Chapter 20 - Ch. 20: Where is She?

Moments later, the ice suddenly began to melt under my feet, emitting a warm vibration that crept slowly through my body.

I set Charlotte down, she stood upright, staring ahead.

Around us, the melting ice flowed gently, forming streams that flowed through small passages between the rocks.

The gurgling sound of the flowing water filled the air with a soothing harmony, as if nature's song was playing softly in my ears.

"What happened?" she said, turning to me.

Taking something out of my pocket, I handed her the note "I don't know if this is evidence or not."

"If it is, that would explain it," I continued.

Charlotte's hand took the note. Afterwards, she put it in her pocket. She didn't read it here.

"So, what happened? I need an answer, okay?"

I sighed. Then, I explained to her what happened.

Her reaction was surprising, sometimes she was shocked and said "Oh my God!" sometimes she was annoyed, saying " Shit!", although I found it strange, but it was quite entertaining.

"Let's check it again," she said.

"Why, isn't staying here the right thing to do? We don't know what happens when the altar is lit. It might cause a calamity."

I could tell that, although she seemed to be listening, her determination to go into the house had not changed, like a sturdy old tree rooted in solid ground.

"Alright I'll come with you." I gave up, Charlotte was too stubborn. Sighing, I stood by her side.

It was no problem for me to pull out my ace, after all Charlotte had already seen me wearing Vision...

At that moment, I felt the energy flowing within me like a writhing electric current.

The lightning aura emanating from my body felt like a flash of light.

Under the curved sky above, I stood upright with a body filled with abundant lightning light.

Charlotte turned to me, smiling. "So, I'm the princess, and you're my knight?"

"How is that? The two of us are like a couple inseparable by time and space, aren't we?"

Charlotte giggled. "I feel lucky to have you, who is willing to guard and protect me, my knight."

Suddenly, like a gust of night wind sneaking in, her cold aura appeared.

Like moonlight caressing the earth, her presence provided a refreshing chill, piercing my heart with an indescribable calm.

I looked forward, listening to Charlotte say:

"Come."

As the door opened, a sudden breeze rushed out of the house, piercing my bones and giving me goosebumps as if in a trance of fear.

In front of me, there was a standing figure, her body enveloped by a dark aura that darkened the view.

As if on the verge of a nightmare, she bent over slightly, giving a sinister feel to her existence.

Her body was like the girl who had been sacrificed earlier!

The girl's eyes, burning red like embers, stirred my sense of consciousness in the biting darkness.

Her body seemed to be wrapped in the dense darkness of the night.

A few seconds later, the door suddenly locked itself, a creaking sound piercing the silence, breaking the stillness.

The lights flickered a few times. But then, they turned off instantly. There was no more lighting.

Even the curtains moved, blocking out the light from the windows.

The atmosphere suddenly became horror!

My heart raced, feeling the vibrations that signalled an unseen threat around me.

In the enveloping darkness, I looked back cautiously, trying to find traces of a mysterious presence.

However, before I could gather my thoughts, the sound of hurried steps approaching made me turn my gaze forwards.

In an instant, the world spun and I was startled by the sudden attack of a dark hand that appeared with terrifying speed.

With sharp instincts, I sensed the approaching threat, organising my body to act at lightning speed.

My body responded swiftly, moving every muscle fibre in the darkness.

I dodged the threatening attack at just the right moment!

Indeed, raising Agility was the right choice!

Kicking her in the stomach, the girl dodged easily, retreating backwards. Her aura was getting stronger and stronger.

I felt adrenaline filling every fibre of my body, ready to unleash my Vision, lightning ability.

On the other side, Charlotte stood tall with a sharp gaze, ready to control her ice element with great skill.

We launched our attacks at once, creating a combination of attacks that complemented each other.

I unleashed a lightning bolt that quickly split the air, while Charlotte launched an ice attack that froze the surface of the floor.

Our combined attacks created a stunning effect, hitting the enemy with tremendous force.

However, the girl evaded our attacks with such amazing speed that instead of running away, she counterattacked.

She slipped her black hand into the floor. Then, the floor suddenly sent out dark thorns from top to bottom towards us!

The two of us immediately separated and fled in the cramped room.

Then, with the aura of lightning filling the room, I released a flash of lightning that split the air again.

The reason I didn't use the revolver was because I only had one or two bullets left. I haven't checked yet. However, I'm sure my answer is correct.

I didn't want to waste my bullets on killing a dead girl!

While I was talking to myself, Charlotte formed a piercing ice projection.

Our combined attack had successfully hit the girl!

However, she suddenly counterattacked again with stunning speed, dodging our attacks nimbly.

Thinking of using the room's decorations as both protection and weapons, I hid myself behind a fancy table, while Charlotte controlled the ice to create a protective shield.

I unleashed a lightning attack from behind the table, while Charlotte threw piercing icicles from behind her protective shield.

We attacked simultaneously again!

This time I believed that this attack stopped the girl's attack!

In an instant, the atmosphere of the room changed as fog suddenly appeared, tightly enveloping our surroundings.

A strange scent filled the air, making us gasp for breath.

As we tried to make sense of what was happening, we realised that our enemy, the girl, had disappeared without a trace.

Trying to figure out what happened, our eyes carefully scanned every corner of the room, but there was no sign of her.

The fog grew thicker, shrouding everything in dark mystery.

Then, we both looked at each other.
