Chapter 19 - Confrontation

"What am I supposed to do?" Malcolm asked. He was a supreme swordsman, he knew a few things about magic, but he wasn't an expert.

"I will touch your sister's head and heart, after that, I will create a temporary soul link, between my soul and hers. This will cause me to lose consciousness, and you need to guard me. After I'm done, I will wake up. Also, if she wakes up before me, you need to make her not shake my hands off." Malcolm nodded. Jax then placed one hand on Malcolm's sister's forehead and the other near hers left breast.' This will be unpleasant' he sighed and connected his soul to Malcolm's sister's soul.' Malcolm saw how Jax went limp and laid down his head, and most of his body was on his sister's body.

"I hope everything will go well." Malcolm said that and prayed.

....

"It's an interesting feeling to be inside someone soul" Jax said while wandering in empty space. To be precise, it wasn't completely empty space, but Jax created a barrier around him to push the soul contents aside, to not taint it. He looked at different memories of Malcolm's sister, whose name he saw in her memories.

"Maya? Nice name." He said and went deeper into her soul. He found a nickname of Malcolm 'little Mal'. Jax found it useful to irritate him. Some time later, he found the place where the death dragon will was. He saw that it was fighting with Maya's own dragon will. Dragon will is something that all dragons or their descendants have. Their ego and character are everything. It is the core of their being. It can't be accessed, by just wanting. The dragon will only work under certain conditions. Life and death is one of them. The Maya dragon will look like a typical dragon, with red scales, and fire coming from its mouth. Death dragon will, looked like a rotting corpse of dragon, it's scales were pitch black, and from its mouth came a dark mist. Jax saw that something was amiss with the death dragon will.

"It's corrupted? No, it's controlled." He saw that the core of the death dragon will had spells engraved into it. "So the dagger isn't as simple as just to inject death dragon will into the victim." Jax smiled and pointed his hand towards the death dragon will. Then he used his divine power to capture it.

"ROAR!" Death dragon will tried to resist, but it was soon captured and was in the palm of Jax's hand. He then spent some time deleting all spells from its core.

...

"So you are telling me you are an ancient dragoness called Hel?" Jax asked.

"Yeah, my physical body was destroyed, but my soul was fused with the dagger. Originally, I was supposed to be fused with some dragon, but someone changed the entire structure of the dagger." The Hel replied.

"So, what are you planning to do?" Jax asked. Hel knew that her existence depended on her answer.

"I can't do anything. If you free me, I will help that girl." She said.

"And you think I believe you?" Jax asked, amused.

"I don't. But I swear upon my true name, and in the name of the beast god, I Hel will not harm that girl." Jax saw that chains appeared on Hel's dragon will. 'So she is sincere' Jax was pleased.

"Sure, I will help you, but I want something in return." He wouldn't leave it be.

"I will not give you my heart." She said.

"I don't want your heart, just give me a portion of your power." He said. After that, Jax felt that death energy was feeling his soul.

"Okay, I have done it" She said.

"So, what am I supposed to do?" He asked.

"Well, just plunge a dagger into this girl's heart." Hel was brutally honest.

"Sure" Jax nodded. He then cut off his connection to Maya soul.

....

Malcolm was covering Jax and Maya in his aura.

"I hope it will go well." Malcolm said.

"It went well, but you will not like what I will say" Jax said. He was back in the normal world.

"What do you mean I will not like it?" Malcolm was nervous.

"You know, the dagger that made her into this state, right?" Jax asked

"Yes?" Malcolm was confused.

"Well, I need to plunge it into her heart"

"Just repeat what you said, because I think I didn't heard you correctly."

"I need to Plunge a Dagger Into Your Sister's Heart" Jax explained once more.

"You aren't serious?" Malcolm asked.

"I can swear on Herodot's name that it's something I need to do" Jax said without any discomfort, while being under Malcolm's aura.

"If she dies, I will skin you alive." Malcolm said it through his teeth.

"Yeah, yeah, I get it." Jax took the dagger and plunged it into the Maya's heart. The dagger started to glow, and after that, it melted and fused with Maya's body. Her body started to change. Her hair became even darker, and she gained white hair tips. Maya's skin became completely pale, and her nails turned black. After that, Maya woke up, and opened her eyes. Jax was able to see how they changed from golden to dark gold.

"Where am I?" Maya asked.

"It will be a long story." Malcolm said.

...

"So that dagger contained the soul of the death dragon, and you plunged it into my chest?!" Maya was mad at what Jax did. He, however, didn't care.

