Chereads / Kaiser of the New World / Chapter 275 - Wrath

Chapter 275 - Wrath

Kai couldn't believe what he was seeing.

No, he really couldn't. At first, he had chalked it down to the fact he was suffering from severe blood loss and the fact he was in so much pain that it made sense that he would begin to imagine things.

What he was watching ended up being reality though.

Petunia really had summoned a demon from the deepest pits of hell, a demon that did characteristically seem like her mother considering she kept calling it Mommy and it had tenderly pat her head.

But that wasn't even the most absurd part of the whole thing, no, the most crazy part was the level of the demon she had summoned.

Demon of Wrath

Level 122

Kai genuinely could not believe what he was seeing. Petunia, the small child he had been trying to protect this entire time, turned out to be way, way stronger than him.

Well, she wasn't, her summon was, but they were one and the same.

The demon she had summoned was exactly 100 levels higher than her. Kai wasn't sure if that was a coincidence or not, but it was still absurd considering that his Innate Ability only worked for up to 10 levels above him and Contract of Artemis had a limit of 15 levels.

So for Petunia to be able to summon something 100 levels higher than her...

Just what the hell was going on?!

Holding back from coughing up another mouthful of blood, Kai bit his lip and watched as the fight unfolded.

Petunia's mother's fist collided with the Yeti's face, making it contort around the blow as saliva was sent flying in the air. One of the beast's teeth came loose with the blow, but did not come out entirely.

Blinking in shock, the Yeti roared as they sent their own punch at the blood-red demon, which she masterfully adjusted her head to just barely dodge it before launching another punch at the gargantuan beast's gut.

Petunia's mother moved with the refined finesse of a trained boxer, while the Yeti moved like a wild animal, which it was. The Yeti possessed much more Strength, while the Demon of Wrath had much more technique in each of their attacks.

It was a perfect showdown. Strength versus technique.

Petunia's mother landed yet another blow on the Yeti's large chest, creating tiny crater on the dense flesh. Her fist was much more powerful than any attack Kai would be able to conjure up, with Equilibrium maybe being the only exception if he were to charge it to its full power.

But the Yeti was even stronger, and also had abilities that didn't rely on just strength alone.

Reeling back from the blow, the Yeti howled and lifted its arm, bits of ice swirling around it, forming something.

It was creating another spear of ice, only it finished forming this one in a few seconds. It was much weaker than the previous ones it created, so Kai didn't know what it was planning.

Seemingly realising what the Yeti was about to do, Petunia's mother ducked and lunged forward, aiming to close the distance and not give the Yeti any space to throw the spear.

But when she done so, the Yeti... grinned?

Its arm quickly rotated, changing actions from a throwing one to more of a stabbing one. The beast's arm descended like a guillotine, the tip of the spear aimed directly at the ground.

Right where the Demon of Wrath had just placed its foot.

Petunia's Mother shrieked madly as the spear of ice impaled her foot, allowing the Yeti to start wailing on her.

Both of its fists turned into a blur, both of them aiming to batter the demon so it wouldn't be able to fight back. The strength behind each blow was titanic, but the demon did not let up.

She held strong, managing to block majority of the attacks with her large and powerful forearms. Whatever she couldn't block, she simply tanked, enduring all the pain for the sake of her daughter.

Continuing its relentless assault on the demon, the air beside the Yeti began to shimmer as another spear of ice was being formed. It swirled, condensing into the same stick that had been impaled into its foes foot.

Whipping one of its hands back to grip onto the spear, the Yeti gave the demon one last powerful punch before roaring and swinging its arm around.

Only instead of targeting the battered demon...

It targeted the blonde haired child it was protecting.

Realising what was about to happen, Petunia's mother shrieked and pulled her foot with all her might. Her flesh ripped, getting torn apart by the spear as she pulled her foot free, leaving a gaping hole.

Then, at the last moment, she threw her body to the side.

The spear pierced the back of her left shoulder, going straight through her body. It would have gone straight through her if she didn't grab the spear with both her hands as it emerged from the front of her shoulder.

Shrieking, she pulled the spear out of her, leaving another wide hole in her body.

She turned around, her slimy tongue lolling out of her mouth as she faced the Yeti.

Screeching, Petunia's mother crushed the spear in her hands before charging at the Yeti. The wounds in her shoulder and foot began to close at the same time, both of them regenerating at an astonishing speed as they continued their brutal clash.

The fight slowly began to turn fuzzy, Kai's vision getting hazy as he coughed up some more blood, nearly choking on it in the process.

To be honest... He didn't feel the pain anymore. It was a strange sort of peace, a numbness of sorts. It was like every external source around him had been cut off, leaving just Kai and Kai alone.

His own perfect nirvana.

Oh... dying is surprisingly peaceful.

A soft smile started forming on his face, his eyes slowly closing as he just wasn't able to keep them open any longer. The intense battle in front of him slipped away. It was a shame he wouldn't be able to find out who won, but he desperately hoped that Cecilia and Petunia would survive.

A strange feeling clouded Kai's mind for a second. He thought that there was someone in the distance for a moment, but as soon as he felt it, the moment disappeared.

Feeling that, Kai couldn't help but jokingly curse his Master. He wasn't sure if he had actually sensed them or not, how absurd would that be, a low leveled person like him sensing a God, but he was still disappointed that they didn't at least pay him a visit while he was on his death bed.

It was the bare minimum they could have done.

But it's not like it mattered any more anyway, Kai had less than a minute left in his life anyway. The only reason he had survived this long despite his internal organs practically being destroyed was because he hadn't deactivated any of his skills or his fusion. If he had, the sudden drop in Constitution would have killed him.

It had been a fun journey, one that he had enjoyed. He had met some great people, people that he wouldn't forget.

It was just a shame he wouldn't be able to see them aga-

Kai's thought was cut short when he felt something wet fall onto his cheek, snapping him out of his peaceful limbo and started bringing him back to reality.

Frowning, Kai opened his eyes, only to realise that he couldn't see properly. He could faintly make out Cecilia looking down at him, and then he realised what was falling on his cheek.

Her tears.

It flattered him that she was so emotional about his death, but he would rather that she go help Petunia.

... Actually, that was a lie, Kai didn't want to be alone right now.

"...e?"

It was selfish, but having his head rest on Cecilia's lap while he slipped into the afterlife wasn't exactly a bad way to go. All of the pain had left his body, so he didn't really feel anything anymore.

"W... ou... y... e?"

Kai frowned again.

Was it just him, or was Cecilia's mouth moving?

Suddenly, Kai began to start hearing the things around him again. The main thing he could hear was the intense clash between Petunia's mother and the Yeti, but there was something else he could hear.

It was Cecilia's voice, but he couldn't exactly make out what she was saying, even though she was practically shouting at him, trying to get him to wake up a little.

Kai groaned.

What could be so important that she wouldn't just let him die without hearing it? The worst part was, he couldn't even properly hear her.

His hearing had abandoned him. Her shouting was futile, he couldn't understand.

Until, finally, a whisper of cold wind carried her voice into his ear, cradling the sentence carefully, as if it was scared to damage it.

Kai finally heard what Cecilia was struggling to say, her voice breaking with every word.

And when he did, he nearly coughed out in shock.

"Will you marry me?!"
