Chris
As Shayla finished her conversation with Elysia, I waited outside, leaning against the wall while flipping through emails on my phone. When the door opened, I saw Shayla step out, her face softer than when she had gone in. She gave me a smile, looping her arm through mine.
"It went well," she said, her voice light. "She's good at what she does. I think she really gets us."
"Told you she'd be great," I replied, giving her hand a squeeze.
Elysia appeared at the door, looking at me with the same calm but focused expression. "Chris, would you mind coming in? I'd like to speak with you now."
I nodded and gave Shayla a reassuring glance before heading into the office. Elysia closed the door behind me, and I settled into the chair across from her, feeling the same sense of professionalism that had been in the air since the first time we'd met.
