Chapter 26 - The first encounter with a Spiefel

"Did someone ask for help!" A voice came from outside the battle.

Outside the magical veil sat the supervisors elegantly chewing on biscuits and drinking tea as they watched powerful mages go at each other.

"That young man is impressive, he'll make a fine addition to the first-class mages, his Mana reserves are enormous." The human supervisor commented upon seeing Tiagon turn his opponents into ashes.

"What the…"

The uniform black-clad mages spotted Tiagon and their eyes widened with surprise, they knew but they didn't want to accept it.

'If he's here then that means… that means Sariel and Myun were defeated or maybe even dead, it's not possible, his clothes are not even damaged. Did he use a mind spell... I must be careful.'

Cynical thoughts stormed into the mages' minds as they spotted Tiagon unaffected upon his encounter with their peers, they had singled him out since he had a sizable mana reserve and he looked scholarly but to defeat their partners? That was totally unforeseen.

"Protection magic!" One spoke and golden embers of light shone momentarily on his body, upon seeing his partner execute the magic spell, the other followed suit.

"Protection ma…" He didn't finish uttering the words when a vine burst out of the ground and beat his back sending in flying screaming.

The vine coiled back revealing a stain of blood on it.

"What?!" His partner slightly turned to catch a glimpse of what happened but then focused his vision on the Salamander demon in front of him.

It was over for their team, two were dead or probably incapacitated and the other was certainly not coming back up soon, it was all left to him.

The team drifted slowly towards him encircling the young scared mage.

"Curse this!" He screamed.

He placed his hand into his pocket and picked up a little bottle that held a sparkly blue powder. Before any of them could react, he swiftly broke the bottle overhead his face as he looked up and the powder turned into a whiff which he inhaled.

His pupils shrank and his eyes reddened, his muscles bulged and he an aggressive primal feeling emanated from him.

The cornered mage shot apart his hands and lifted his head screaming and releasing flames on his opponents.

It was no problem for them however, the Salamander was the first to close in and she delivered a fiery strong punch right to his gut abating the new energy in him and almost causing him to puke.

She followed with an upper blow, a few of his teeth broke off and then she simply grabbed his face releasing a flare of flame that ate apart his head.

Deep breaths and silence ensued.

"Let's go look for those Spiefel." Said Tiagon and the group continued their search forward.

After fifteen minutes of walking and not running into other mages, they spotted a large bird of colors white and yellow by a puddle, its head, its long neck and down to half its torso were colored white while the remaining half was yellow, it was elegant and noble.

It dug down its large curved beak and scooped some water. The team carefully watched it at a distance, the trees and some bushes hiding them.

"I will move with a sealing spell, Erin keep your vines ready, Aarin and Turan prepare to jump forward and prevent it from escaping if it somehow evades our magic and as the supervisor said, they have a knack for magic meaning they are most likely fast flyers so let's make good use of this opportunity."

The women nodded and after, Tiagon jumped out of the bushes, the sudden rustling of leaves caught the attention of the bird and it looked at where Tiagon came from.

It reacted swiftly, Its beak opened and a high-pitched sound was let out delivering a powerful torrent of wind magic at Tiagon. The spell was so fast and it came as a surprise to him, he was hit and sent back crashing on a tree.

Erin followed with her vines but the bird had been scared by Tiagon and it took for the air immediately going beyond the reach of the vines.

"There it goes." She said and sighed.

Tiagon got off the tree, he spotted the Spiefel flying at gale speed, he could surprise the bird by teleporting or using light magic but that would grow interest in the supervisors. He had to let it go.

"It will get easier."

'I didn't know they could attack with their mouths, I was expecting walls of wind sweeping at me not such a powerful blast.'

"Are you okay?" Aarin asked clutching her pretty wand.

"I am." Tiagon answered and beat his clothes clearing away debris and dust. Had his clothes not been enchanted to sustain a certain durability, they would have torn away to nothing.

"Let's continue walking, we will certainly come across another." Tiagon assured.

As they walked, a brilliant idea clicked in his mind, he was going to try it on the next Spiefel they see.

They walked further for about twenty minutes then they took breaks at the feet of the trees underneath their canopies.

Tiagon noticed Aarin's and Erin's burns, Aarin had applied some healing magic on both her and Erin as Erin had zero affinity for healing magic, Aarin herself was incapable of the more powerful spells.

"I happen to know a few healing spells that might help."

They invited him over to look at them.

"Wind Healing Magic: Soothing breeze."

A light green wisp materialized in front of Tiagon's face and he blew it on the burns.

The wisps danced about their burns giving them relief and healing them further.

"Thank you Clyde".

"Thank you"

A few minutes after the healing spell, the team went back on the search, they saw mages of other teams but these chose not to engage.

They walked about for an hour when they spotted one just standing by itself on a field of grass.

"This is it." Tiagon commented as he watched from a tree branch.
