Having received clear instructions Gael teleported to Trevinia. It was already evening and the view of the sun setting was breathtaking but he wasn't here to admire the sunset but rather on a mission. Making his way into the family's mansion he compelled everyone to fall asleep and all the guards outside before hurrying to find the grave.
A memorial stone had been placed on Lord Maxton's grave. He quickly dug out the casket and filled the grave with rocks and soil. When he was done he placed the large memorial stone on top just as it had been placed - thanks to his super strength .
Once back in the Kingshill Citadel he opened the casket which was covered in soil. The smell was pungent and he wrinkled his nose, he felt disgusted.Gael took the skull out of the casket. It was as hairy as it could be and with long nails. It nearly scared him yet he wasn't one to be scared easily.
Queen Mazarine was more than happy to receive the news.
"I owe you big Gael."
Now all that was left was for the witch to cast the spell. Her baby girl would be peaceful once again. The moment she had been eagerly been waiting for was here.
Healing for Fiona.
"Let's get this done with." And with that she led the way to Gianna's room.
Gael knocked on the door softly.
Who was it now? Gianna was just getting engrossed in reading the spell book Gael had provided her with despite knowing she couldn't cast any of the spells in the book. Oddly enough, she didn't find being a witch that evil now. As a matter of fact it she thought witching skills were useful. She had read that some witches even used their magic to heal the sick.
How compassionate!
She couldn't help but wish she was one of those good witches. She would have treated all her patients and speeded up their healing process with her magic. A second knock interrupted her wishful thinking.
She had just stood up when the door opened and Queen Mazarine and Gael entered. She was about to ask them what they wanted from her instead of finding Lord Maxton's hair when she took notice of what Gael was holding and she froze. The spell book fell from her trembling hands as the pungent smell intoxicated her nostrils
This surely couldn't be happening. She felt paralyzed to the spot as sweat dampened her dark hair. She was surely imagining this. She stared unblinkingly in a catatonic stupor.
"You don't look impressed by my finding." Gael remarked but Gianna didn't reply. Her bottle green eyes opened wide with hysteria.
Her fear and confusion was palpable.
"Why do you seem scared?" Queen Mazarine was surprised. If anyone should be scared then it was her because she was the only human in there.
As if Gianna hadn't already figured that out, Gael explained to her what he was carrying triumphantly.
"Lord Maxton's skull, full of hair and not just the few strands of his hair that you asked for."
How had they gotten it?
He was surely cremated, wasn't he? Gianna was sure he had been cremated. Her grandmother had attended the funeral and had told her that Lord Maxton's death had been an accident. He had fallen from his horse and hit his head hard on a rock and died. So he had surely been cremated.
Unless that wasn't the true cause of his death and his family had lied to pay respect to him. But why?
No, that couldn't be his skull.
"Are...are you sure Gael? That could belong to anyone else?" She managed to say before the words could be frozen in her throat.
"Just get to work." Gael said ignoring her question placing the skull in her hands.
Suddenly her vision went fuzzy and black. She couldn't be holding a skull in her hands.
When she woke up she was laying on her bed, confused and scared. She just hoped it was a nightmare. But Queen Mazarine's glare and Gael towering above her confirmed that it wasn't a nightmare. She had to face the truth.
"I ...I...can explain."
