Chapter 6 - whispers and coincidences

whispers and coincidences

--

Solanne tossed and turn on her bed, before deciding to get up and headed to the kitchen. Since she can't sleep might as well make some coffee and read some books.

Right as she walked down the stairs she heard a noise, curious as it was she saw the two cats running around the living room, and they were brimming with energy.

A smile touched her face. She was amused. Her gaze was following them as they hopped, turned and run on the living room.

'Is this what they called three am zoomies?' she mused and proceed into making a coffee.

From a distance, she can hear the noises of the cats were making. She was even a bit scared, afraid that they'll broke something.

Right as she waited the water to boil, she opened an app on her phone and decided to read again.

There was this novel she was patiently waiting to update everyday as she was hooked with the way the writer had woven everything. The world building was just different from all of the fantasy she has ever read, plus the power system was unique even the protagonist.

As she opened the app, she clicked the book, which has the title abbreviation was: 'LOTM'. She was currently in chapter 200. Klein was his favorite protagonist out of all the fantasy novels she has ever read. Someone had DM-ed her about this webnovel on one of her social media. She was thankful for that person.

As soon as the water boiled Solanne made her coffee and sat on the counter, scrolling through the pages of the book. She was hooked and she can't peal her eyes off her screen.

She has already forgotten her dream and what she felt earlier.

She loves this kind of distractions. That's why she often daydreams. Is there something wrong in her head?

Nah… it's just depression. Typical.

Solanne went from one chapter to another, not minding the time. And when she noticed the sun was up, she decided to went up the stairs, feeling exhausted.

She looked at the time: 5 am.

She decided to sleep again.

This time, she had a peaceful sleep and she didn't dream of anything.

--

Solanne woke up, it was already passed noon. She feels a little groggy and her hair was a mess. She didn't cry that much but her eyes were puffy. Addition to that she's hungry for real food. She doesn't want any noodles or something instant.

She wants something hot, and something that hits home.

Heaving her breath, she grabbed her phone and head down the stairs without minding her messy hair. Yael was there. He's with the cats outside, and it seemed like he had found a hammock in which he was using right now.

Ignoring him, Solanne headed towards the kitchen. She glanced at the food bowls of the cat. It seems like they have been fed. Seems like she wasn't the only one who likes cats.

Speaking of which, Solanne looked outside and she saw Yael, scrolling through his phone enjoying the fresh air breeze. She felt a little jealous. She wanted to try that hammock. Peeling her envious gaze, she looked at the fridge.

She scanned through numerous selections, and yet, she can't still decide on what to eat. In the end, she made herself some coffee.

'This is not healthy,' Solanne sipped through her coffee. 'I'm getting so dependent on Caffeine.' Still, the drink made her feel full.

After making some coffee, she sat down on the sofa, connect her phone to the smart television and play some music while she continued reading.

Yael didn't seem to mind.

It was a rather peaceful sight. You can hear the music blending with the wind, as the afternoon sun shines from above. The trees look peaceful and serene, and the cats were peacefully playing outside.

Their whole afternoon was spent, leisurely like this.

--

The moment dinner came, Solanne of course cooked a different dinner. Yael still refuses to acknowledged her presence so, she went ahead and made her some chicken stew. And right at the moment she finished, she set aside some for Yael and put a sticky note.

She was so scared for his health seeing that he was cooking noodles again. She understood his situation, though she assumed that since he was busy of work, he didn't have time to even learn how to cook simple dishes.

Although Solanne was pissed with him, she's not heartless. Has she been this understanding all along? 'how odd'

She was shock to learn new things about her.

Well, she doubts that he'll eat it. He has a massive pride after all.

Solanne's intention was to make things less awkward hence, she grabbed her food and headed towards her room and left Yael there. Not a moment long, she heard the noise coming from the TV.

She grabbed her phone and watch some series. The moment the food touched her mouth, Solanne almost danced.

Well, it was a habit of her.

She was immersed with what she was watching that she laid on her bed the moment she finished eating. By the time the series ended, it was already pass nine. The whole cabin was already quiet. Grabbing her dishes, she went down and saw the whole kitchen clean and tidy. The cats have been well fed and, and the big lights were turned off and the dim lights were lit.

She put her dishes down to the sink, and on the kitchen counter, she saw a small sticky note saying. 'Thanks.'

