Anton walked ahead, and when he realized that trouble was happening right in the room they were heading to, he furrowed his brow. "It looks like we're late." Alexander looked at the nurses who were coming out of the room with panicked expressions, unsure of what to do.
When Anton looked inside the room, he saw a woman lying on the floor in a pool of her own blood coming from her throat. Realizing they were a step behind, they knew that if they had arrived earlier, they might have had a chance to change this in some way.
Alexander didn't get too close; he looked at the motionless woman and asked, "What do we do now?"
"Get the doctors out of here; I just want to be sure." Anton entered the room without paying attention to the people who were trying unsuccessfully to help the dead girl.
Looking at the woman sitting in the corner of the room, Anton could assume she was the doctor who was attending to the girl, and according to previous patterns, she would be the next victim.
Anton approached her and asked, "Look me in the eyes, take a deep breath, and exhale calmly. Did she commit suicide in front of your eyes?"
The doctor named Rose nodded repeatedly; she showed many signs of shock, so it would be a waste of time to try to interact with her.
"Alright, I'm a detective, so I'll need to talk to you. Do you want to leave now and let others take over?" Anton reached out to the trembling woman, and she nodded.
Everyone didn't know how the detectives had arrived so quickly, but knowing that this situation was very delicate, they complied and waited according to their requests.
Passing by Alexander, Anton looked at the woman's corpse and said, "Take her to the morgue; the forensic team should be arriving soon, so you should know how to handle them."
"I'll take care of all the preparations, sir." Alexander nodded, and after looking at the woman's body, he sighed with slight discomfort.
Anton walked towards the exit while covering Rose's body, who seemed very affected by it; this was normal given the nature of the experience, so after leaving the room, they headed to an office where they could talk more calmly.
When everyone saw the calmness with which these detectives were handling the problem, they truly thought they were professionals, so following the procedure for these types of cases, they waited for the rest of the help to arrive.
...
"It must have been very shocking, and I'm sure you don't want to talk now, but I think after half an hour, you've fully recovered." Anton looked at Rose, who hadn't spoken a word.
It had been a long time since he had gone through these types of procedures, so reluctantly, Anton said, "Did she mention anything before taking her life?"
Rose looked at Anton's calm expression and couldn't understand how he was so indifferent to this situation. She nodded silently.
"What did she say?" Anton became interested as he realized it was time for interrogation.
Rose, with a trembling voice, said, "She mentioned that... She repeatedly mentioned that something dark was following her."
"Did she mention a name or any noteworthy aspect?" Anton's expression remained unchanged.
"She only mentioned that it was smiling, a smile that was not friendly at all but terrifying."
Knowing they were dealing with the same case and with the connection to all the dozens of previous deaths, Anton supposed that Rose was now marked by the demon. However, the problem was making her believe that in her current emotional state.
Realizing that wouldn't be effective, Anton was sensitive with his words and said, "I'm investigating a series of cases where the victims commit suicide. You may not understand right now, but I'm sure you'll come looking for me when you don't have answers to your problems."
"What are you talking about?" Rose looked at Anton's business card, realizing only now that he wasn't actually a detective.
Anton smiled slightly and said, "Forgive me for not telling you everything now, but if I do, you'll take me as just another one of your patients, so I prefer not to."
Just as he was about to leave the room, Rose looked at Anton and said, "She mentioned you before; she noticed that purple cross on your chest and said that the fun would become a bit more bitter."
Anton smiled at this but didn't say anything; he intended to work with Rose's needs and not waste energy trying to convince her.
"What are we going to do with her?" Alexander approached Anton as soon as he left the room.
Anton looked at the closed door and said, "Assign a duo of agents to watch her from afar without being noticed; at least we need to know where she is and what she's doing these days."
Alexander immediately relayed the orders to two agents to start the operation. Knowing that they were now hoping for Rose to start experiencing the symptoms that a demon causes in its victims, Anton knew they would have some days of free time.
"Will we be working around here?"
"Of course, evil exists everywhere."
