Chapter 190 - What's Necessary to Survive

As a mere spectator, one might think that ending the life of a dark entity could be something simple, a mere action done for a greater purpose, and in a way, they are right about one thing. But associating the deaths of dark entities with innocent people is also a correct way of thinking. All those people in the building are the answer to that question.

Anton feels nothing at the moment of eliminating a dark entity; there was nothing on his mind when performing a mission. He didn't think about the need to return alive from this mission because, in a way, he knows that no matter where he goes or what he faces, he can come back alive, but he can't say the same for the people who accompany him.

Once the mission is over, the mental struggle begins. Anton can't bear that feeling of indifference when killing people. For him, a mission is a battlefield and nothing more.

This time there were children; a priest had experimented with a cursed virus on innocent children. Many people don't like children, but they must know that with proper education, they are truly angels.

"Maintain order for the public; it would be a disaster if we don't give a realistic explanation of why martial law is in place in Barcelona."

While everyone was working, Anton, after disinfecting himself, burning his clothes, and taking a shower with appropriate chemicals to avoid infection, was eating quietly in a corner without bothering anyone.

There were many technical things to solve, but as it wasn't his forte, he decided not to get involved.

...

Poblenou Cemetery.

"Sir, all the victims have been buried. Don't you want to go and offer some prayers for their rest?" Alexander approached Anton, who was standing at the entrance of a cemetery.

Anton looked at Alexander and said, "I don't understand why... They are just soulless bodies; their lives are not here. I see so many people crying in places like these, making it seem like death is something bad, and that's not true. Don't you think it was better for those children to die?"

"What I think is not important..." Alexander was left speechless by Anton's statements.

"Don't make your opinion irrelevant; you're an exorcist, so you have the right to say what you really feel."

"Well, the truth is... no one knows how to stop the evil that we humans generate. At least as exorcists, we know that dark entities are deadly by their origin, but humans are sometimes more savage than the dark entities we face."

Anton looked at Alexander, who had realized the harsh reality that a good exorcist always faces. "Don't be afraid..."

"Archbishop..." Alexander clenched his fists, trying to contain his emotions.

"You're afraid; a good man can feel fear... If I had a vulnerable mother or father, I would surely fear that they would become victims of a dark entity." Anton spoke these words sincerely; he truly couldn't live so lightly knowing that they could get hurt.

Anton was conflicted about everything; right now, he would sacrifice his life to stop the dark entities, but a part of him says it's not worth it. Letting humans suffer? Many of them deserve punishments in one way or another; others need justice, and many others will need a little push to take everything that truly belongs to them.

"Death is eternal rest; we will rest from this world when we die, Sir Alexander... Both you and we will rest; we deserve it, I believe." Anton smiled as he lit a cigarette.

After trying that cigarette that didn't bring him any pleasure, Anton said, "You're a good man, but don't hurt yourself trying to save everyone, or you'll die too soon. Remember that if you die saving one life, more than a hundred lives waiting for your help will die. If you do the math, you'll understand the meaning of my words."

"Thank you, Archbishop..." Alexander thanked him, feeling much better and grateful to know more about what Anton thought about this life they had to live.

"We'll return in a few days if everything is under control here." Anton said as he walked away to clear his mind.

There was nothing more to do; it was discovered that there were other outbreaks of the same dark entity, but with the recommendation of martial law, everything was resolved within hours by the quick response agents of the light association.

Having eliminated all the privela, Anton had nothing more to do here, so he preferred to leave.

There were other places where he was needed, numerous dark entities that needed to be eliminated, and many families who needed a visit to alleviate their problems.

Now that the Vatican is in trouble, unless they completely relinquish control over dark entities, Spain will be in the terrible situation of having to impose non-public sanctions on this organization, even if they are the heart of a huge religion.
