Caesar wanted her—he needed her as if she were the air he breathed. It felt suffocating without her, and he feared her leaving him more than her hurting him.
It was only her, and he would never be able to find someone else like her.
Caesar was someone who'd subconsciously developed the fear of being abandoned, and this he only knew after he met Adeline. He wanted her to love him, to be with him forever, and to never leave him.
She was the first to ever love him, and for a man like him, that was something he never thought possible. And he'd never want that to vanish into thin air.
"I didn't mean to leave you before, it was a mistake, and it will never happen again. I'm not going to leave you, I promise." Adeline shifted closer, reaching out her hand to kiss and caress his cheek. "I love you, and I will give you more than you need." She laughed softly, going up on her knees to pull him into a warm, loving hug.
"I love you, Caesar. I love you."
