Chereads / Priest, Pray For Us / Chapter 17 - Facing Evil

Chapter 17 - Facing Evil

When the entire place was fully operational and a group of people were monitoring the surroundings of the safe area, Brad looked at Priest Anton sitting on the sofa. Then, his eyes fixed on the weapon named "Evil Spirit Devastator." He pulled Drew, who was beside him, and whispered, "What did you guys talk about earlier? Don't play games with me; tell me."

Drew looked at the police officer with confusion in his eyes. "What did I say?"

"I remember you mentioning that evil spirits cannot be killed with weapons, but have you seen what those two people have in their hands?" Brad gestured with his eyes towards the shotguns the two priests had been silent about all this time.

Drew was also puzzled by this. Even Ed and Lorraine didn't have a convincing explanation for it, but neither of them denied that Anton actually had the ability. "They are not normal priests of the Christian church. If you look at those golden books, you'll know that they are not tied to a specific belief. Maybe it has something to do with the Light Association."

When Drew said these words, he inevitably looked at Ed and Lorraine again, who hadn't separated. So, he whispered to them, "Mr. Ed, who exactly are Priest Anton and his assistant? Are they really priests?"

Ed and Lorraine looked at each other. They knew much more about the Light Association because they were the ones handling paranormal cases instead of the church, as was customary. No one exactly knew why the Light Association took on most cases, but each of its members was absolutely professional, regardless of their methods.

"I made a call to the church to confirm, and it's correct that Mr. Anton has jurisdiction over this entire area. He handles exorcism cases and paranormal rumors here. Rest assured that, no matter what you see, Priest Anton has the skills to handle it. We're lucky to have him because he is a ShadowBane, a family that used to hunt mythological monsters and is now the top exorcist in the world."

Drew asked in surprise, "Does Mr. Anton come from an influential family?"

In his thoughts, the Warrens had so much experience in paranormal cases that the usual procedure was to call the church to send a priest to handle things that couldn't be resolved. For such an extravagant priest as Anton to arrive so quickly, it meant that things were really significant.

Lorraine nodded and said, "You may only be connected to the paranormal world, but out there, it is said that there are werewolves, vampires, elves, and other incredibly magical beings that can exterminate hundreds of people before the Light Association becomes aware of their existence."

Upon hearing these words, everyone who was immersed in anxiety was left very confused by what Lorraine had said.

At that moment, Anton was looking outside, wondering how long it would take for the night to fall.

It was already late when they arrived, but after focusing on preparing this place, the outside light had turned into an orange sunset.

At this moment, the sun was casting its last rays of illumination.

"It will all begin in approximately half an hour." Anton squinted his eyes and looked around seriously. Everything was silent, and there was no movement at all, but he could feel the resentment increasing as time passed. He could even sense that the spirits here were not welcoming him and Rafael, who was closer to the safe zone.

While Anton walked, he soon sat back down, but at that moment, he felt someone touch his back. He turned around and saw a little girl looking at him with curiosity. This was Roger's youngest daughter, who had been photographed walking with closed eyes in the darkness.

"Hey! Christine..." Roger called to his daughter from the side, fearing that she would bother the priest, who had asked them to be quiet. However, Anton gave him a look as if to say not to say anything.

Seeing Christine being so innocent, Anton signaled for her to come closer and whispered, "Do you think any of them are your friends?"

Anton is aware that some evil spirits are the souls of normal people and have no harmful intentions. Regarding the harassment, it could be due to their instinct to appear in front of humans. However, dead souls are not human beings after all, and being able to retain some consciousness is considered dangerous. As for dead souls that retain full consciousness and have intelligence, he has not encountered them yet.

Upon hearing Anton's question, the girl seemed to be thinking a lot but then nodded seriously.

"Um!"

"Do you only have one friend like them?" Anton asked, trying to learn more.

Christine nodded again and asked, "But you still haven't answered; will you hurt my friend?"

As soon as these words were spoken, Roger's family behind them closely watched Anton for any reaction.

Anton looked at them and recalled that the boy following Beth in the photo was suspected to be the ghost of the mysteriously disappeared child. Therefore, he thought and replied seriously, "No, I will only grant eternal rest, so that they can be happy."

In the end, the goal is also to alleviate the resentment of evil spirits affected by the living. Resentment sometimes becomes so great that intervention is necessary to cleanse that resentment. Unlike demons from hell, evil spirits are just fragments of resentment left in life.

Little Christine didn't understand; she just blinked, looking at the adults in front of her. For her, as long as it didn't harm her friend, that was fine.

"Now go with your parents and don't leave their side; come on."

Little Christine, who had received a satisfactory answer, obediently nodded and ran to where her parents were. Carolyn embraced her and regretted that her family had to go through all of this.

This scene unfolded before Anton's eyes, making him feel that he was doing his job well if it was for people like them.

As the sky darkened and the temperature dropped, the resentment in the house became stronger.

This is when evil spirits are at their strongest. But stimulated by a large amount of holy water and crosses, these evil spirits felt threatened.

Naturally, evil hates anything associated with good, especially evil spirits like Bathsheba.

When Anton stood up, Rafael followed him, drawing everyone's attention.

Ed was the first to speak. "Priest Anton, do you need my help?"

Anton held his shotgun in his right hand and shook his head as he stepped out of the established safe zone. "You take care of the children; we'll handle this."

Ed unconsciously looked at Roger's family and then nodded. Professional matters should be handled by professionals. He also knew his own abilities. If the priest couldn't handle it, he couldn't help in any way.

Anton turned his gaze to Officer Brad, who stood up. In normal situations, the police sought the assistance of exorcist priests, so he asked, "Brad, do you know how to use a shotgun?"

Upon hearing this, Brad's eyes lit up, and he nodded seriously. "Definitely, I can shoot!"

Anton pointed to a backpack and said, "Stay behind us and shoot where we shoot. Cover our backs, and if you see anything moving, shoot without hesitation."

Although the help may not make a big difference, Anton wanted at least someone to witness what he and Rafael would do in the house. So he called the police officer who was directly under his orders. This also made Anton feel that it was a pity. It would be perfect if anyone could confront entities that only exorcist priests could see.

"If necessary, shoot into the air based on your instincts."

Brad firmly gripped the shotgun and said seriously, "This is my thing, Priest Anton!"

Anton nodded and then lowered his gaze from everyone, walking toward the side of the stairs directly.

According to the oral account of the Roger family, this is where the mother died. The basement is obviously a place where a certain medium can be activated.

Following the path beside the stairs to the end, Anton stopped at the door to the right.

In the quiet space, a creaking sound was heard, and when the small door opened, a chill and a rotten smell reached Anton's perception.

In the dimness, Anton rubbed his nose and looked at the stairs descending to the bottom of the basement, hung a cross on the small door, and went down first, followed by Rafael, who didn't hesitate to descend.

"May God protect us..." Brad muttered as he also descended.
