As Fika ended Wilhelm's friends gathered themselves to return to class and resume studying. But the forest incident was still fresh in their minds. He couldn't shake off the feeling of worry for the female student who got attacked.
Turning towards the classroom Wilhelm broke the silence. The event in the forest was bugging him a lot. He spoke. "The forest incident keeps going through my head. It is so unreal. The realization of the risk we were in, unknowingly. And how close, really." Sofia nodded in silence. "It's a kind reminder," she said. "We need to always have our feelers out. What's beneath our feet needs to be our concern. Especially out in nature."
Then Sebastian had something to say. "Another reminder, if you will, is to consider wildlife with respect. Remember our invasions into their domains. Crucial is our responsibility. But we can't discard prevention."
Lena chimed in. "What do you think about Sweden's wolf population?"
Wilhelm's eyes were thoughtful. "It is a complex matter. On the one hand, wolves are an integral part of the eco-system without which health cannot be attained in the environment. But on the other hand, they are a potential danger to people and livestock."
Sofia across the table chimed in, "I think it's a matter of balance. We need to find out how we can coexist with wolves without endangering ourselves or harming them."
Sebastian nodded echoing agreement. "Education and understanding are of utmost importance. Understanding of wolves and their nature. Once we know more, we can make rules to protect ourselves. Goal is to avoid encounters."
Wilhelm said, "At the end of the day humans need to stay out if wolf danger zones. We need to respect their territory, walk around in the middle of nowhere with caution." The group agreed to this. They have to be mindful that there could be some wildlife in the area. They would arrange to see the girl between classes for lunch. Purpose is to support her.