Solanne blinked. She looked around, as she swallowed. She can feel a sense of happiness surging to her heart she almost felt like crying.

Yael ate her food.

He ate the food she cooked.

Well… wow. What to say?

That is indeed an achievement.

Right after she finish washing the dishes. Solanne went out for a bit, feeling the cold fresh air of the night, and hearing the tiny crickets on the forest. Feeling satisfied, she looked up the sky. The moon was proudly hanging on the dark sky without any clouds.

Solanne blinked as she stared a little longer. Was it her just her imagination? Or the moon looks a bit bigger tonight compared to the previous night?

Pushing her thoughts aside, she grinned as she saw the hammock. Good thing that Yael didn't take this down.

Without any second thoughts, she hops right in.

'Ah… life…' Solanne grinned.

She stayed on that hammock for an hour before taking a shower and deciding to sleep.

Today was rather a day well spent.

Train…

Endless Train…

And a destination, unknown to her.

Solanne was sure this was a dream. Yet, how can she be thinking so clearly inside her own dream? How fascinating for her.

Solanne looked at the train. It was going in a fast speed that everything, especially their surroundings, was a blur. She heaved her breath and looked inside the train. The seats were empty. No one was here.

Yes, Solanne concluded. This was a dream after all. If not, why is the train moving without any signs of life?

She sat down for a while. She tried to looked outside but since everything they pass through was a blur, she was getting dizzy. After a few moments of contemplation, she decided to get up and explore the train.

It was not like she can get this type of dream often where she can think clearly like this and explore like this. Her curiosity was getting the best of her. She passed through every carriage thinking where is she heading.

She walked and walked. Looking at the same seats and same interior.

'How long will this continue?' she asked. Getting bored there was nothing in it. In the end, she decided to take a seat feeling like his feet was about to give up as she was so tired from walking.

Her eyes were drawn outside, trying to see through the blur, and as she noticed, and heard a footstep.

Her eyes widen in disbelief. Her heart feels like it was about to jump out of her chest. Something wasn't right.

Is this really just a dream? Solanne can't control her feelings.

The sound of the footsteps was getting closer and closer.

There's a person inside this train? How come? Why now? She had already explored every inch and she cannot find anyone.

Trying to overcome her fear, Solanne peaked, wondering who was the person. Perhaps it was someone she knew because this was her dream.

She swallowed, eyes full of curiosity at the same time she was afraid.

There she saw a man wearing a black uniform holding a golden pocket watch. For a moment, looking at him, Solanne felt like she was in a Victorian era movie.

She frowned. "A conductor?" She mumbled through herself and that was a wrong move.

The conductor of the train looked right through her. His eyes bloodshot and his lips were curled up in a very abnormal way that his smile almost pass through her eyes.

Solanne eyes widen in disbelief she cannot even consider it as a smile.

Nightmare.

She must be having a nightmare.

"We have a passenger? How odd. How exciting. It's been a while" It was the conductor. He sounded very happy that his footsteps grow bigger and bigger.

Solanne felt the chills down to her bones. She wanted to wake up anything would be fine; she just wants to wake up.

"You!"

A noise?

How suddenly?

Solanne looked up. Eyes wide as saucers.

How could this be?

She asked feeling relief wash over her. Her panicking gaze soften, she was about to cry. "How could I be dreaming of you, in times like this? now?"

It was absurd. He was standing there, in his casual pajamas wearing a black tshirt and a black lose pants. He was frowning. How typical yet, how comforting.

"Yael."

She looked at him. He had the same expression yet, he doesn't look scare at all. He was just confused.

Solanne smiled.

Ah. What a relief, she whispered through her lips.

Solanne opened her eyes. This time, she was greeted with the same ceiling. She can feel the night breeze brushing her skin. She looked at her right. Her window was open. Perhaps that was why she had a nightmare.

How could this be?

Yael. She was thankful of him even if it was a dream.

--

Yael glanced at the clock beside him. It was three in the morning. He stared at his phone.

A dream. He thought.

But it was vivid.

Her.

Her smile.

Her soft whispers of relief. Was it even normal to feel his heart skipped a beat? And why are they in a the same dream.

Yael looked outside the window. The moonlight gaze was so serene.

How odd he frowned. Everything was.
