffee pot poured coffee and sat back while enjoying his coffee.
