Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Anze, Part Eight - Father

"Yaya is different from other zombies, I can feel it. I can't really describe the feeling, but I always feel like she still remembers me. And!

Other zombies either turn into those dried-up corpses, living for a long time, or they just rot away and die after a while. But Yaya is different. Initially, her body was indeed decaying. But after I fed her a lot of raw meat, this situation has slowed down."

"Did you feed her anything else before?"

"Of course, but she wouldn't eat it. Whether it was cooked food or vegetables, she wouldn't touch it. Only raw meat. She only eats raw meat, and she eats a lot of it."

"Doesn't she... you know..."

"Cough cough!"

Anze glanced at Baiyin with some annoyance.

"I don't mind the dirtiness, but you don't need to ask so specifically."

"Okay, sorry..."

Baiyin picked up a piece of chicken but remembered something unpleasant and had to put it down again. Until the fantasy disappeared from his mind completely, he could only drink his beverage silently.

---

"In short, Yaya's body stopped decaying after eating raw meat. She no longer emits a foul smell and is clearly recovering. During that time, I caught a few zombies and fed them raw meat as well. But unfortunately, they didn't change at all. At that moment, I felt like fate had smiled upon me, grateful that Yaya turned into a zombie, becoming the chosen one."

"Even as a zombie... But you still haven't said why she doesn't bite you."

"I think... it might be because her memories are starting to come back. Initially, she did attack me fiercely, shouting and screaming. But as I continued to feed her and talk to her every day, as the days went by, about half a year later, she spoke. Guess what she said?"

"Daddy?"

"Yes, I heard it clearly. She was calling me, and it wasn't a mistake on my part. Do you know how happy I was? A grown man cried for half a day."

As he spoke, Anze's eyes lit up, as if the scene from that day was still vivid in his mind. He drank half the can of beer in one go, then smiled with contentment.

"From that day on, she no longer had any desire to attack me. Although it's rare, she still calls me 'Dad' from time to time. Not only that, under my guidance, she learned to use the toilet, tidy up the room, and fold blankets again. Of course, I didn't dare let her out of the room for fear of something happening to her. So I made a simple toilet for her. I removed the iron chains from her body one by one until only one remained. I think that after a few more days, when she's recovered a bit more, I'll remove the last one. Let her see the outside world!"

"Do you think she can turn back?"

Anze shook his head, somewhat resigned, but still with a smile on his face.

"I'm not naive enough to hope that she'll turn back into a human. But for her, who can live as a zombie, I'm already satisfied. Moreover, she still calls me Dad and her thoughts are gradually returning. I don't expect her intelligence to reach the level of a normal person. As long as she can communicate with me normally, let me know what she's thinking, and what I can do to help her, I'm already satisfied."

"I wish your dreams come true!"

Baiyin raised his glass, and Anze clinked it.

"Thanks for your good wishes!"

He finished the rest of his drink and opened another can.

"My situation is more or less like this. Now, it's your turn. Why aren't you attacked by zombies?"

"I can't say about that. But as long as you don't ask too much, I can make it so you won't be attacked by zombies like me."

"Really?"

Anze seemed somewhat skeptical, with a look that said, 'You're pulling my leg.'

Baiyin, however, remained calm.

"In a couple of days, I'll have a way to make you like me, not being attacked by zombies. Of course, it's only to avoid being actively attacked by zombies, not immunity to zombie infection. I hope you understand the difference."

"Deal! If you can really do it, I'll call you big brother!"

"Deal!"

---

The next day, which was the fifteenth day, as the system said, half a month had passed. Today's main task was not anything else but to clean up Yaya's room.

As Anze said, it was summer now, although it was quite cold in the second half of the night. But leaving the corpse meat out for a whole night wasn't good; Yaya might get diarrhea after eating it. So it had to be dealt with during the day.

Thus, the two spent the whole day moving the corpse and cleaning Yaya's room. The process was messy and disgusting. From the moment they entered the house, Baiyin smelled a pungent, strange odor. But Anze was already accustomed to it and showed no sign of discomfort. He just started cleaning up as if it were routine.

---

"Oh, by the way, you should cover the windows when you have time. Or maybe you could renovate and live underground. It would save you the trouble of attracting some unscrupulous folks with the lights on next time!"

"I know, I've been considering this issue. In a few days, I'll clean up the basement."

The two chatted while cleaning up.

---

"Rip..."

There were footprints on the windowsill from last night. Baiyin wanted to clean them, but as soon as he pulled open the curtain, the Yaya under the covers emitted warning sounds of "Awoo awoo." She buried herself in the blankets, leaving only her head visible. It seemed like she disliked the sunlight shining through the window.

"Pull the curtains closed. Yaya doesn't like the sun," Anze reminded, and Baiyin had to comply. At the same time, he said, "I'd believe you if you told me your daughter was a vampire."

Baiyin tidied up the table and eventually found a crayon drawing on it. He hadn't seen it last night; it must have been drawn this morning. The drawing was crude, but he could make out what it depicted. At the top were a little girl and a man wearing glasses, holding hands with happy expressions. Beside them was a bed, with a plate next to it containing three figures: a woman, a bald man, and a fat man. They all had wavy lines above their heads, indicating they were emitting fragrant food smells.

---

Baiyin also found himself in the drawing. He was a door, and a faceless man stood quietly next to it. On the man's face was a large question mark, giving him a mysterious appearance.

---

Baiyin stared at the drawing for a long time. When he turned to look at Yaya, he found her staring at him intently. He wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but besides wariness, there seemed to be some anticipation in Yaya's eyes. Baiyin smiled slightly and said,

 "It's a nice drawing!"

Upon hearing this, Yaya just turned her head away silently, burying herself further in the blankets until only her head was visible. It wasn't clear what she was thinking.

Seeing this scene, Anze couldn't help but chuckle softly and said, "She's shy!"
