Chapter 11 - Chapter 10: Prelude to War

559 A.A. Amiran City, Arendin. 2 Weeks before Ascension Day.

Today was a monumental day a day that would go down in the history books. It wouldn't be for any heroic deeds or naive ideals such as good or bad. It would go down in history for the era of destruction it would usher it. For the lives it would take and for the dreams it would crush. Today marked a day where a few powerful people would decide the fates of millions. A day where judgment would be passed onto an over eight hundred year old nation reduced to mere pages on some dusty history book.

The large wooden doors on the far side of the expansive ornate chamber swung open admitting a large crowd of people in. Almost all the men and women wore the most ornate and expensive clothing found in this side of the world. Enough money went into their clothing, perfumes, and jewelry to make any commoner a lord in their own right if they had just a fraction. Almost all the most powerful people in the continent where present in the room and the ones that weren't would beg to be invited in such a prestigious gathering. Kings, queens, dukes, counts, merchants, mages, and even the leader of one of the largest mercenary bands in the known world. Of course any person of lesser status would probably hate the sheer arrogance and pride that seemed to make the air stale in the room. Almost immediately the bickering and fighting started. Any other person probably would have stepped in. Not me. Let them fight amongst themselves I say keep them to divided to do exactly what they were about to do to another nation.

Sensing the most opportune time I stand up at the head table they all sat and elegantly spread my hands. "Welcome to Amiran city my Lords and Ladies." Everyone's attention turned his way the infighting stopped immediately. "Before we start. A toast." He raised his glass of wine high his movements shadowed by all those present. "A toast to making history my friends a toast to winding the gears of change." He and everyone else took a large sip of the wine.

"My fellow conspirators in the coming days we will see the destruction of a nation we all have a grudge against. Whether a feud passed on from generation to generation or a recent slight that cannot be forgiven we all have a reason to pass judgment onto another nation. Some of you may only be here because you sense a quick gain others because you genuinely believe in your cause it matters not. Our plans are set, our armies raised, our nations stand ready. So tonight we feast not as friends of convenience but as true allies." The room was getting louder as the coterie got excited. Raising my hands once more I commit to the coup de grace of the speech "Tonight my friends. Tonight we feast. WE FEAST TO THE DESTRUCTION OF CARDONIA."
