Chapter 8 - The beginning of mysterious revelations ( IV )

"The threads of secrecy began to unravel, and the whispers of truth started to echo through the shadows."

Chapter # 08

It was late at night, the clinic had been closed now for not only patients but for the employees too. Only two guards were on duty, standing outside the clinic.

Dayylam came out of the clinic while talking to someone on the phone, holding a briefcase in his hand. That briefcase was just a casual briefcase just like the one he bought everyday.

"I'm just finishing up. You calm down and wait for me," He opened the car door and carefully placed a small briefcase on the dashboard. "I will take care of it. You don't need to worry. Now, I'm about to drive. Talk to you later." He disconnected the call and slipped his phone into his dress pants pocket.

Accelerating the engine, he drove off. Buildings behind him silently watched him going too far from them. He was on the same road that he always took to get home.

As he was driving fast, he encountered a roadblock ahead, manned by the police. They were checking every vehicle that was going from that road . He was too far from them, he swallowed nervously and turned back and took a shortcut.

The shortcut he took was too scary as there were no streetlights and the deadly silence.

His car's headlights were brightening the way in the night. Suddenly, a woman appeared in front of his car, causing him to slam on the brakes.

She stood with her hands on the hood, her blonde hair messily tied in a rough ponytail, a large bag hanging on her shoulder, and blood dripping from her forehead. 'Did his car hit her? But he had slammed on the brakes at the right time, right?' Dayylam was so shocked that his mind went numb for a few seconds. His eyes fell on her lips and he noticed her lips trembling, as if she was saying something. Maybe ' Help Me '.

"COME HERE! Where are you going?" another man yelled. Dayylam snapped back to reality and he saw her teary eyes shifted towards the man who was shouting. She trembled badly in fear.

Dayylam also looked at the man who approached her, holding a leather belt in his hand.

Dayylam's eyes quickly traveled in the direction of the woman and he observed the red and blue marks on her hands and legs. His mouth gaped in shock as he realized that he didn't misunderstand, she was actually saying 'Help me'

Without hesitation, Dayylam jerked open the car door, and at the same time, the man attacked the woman, grabbing her neck. "Aww, bitch! Did you really think you could get rid of me that easily?" he yelled.

Dayylam jumped in between them, grabbing the man's hand and forcefully pulling him back. The woman quickly sought refuge behind Dayylam, using him as a shield.

"What are you doing, man? How can you treat a woman this way? Are you a brute?" Dayylam spoke out in an attempt to protect the woman.

"And who the hell are you to lecture me? My grandfather? Or her new toy," the man retorted, attempting to throw the Dayylam aside. However, Dayylam stood firm. He did not budge an inch.

"Look, Mr. Oldie! Whatever you are, I'm being polite, so kindly step aside, please! Let me have a little conversation with my wife," the man said. Dayylam felt more pity for that woman after hearing that she is his wife.

Upon hearing the word 'wife,' Dayylam took a good look at the man and silently cursed him in his mind, thinking, 'What a jerk.' The man's eyes were surrounded by dark circles, carrying a dirty personality . Just one glance was enough to discern that he was a drug addict,a strong smell of alcohol coming from him. Dayylam wrinkled his nose for a second. The man appeared nothing short of a living mess.

"This is how you treat your wife? You're a despicable human being," Dayylam commented, expressing his anger.

"I said, don't lecture me," the man pushed the Dayylam and rushed towards the woman. However, Dayylam man once again positioned himself in front of the man, acting as a shield.

"Stop right here, or I will call the police. Did you see her condition? Look at how badly you've beaten her," Dayylam said sympathetically. The woman was truly in a terrible state, not just Dayylam; anyone who witnessed her condition would feel compassion towards her.

How could someone be so cruel? Dayylam himself held great respect for women. In his eyes, women were as delicate as rose petals and should be treated with love. Thus, he couldn't tolerate cruelty and violence against women. Today, a drunken-ass man was bent on killing a woman who was actually his wife before his very eyes. How could he stop himself?

"This is our matter, so don't poke your nose in it," the man struggled to push the Dayylam aside, so that he could reach the woman and teach her a lesson. However, his drunken state made it harder for him, and easier for Dayylam to hold him back. Meanwhile, the man was occasionally casting glances at the woman while attempting to push the old man away.

He glared at the woman, and a tiny smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, which Dayylam failed to notice.

"Why don't you leave me? Why are you making my life hell?" the woman finally spoke, sobbing loudly.

The man smirked once again as if he caught something that Dayylam didn't notice, yet the old man remained oblivious.

"Because you didn't pay me for my drugs and alcohol," he resumed his previous stance.

"You should have given me your entire monthly salary in my hand, but you didn't. And now, you're hiding behind this old man. Who is he to you? Are you fooling him just like you fooled me? Give me all your money right now!" he yelled at her, demanding money from her. What kind of a man he was, asking a woman to give him her hard-earned money.

"No, I won't. For God's sake, Haru, this money is for our son,he is sick " she pleaded in a broken voice. Dayylam felt deep sadness for her and growing hatred for the man. His son was sick and he wanted to enjoy along with his drugs and alcohol, what a jerk.

Boiling with anger, Dayylam couldn't hold back any longer. "I don't care. Just give me Mon….," Before he could complete his sentence, he felt a hard palm on his cheek. Dayylam slapped him.

The man's nostrils flared in anger, he raised his hand, intending to slap Dayylam back, but the woman successfully distracted him. "No, I won't," she firmly denied.

"You won't give it to me? Wait, let me come over there," he threatened and attempted to push Dayylam away. The woman turned and ran, putting distance between herself and the man. Seeing her fleeing, the man kicked Dayylam and chased after her.

Dayylam growled in pain, gathering his strength, he stood up. He also ran behind them but he stopped in his tracks as his car caught his attention. He had another important task at hand which was more important to do. He had already done what he could do for the woman. "That's all I can do for you, Woman. May God protect you." he sighed, sitting down in his car again.

That woman raced through the empty street of Saroi market. Her heart was pounding badly and her footsteps echoing ominously in the silence.

Haru was also behind her " Just stop right there You bi***h " He shouted angrily. She noticed a shop with its shutter unlocked in the dimly lit street. She pulled up the shutter and hid in the shop.

Haru spotted her hiding and silently entered the shop, taking careful steps. Entering the shop, he pulled down the shutter and put a lock on it . He then issued a stern command, "There's no escape. You're left with no choice. Come out by yourself!!"

She accepted his demand because she had no other options than to follow him.

She emerged from her hiding spot, moving slowly until she stood in front of him. Haru gazed at the bag she clutched tightly, then shifted his gaze to her face. "You steal his briefcase from his car?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.

A deadly silence tool an empty place between them for a few seconds.

Tears filled her eyes as she accepted the truth. "Yes," she admitted, her face wet with tears, as if she didn't want to do it but was forced to do.

A mischievous smile crept across Haru's face as he posed a cutting question. "Aren't you feeling ashamed?" he jeered, his voice tinged with amusement.
