I watched as Shayla slipped quietly to the side, moving just out of the camera's view, but her presence remained a calming anchor in the room. I took a deep breath and answered the video call, the shareholders' faces filling the screen, each one of them wearing expressions that ranged from frustrated to outright angry.
"Chris," one of them began, his tone sharp, "we need to discuss the recent developments, specifically your decision to...."
I immediately assumed they were talking about the situation with Shayla and Caroline.
"I understand you're concerned about the situation with Shayla—"
"This isn't about that," another shareholder interrupted, his voice edged with irritation. "This is about you revealing your identity publicly. It's made the stocks unstable." I paused, surprised.