"You don't need to worry, death dragon made a promise to not harm you, and it was a promise made, by using the beast god name, and her true name. Also, I placed myself some seals, into that soul." Jax said. Maya calmed down after hearing this.

"Can you tell me what consequences it will have for me?" Maya asked. She was scared of what would happen. Will she turn into some beast?

"Well, you gain the power of death, although it's limited to your understanding. Necromancy is one road you can take. Also, your appearance can change over time, the closer you are to death, more changes will appear."

"So I can control death?" Maya asked excitedly

"Do you really think you, as a mortal, can wield death so easily? Are you a kid? I told you, you have the power of death, but having and using it, are miles apart." Jax mocked Maya's thoughts. Maya became mad. 'How dare he say something like that to me?'

"I will show you, I can control it!" Maya yelled, and stood up from her bed, and ran away from the room. Jax looked at Malcolm.

"Is that really your sister?" He asked. Malcolm wasn't sure himself.

"She doesn't like when someone is mocking her." He explained.

"Not my problem. She just doesn't understand that there are limitations on everything. The good thing is that the death dragon, will not allow its vessel to just destroy itself. She is safe, but she will probably be bedridden, if she tries to use that power too much." Jax shrugged. Maya being unreasonable wasn't his problem.

"I will try to keep her in check."

"Sure, btw, show me that dagger of life, you have." Jax said. Malcolm nodded. 'That dagger can be the same as the death dragon dagger' Malcolm thought.

...

"These are doors to the treasury" Malcolm said. They were in front of big doors, that were covered by countless formations.

'High-grade metals, very complicated arrays, and connected to the mana vein. It would take at least a week to safely open them.' Jax thought. Malcolm used his aura to open the mechanism. When Malcolm finished infusing his aura into them, they opened. Malcolm then gestured for Jax to follow him. A few minutes later, Jax was in an enormous room filled with riches.

"Gold, silver, enchanted weapons, legendary potions. Nice collection you have here." Jax praised the Dragon Kingdom treasury. "In the future, I can improve it." Jax had an idea of how to increase the defensive mechanisms of treasury.

"Sure, we will talk about it. The dagger is hidden." Malcolm went to the side of the treasury, and took a disk from his suit. It was made from gold. He inserted it into the wall. Then a secret passage appeared. Jax whistled.

"It's probably not the only hidden passage here?" Malcolm only smiled. He then gestured for Jax to wait. Jax started to look around. He found something interesting. It was a black, shiny rock. Jax used [Appraisal].

[Heavenly metal ore: It's a piece of heavenly metal ore. Heavenly metal is an extremely durable, and flexible metal. It has great compatibility with its wielder. It's metal from another world]

'So it's something that doesn't exist here, but why can I access that information? It isn't native to this world. The only way is that because my soul also isn't native, so it allows me to pass restrictions.' Jax wanted more pieces of that metal. 'Well, I don't think my fiancé will ask me why I need this.' He smiled at this thought. A few minutes later, Malcolm exited the hidden passage with the box in his hands. He then opened it, revealing a shiny white dagger, and handed it to Jax. Jax inspected it, and a few minutes later he knew the answer.

"It's the same thing as a death dragon dagger, but it could probably have a good effect on you. I don't know if that will work on someone without dragon blood, or if you can use it multiple times. To be honest, I don't recommend stabbing yourself with it."

"The soul inside doesn't need to work exactly as a stereotyped life dragon." Malcolm replied. To which Jax nodded.

"It's possible that this dragon wanted to just torture its victims by healing, or experimenting on them. And that its soul was transformed into this dagger as punishment. What do legends say about it?" Jax asked.

"My father told me that, our ancestor was hunted by assassins sent, by his enemies. He then hid inside caves, and found this dagger. It healed all his wounds, and it even increased his strength. It didn't work again, though. Everyone tried to activate it somehow, but no one succeeded. We blame it on the low level of dragon blood inside our veins, compared to our ancestor." Malcolm's explanation was rational in Jax's mind. 'It's possible that is the case, also the damage suffered by Malcolm ancestor needed to be big, maybe something like half of internal organs damaged or broken.'

"Well, so what do you want as a reward?" Malcolm wanted to keep his word. Jax threw at him heavenly metal ore. He caught it effortlessly.

"That rock? You probably discovered something that, no one knows." This time, it was Jax who smiled.

"It's my secret. I want all the stones you can get, and I want the opportunity in the future to test this dagger."

"Sure." Malcolm nodded, and they shook hands.
