Chapter 31 - Chapter 30: Ambition

It was jaw dropping revelation for Raziel. It shook him to his core. True, he was slave but he never thought there was more to it. He simply thought he would serve Vice-Admiral Rowland and at some point he would escape being a slave to find his sister.

He never thought someone as insignificant as him could cause any waves in the capital of Nicaorh. He still found it hard to believe. How can she expect him to be responsible for the deaths of people he knows nothing about?

The air around them was heating up as if it would combust. He was angry. She called him a weakling and it was not a lie.

If Vice-Admiral Rowland truly wants to use him as a stepping stone to power, there was nothing he could do about it. He had after all witnessed his powers.

He spoke slowly but with force, "You never told me why you saved me. You knew Vice-Admiral Rowland won't kill me because he wants to use me. You must have had a reason to keep me alive and also let my sister go."

Commander Carol wiped her mouth, "I knew Vice-Admiral Rowland won't kill you. I left you alive because I knew he would make you into his slave and bring you here."

Even though Raziel had an idea that she knew, he was still shocked.

She continued, "Vice-Admiral Rowland always needed a variable to upset the balance of Tenebren. If not you, then it would be someone else.

"I saved you and let your sister go so you would owe me. You may be Vice-Admiral Rowland's master piece but you owe me the favour of sparing your lives and I'll call that favour in someday."

Raziel was shocked by how calculative she was. She saved them so he would be in her control despite being Vice-Admiral Rowland's slave.

Raziel was dismayed, "You're no different from Vice-Admiral Rowland."

Commander Carol shook her head and stood up, "Wrong. We're totally different. Vice-Admiral Rowland wants power no matter the cost.

"I only want a stable country where everyone can live safely whether they are main pathway superhuman like you or lesser pathway superhuman like me.

"We don't have to kill each other. If we want to advance there are plenty of animals in the wild. Do you know that the animals are planning to build a kingdom? Even they are more united than we are.

"Do you know how lesser pathway superhumans are made? They put people like you in labs and extract your essence little by little until you disintegrate. You don't even leave behind a dead body.

"It's only in Nicaorh lesser pathway superhumans are made like this. The other countries have a better method of making lesser pathway superhumans.

"I want to stop the killing of people like you but it's impossible unless I'm the president of this country.

"The only way I can do it is by introducing a variable like you into Tenebren.

"Don't you want to return to your home with your sister? You won't have to worry about anybody hunting you down?"

Raziel was moved by her speech but he was scared of trusting someone as scheming as her. He looked up to her, "What of the people that would die because of my existence?"

Commander Carol walked across the table to his side and looked him in the eye, "I won't lie to you. People will die in the chaos that is coming. It won't change if another person was the variable.

"No matter who the variable is, they would still cause countless deaths. The only difference is that you stand to gain from it.

"If your goal is to get stronger, trust me, you'll obtain unimaginable power.

"If you just want to return to your hometown with your sister, you can make that happen by joining me."

Raziel closed his eyes. He thought about what it would be like living in his hometown with his sister without anyone coming after them. The thought put a smile on his face.

He opened his eyes and stared into her face as if to look for any signs of lying, "Why should I trust you?"

Commander Carol removed a locket from her necklace and opened it. She showed him the picture in it. It was a young boy that looked to be about three to five years of age.

She closed the locket and put it back on, "That's my nephew. His name was Clark. He picked up a slate of power. His parents didn't know, he used his abilities in public and the government took him.

"His parents killed themselves when they realised their son was dead.

"It's because of my relationship with Clark that the government won't let me be a Vice-Admiral.

"That's why they put me under Vice-Admiral Rowland so he can watch me."

Raziel was shocked by what he heard, "I'm sorry." He guessed she probably saved him because of her nephew.

He stood up to shake her hand, "I'm willing to join you if you promise to help me find my sister when all this is over."

She smiled and shool his hand, "Deal."

Raziel frowned suddenly and he looked worried, "What about the slave contract I signed with him?"

Commander Carol smiled, "There's nothing like a slave contract."

Raziel was shocked, "Impossible! I felt something when he put my blood on that scroll."

Commander Carol laughed, "It was a trick. Slave contract is impossible to make at our level. According to the government's sealed information, a slave contract can only be made by an Alpha. Only Alphas can touch the soul."

Raziel was appalled by the treachery of everyone he met lately. He asked in confusion, "How do the government know all these stuff that others don't know?"

Commander Carol chuckled, "Honestly, I don't know. Only the upper echelons of the government knows. I have no idea how they come into possession the knowledge they have.

"I'll give you my burner phone number in case we need to talk.

"I'll drive you to your new house in the night."
