" We weave tales like tapestries, deception is our thread "
Chapter # 14
Pushing the waste bin trolley, she came into the waiting area where she saw a police officer talking with Dayylam. The police officer was accompanied by four policemen. One of them was busy checking the clinic, another was conversing with patients and the staff one by one, and the fourth was checking everyone who was entering and leaving the clinic.
She gulped and continued to walk casually towards the exit while pushing the trolley, she kept her face normal because she didn't want anyone to suspect her.
"Kara!!" As she was about to slip from the exit, she heard her name being called out .
" Oh Fuck !!!! Will anybody let me go out peacefully!!!!" She turned around, cursing under her breath and saw the nurse Stella standing there, looking at her suspiciously. " Aggghhhh!!! Stella, you are such a pure pain in ass." She said to herself.
"What are you doing here with this trash ??" Stella asked, catching Dayylam and the senior officer Johnson' s attention towards them. " Damn it !! " Adeline froze, not sure what to say. She could feel the police officer's eyes on her.
"uh, what do we do with trash Stella, don't you know?? I was just going to dispose of this garbage, and why are you asking? Do you want to dispose of it by yourself or do you have any problem Stella? " She said calmly without stuttering.
Stella slightly got confused for a moment, typically Kara never gave her this bold response and even without stuttering. She got even more confused when the police officer and Dayylam moved their focus on her. Stella giggled "What problem could I possibly have? I was just asking a question. Oh, and I wanted to tell you that the police are checking the people who are going in or out from the clinic, so you should also get checked before going outside. Okay take care !!! " Stella spat out everything that came into her mind right now and vanished from there in a second.
The police officer was observing both of them and was listening to all their conversations, he gestured from his eyelids to the policeman standing at the exit door to check Adeline and the waste bin trolley, and the man quickly nodded.
Adeline could have easily walked out of the clinic without being checked because why would anyone check a regular clinic's waste, but this nurse ruined her entire plan. Now she will have to go out after being checked. 'Bitch' She cursed under her breath and turned to walk towards the exit.
She was near the exit when she was stopped by a policeman who was checking everyone. Adeline felt a knot forming in her stomach as the policeman stopped her. He looked at her and then at the waste bin trolley she was pushing.
" Good afternoon Miss, as you know we are checking everyone who is entering or leaving the hospital as per the officer's order. Sorry to bother you, but we have to check you and this trolley. You can't go out without being checked," he said with a big professional smile plastered on his face.
" Oh …..Yes, of course," she replied, trying to sound nonchalant. The policeman nodded and began to check her, going through her pockets and sleeves. Adeline had already set up the wireless microphone, mini voice-catcher in her bra and disconnected her earpiece from her phone so she didn't need to worry about it. After a few moments, he finished checking her and started to check the garbage bags on the trolley.
Adeline nervously watched him, then quickly spoke up. "This is just some clinic waste. Why are you checking it?sir " she asked, making her face clueless.
"Miss, it's an order please let us do our duty," he said firmly, he had a slight irritation in his voice which he was hiding in his layer of professionalism so that no one could detect.
But she was a clever grifter who faked different emotions to hide what she really felt . That's why She had a sharp eye for spotting people's fake facades and could tell how strong they were at it . It was a minor detail but grifter like her never overlooked such small but important details.
Adeline silently observed as he untied the garbage bags and peered into them. She had cleverly hidden the bag containing the money beneath the other garbage bags to make it less accessible. Still, she needed to divert his attention somehow.
"Sir, is there a theft? You're checking everyone. I mean I don't know what police are investigating about " she asked innocently, pretending to be confused and worried. The policeman glanced at her before untying the fourth garbage bag. "No," he replied while inspecting its contents.
"Then?" she probed further.
"We have received news that a brown mafia's operative is here for treatment or will be here. That's why we are investigating and checking everyone to arrest him if he's in disguise or carrying weapons," he explained, untying another bag.
"What?" she exclaimed, feigning shock and fear. The policeman looked at her and reassured, "There's nothing to fear. We are here to catch him. Don't panic." He forced a smile to calm her down and resumed untying another bag.
"Oh, I… No, I'm not scared, just a little surprised. What do I have to fear when the police are here? My grandmother used to say that policemen are very good because they help everyone. They are the heroes of the nation," she rambled on.
"My grandmother used to tell me that I should help people like the police. I thought about it, and then I decided that I would become a police officer when I grow up." The officer nearly rolled his eyes in exasperation. He had to check the garbage bags, and on top of that, this girl kept talking and testing his patience.
"But when I grew up, our circumstances changed. I couldn't become a police officer due to some reasons. I was very sad because it was my biggest dream but .Then my grandmother console me and said that I can be a doctor to serve humanity. I feel myself excited and again decided to pursue my career as a doctor to serve humanity." While she continued talking, he glanced at her irritatedly ' Who asked her tell her life stories ' he said to himself
"But, I couldn't become a doctor either because we were not that rich to pay fees. I became depressed again and lost all my hopes, but my grandmother came again and showed me the new hope and new way that I can be a nurse to serve humanity. I decided to be a nurse and stick with it. I faced many difficulties, but in the end, I became a nurse, and then I got married…"
Adeline continued her chatter, testing the officer's patience. If he hadn't been on duty, he would have silenced her long ago. He had already checked the front bags, finding nothing but garbage.
Before she could launch into her after-marriage life , he gestured for her to leave. "Okay, you can go now," he said calmly.
" Oh you have done the checking, I didn't realise how time ran fast while talking to you. You are such a nice person sir. Have a good day! '' Adeline breathed a sigh of relief and quickly walked out of the clinic, wearing a wicked smile on her face. She had successfully fooled the policeman and hidden the money without a hitch.
The policeman didn't bother checking the remaining bags, assuming they also contained garbage. He believed the girl to be foolish, thinking she couldn't possibly hide anything valuable among the trash. Little did he know that the girl he dismissed as foolish had successfully fooled him, turning his intelligence into a joke. How amusing!
Adeline turned into the side alley of the clinic while pushing the waste trolley. At the end of the side alley, there was a public trash bin. It marked the beginning of the back alley where their car was parked.
She pushed the waste bin trolley there and stopped near the trash can and glanced at their car. She then one by one threw the garbage bags into the trash bin . Only two bags remained on the trolley, one of the bag had a handkerchief tied around its top.
After checking her surroundings, Adeline picked up both bags, one in her right hand and second in her left hand. She threw the bag in the trash bin that was in her left hand and placed the bag next to the trash can that was in her right hand.
Edward, sitting in the car, silently observed her actions. As she walked away with the empty trolley, he started the car and stopped it right Infront of the trash can. He got out and grabbed the garbage bag that Adeline had tied the handkerchief around. He swiftly entered the car, clutching the bag containing the stolen money, and drove away.
