Chapter 11 - The Survivor on the Fifth Floor!

"Is she passed out from hunger? Or from fright?"

Ray muttered to himself, not thinking too much about it. He stepped forward, lifted her from the cabinet, carried her on his shoulder, supporting her with one hand and holding a dagger in the other, staying alert.

Two minutes later, he returned to the home textile store in the furniture city and placed her on a bed, then left her alone.

"Let's fill up the stomach first."

Seeing that the girl wouldn't wake up anytime soon, Ray touched his still very hungry stomach and headed to the nearby snack area, only a few meters away. He filled a bag with a large amount of snacks, as well as bottled water and beverages.

He then went to the food section, filling another bag with bread, cakes, instant noodles, and other food items. As for rice and noodles, which needed to be cooked before eating, he didn't bother with them for the time being.

Then, he returned to the home textile store, came to the girl's side, leaned on a sofa nearby, and started wolfing down the food.

The few pieces of bread he had earlier weren't even enough to fill the gaps between his teeth.

Before he had traveled to this place, he was already starving and was about to go eat.

But after arriving here, he hadn't even had a sip of water before the apocalypse hit, leaving no time to eat, and there was nothing to eat even if he wanted to.

Until now, it had been a day, including the time before the travel, more than a day had passed.

Of course, if it were a normal day, staying in the dormitory without exerting any physical effort, not eating or drinking for a day wouldn't matter.

But now, from the moment he arrived, he hadn't rested for a moment!

"Damn, the amount of physical activity today, even if I stayed at school for a month, I probably wouldn't reach this level."

He unscrewed a bottle of mineral water, took a few gulps, shook his head, and sighed.

...

The fifth floor of the Daxi Street supermarket is a dining area. Although its scale cannot compare with the food city across the street, it still has several stores.

In addition, the surveillance room is also on this level.

At this moment, the twenty or so survivors on the fifth floor were gathered in a store far from the staircase, enjoying a lavish dinner in the apocalypse, something unimaginable to others.

They got various types of seafood and fish from the supermarket's seafood section, and pork, beef, and lamb from the meat section. The table was filled with meat dishes, with hardly a vegetarian option in sight.

The feast was spread over several tables, one of which was occupied by five men, all around thirty years old.

One man with a scarred face casually picked up a piece of meat with his chopsticks, stuffed it into his mouth, and asked the chubby man beside him, "Xi Ge, where could she run to in this chaos? It was so hectic, how could she just disappear in the blink of an eye?"

"Run? Haha... Given the situation now, it's more likely bad than good. It's not impossible she got eaten, alas, such a pity..." The chubby man, referred to as Xi Ge, crossed his legs, took a drag from his cigarette, and shook his head.

"That's not necessarily true. I saw her running to the second floor at that time, which was relatively safe then," another man, wearing beach shorts and with a buzz cut, disagreed shaking his head.

"Yes, the zombies first attacked the first floor, and the second floor wasn't too chaotic at that time," another man wearing glasses nodded in agreement.

Listening to their conversation, the last man, who was very burly and had been silent, looked towards another table where several people were eating.

"Who's in charge of the surveillance now? Has anything been noticed?"

"It's... it's me, San Ge. Until we started eating, I didn't notice anything!"

A young man eating at the table shuddered upon hearing this, quickly stood up, and reported.

"Nothing?"

San Ge frowned. It had been a day; even if she wasn't hungry, she must be thirsty by now. How could she not have shown up?

Could she really have been eaten by those zombies?

"Wait..."

His expression suddenly darkened as he turned to the young man, "If you're here, then who's in the surveillance room now?"

"Uh... it seems, there's no one there now."

The young man immediately sensed trouble and, too afraid to meet his gaze, said in a shrinking tone, "No one?"

San Ge grabbed an empty plate and hurled it backwards, smashing it against the young man's forehead. The plate shattered, causing a head wound that bled profusely.

"Then what the hell are you waiting for? You still have the face to eat here? I'm telling you, if that girl gets away, I'll chop you up and feed you to the zombies on the first floor!"

"Yes... yes, San Ge, I'm going now, right now..."

Despite the severe head injury, the young man didn't dare to resist. He quickly agreed and left the dining table for the surveillance room.

Watching this scene, the remaining dozen survivors quickly lowered their heads and quietly ate their food, not daring to make any sound to avoid trouble.

"And you guys!"

The burly man known as San Ge turned to look at the dozen people, "After you're done eating, go downstairs and move food. If anyone dares to slack off, don't blame me for being rude!"

"Yes... yes, San Ge!"

"We... we won't slack off."

The dozen people nodded repeatedly. Originally just ordinary people shopping at the supermarket, they had chosen to become villains and aligned themselves with these five thugs as soon as the apocalypse started and the social order collapsed.

Unfortunately, in this new world, no one would cherish their lives; they were merely cannon fodder.

But they had no other choice.

"Don't worry, San Ge, we'll keep an eye on them for you."

"Yeah, San Ge, leave it to us, there won't be any problems!"

Beside the dozen, six young men in security uniforms were busy smiling and flattering.

"Heh, counting on you? Just don't be lazy when the time comes!"

The chubby man known as Xi Ge, having finished a chicken leg, threw the bone at one of the security guards and chuckled darkly.

"Ouch, Xi Ge, we wouldn't dare!"

"Not daring is best!"

San Ge glanced at the six security guards, "Hurry up and eat, don't dawdle."

Immediately, the six security guards, as if granted amnesty, quickly bowed their heads and started scarfing down the food.

"As for you two..."

San Ge turned his head towards the corner, where two female college students in their twenties with average looks were sitting, "Today, you lost that girl, and you can't pay back the money you owe us. We can't just let this matter go!"

"Hurry up and eat, then go take a shower. Let us brothers have a good time relaxing tonight."

"Heh, San Ge is right."

"I'm not in the mood today, you guys go ahead. I'm tired of it, only that girl caught my interest, what a pity these two idiots messed it up!"

"Xi Ge, let it go, with the way things are now, why be so picky? Just make do with what we have!"

"...Then I'm going first today!"

"Hahaha, as you wish..."

Hearing the conversation and laughter of these five men, the faces of the two girls in the corner turned pale with fear, yet they dared not utter a single word.

Before the apocalypse, they owed these five men a significant amount of money and could never pay it back. Fearing retaliation, they ultimately had to use their bodies to settle the debt.

But this was far from satisfying for the men, as the girls were of average looks and their figures nothing extraordinary, not at all to their taste.

In an effort to settle their debt, they decisively betrayed the campus beauty from their dormitory!

And today, they had successfully lured the campus beauty out.

However, everything was going according to their plan, and they had even managed to drug the campus beauty's drink successfully.

But then the apocalypse erupted, and the campus beauty finally realized their intentions. In the ensuing chaos, she seized the opportunity to escape.

With the apocalypse unleashing flesh-eating zombies everywhere, she dared not flee far. Additionally, the effects of the drug began to take hold, causing dizziness and gradually blurring her consciousness, forcing her to hide in a cabinet in the furniture city on the second floor.

The prey that was almost in their grasp had flown away right before their eyes, and naturally, these five men wanted to take their anger out on them.
