Adeline breathed heavily, sniffling and swallowing hard to calm herself down. She was about to shut her eyes and try sleeping, but the sudden feel of warm, large arms wrapping around her and spooning her startled her, causing her to immediately turn.
Caesar lay next to her, a worried expression painting his face. "Tell me what the problem is. I'll solve it for you."
She chuckled at his words, her palm cupping his cheek. "I wish it was something you could solve. You'd be able to take my pain away," she mumbled, shifting closer and merging her body with his to drown in his warmth.
Caesar's fingers brushed through her hair, caressing gently. "You've been crying? Why? Tell me the truth."
She was quiet, just shakily breathing a bit loudly. "I don't know where to begin, Caesar." She buried her face in the crook of his neck, seeking his comfort.
The man held her like a child, caressing her hair and leaving kisses on her head.
