Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Anze, Part Six - Yaya

"Crunch, crunch..."

The sound of chewing echoed in the pitch-black room.

It was so dark inside, and there was no sound.

As the bald man with a compound bow approached the door with two others behind him, their initial bravado gave way to a creeping sense of fear.

Taking several deep breaths, he suddenly lunged toward the doorway.

Pointing his bow inside, he shouted, "Don't move!"

But there was nothing.

The room remained pitch-black.

The sound that had emanated from the darkness ceased abruptly.

In the faint light from the staircase, they could only see blood pooling on the floor, flowing from the darkness ahead.

"Chubby, turn on the light!"

The bald man aimed his bow cautiously into the darkness.

He was on high alert.

Chubby fumbled for the light switch beside him.

"Ding!"

But it was useless.

Not only that, but as soon as Chubby pressed it, the whole house plunged into complete darkness.

Someone had turned off the power to the entire building just now.

"What... what's going on?"

The skinny guy panicked, his voice trembling.

"Don't yell!"

The bald man frowned, but in the blink of an eye,

"Bang!!!"

Something resembling a thick stick swung directly towards his head from the side.

With a whooshing sound in his ears, he was knocked unconscious with a single blow.

"Thud!"

The bald man collapsed, unconscious.

The skinny guy and Chubby were petrified.

Moments later...

"Whoosh!!!"

Something lunged out of the darkness, attacking Chubby and biting his neck.

"Ahhh!!!"

Chubby screamed in agony, then fell silent in the blink of an eye.

"Help, help me, don't kill me..."

The skinny guy's spirit collapsed, his face drained of color in the darkness.

He turned and ran towards the staircase he remembered.

"Oh, screw it!!!"

But halfway up, he was kicked down from the second floor by Anze, who had rushed up.

After hearing some crashing sounds from below, there was silence.

---

"Yaya!"

Anze called out his daughter's name in anguish.

At the same time, he hesitated whether to turn on the staircase light.

He had just managed to cut the ropes with the knife hidden in the bald man's jacket.

Then, he rushed up the stairs and immediately turned off the power at the corner.

---

"Yaya?"

Anze called again.

Then, from Yaya's room, came the familiar sound of chewing.

"Phew..."

Anze breathed a sigh of relief.

In this strangely quiet and dark night, the sound of his daughter eating was like music.

He flipped the staircase light switch back on.

With the room illuminated again,

Anze tightly gripped the knife and headed straight for his daughter's room.

His heart raced as he wanted to know his daughter's condition.

To see if she had been shot by the compound bow or injured in any way.

"Clack, clack, clack!"

Hesitating as he approached the door, but the next moment,

"Hi!"

"Oh my goodness!!!"

A figure suddenly emerged from the room, startling him.

In his surprise, the knife fell to the ground with a clatter.

This left Baiyin speechless.

"Are you that scared?"

Baiyin held a baseball bat in his hand, found in the basement.

Seeing it was him, Anze breathed a sigh of relief.

"Fear can kill, man!"

Baiyin remarked, having guessed something about the situation inside.

Anze patted his chest and hurried into the room.

By now, the lights in the room had been turned on.

At the doorway, Anze immediately recognized his daughter, Yaya, feasting on the bald man's corpse.

She was a little girl, now a zombie, wearing a white dress stained red with blood.

Her right foot was shackled with an iron chain, the other end of which was connected to the bedpost in the corner.

The chain was just long enough for Yaya to reach the doorway.

It seemed whoever put the chain on her only wanted her to stay in this room.

In the corner beside the bed, there was a woman's corpse, already gnawed beyond recognition.

On the floor, there were two more corpses, those of Chubby and the bald man.

Chubby's throat was missing a large chunk of flesh, dead beyond recognition.

As for the bald man?

He had his throat bitten off after passing out, and Yaya was now eating the flesh from his body.

Yaya was a zombie.

But her hair was surprisingly soft, indicating someone had been grooming her regularly.

Her eyes had no distinction between iris and sclera.

They were entirely black.

Compared to other zombies, who were emaciated or decaying,

Yaya's skin was a pure dark gray.

Despite the unusual color, there was no stench of decay emanating from her.

In fact, she gave the impression of being naturally this color, like a healthy person.

She was a young girl with long hair reaching her waist.

Setting aside the blood and gore, she was quite a pretty little girl.

"As long as you're okay, everything's fine... Daddy loves you, Yaya..."

Relieved that his daughter was unharmed, Anze let out a sigh.

He crouched down and gently stroked her soft hair.

"Ugh..."

Yaya bit off a large chunk of flesh from the bald man's arm, then took it out of her mouth and offered it to Anze.

Anze just smiled faintly, waved his hand, indicating he didn't want it.

Yaya reluctantly put it back in her mouth and continued to eat with relish.

"She really won't bite you."

Baiyin's voice suddenly came from behind, accompanied by the sound of him dropping the baseball bat.

"You don't seem surprised at all."

Anze smiled bitterly, and Baiyin said matter-of-factly,

"After hearing weird noises from upstairs every night, I guessed something. Was she eating all the missing pork from the fridge?"

"I guess I overestimated the soundproofing of the house.

Yeah, zombies only eat meat..."

As he spoke, Anze suddenly seemed to remember something and froze:

"Wait a minute, you came out of my daughter's room?"

"Yeah."

"How did you...?"

"I climbed in from outside through the window. Can't protect your daughter hiding in the basement, can you?"

"I know, but why didn't Yaya bite you?"

"Well, about that..."

Baiyin shrugged:

"Um...

You might not believe it, but zombies aren't interested in me, so they won't attack me!"

With that, she walked into the room, crouched down, and extended her hand towards Yaya.

"See, she won't bite... Oh, damn it!"

But unexpectedly, Yaya lunged forward and tried to bite her. Luckily, Baiyin quickly withdrew her hand, avoiding being bitten.

Yaya glared at Baiyin with hostility, making growling sounds in her mouth. When Baiyin stopped moving, she continued to lower her head and eat her food.

"See, see... She won't bite me at all. She was just protecting her food earlier, not hostile towards me."

Beads of sweat formed on Baiyin's forehead.

He laughter was forced and awkward.

Anze just chuckled lightly,then said,

"Do you want to have a late-night snack? Interested in having a drink with me?"
